Racing a Typhoon to Japanâs Edge | Nagasaki Motorcycle Adventure Ep. 21
So, I got to get out of here. Can’tÂ
stick around too long. Just out there, that’s the edge of the storm that’s coming in. Well, it’s 5:00 a.m. The weather’sÂ
not looking amazing. Alright,  we’re going to head out to Hirado. I have been wanting to go to this zone for the longest time. So, I’m really excitedÂ
about actually finally getting out there. But I feel like I may be going in the wrongÂ
direction. I don’t know. I just have this feeling. It’s so easy to get turned around in this part ofÂ
Japan cuz it’s just all little peninsulas and uh and islands and things. So, one thing you willÂ
notice if you visit Kyushu, especially if you get to areas around Nagasaki and port towns, you’llÂ
see a lot of churches. A lot of Christianity references and stuff. So, we’re going to swingÂ
past the church on the way up. Wow, so pretty! Good morning. Wow. Beautiful Japan. Beautiful. This zone is so beautiful. Look at this road, man! Tell me you don’t wantÂ
to be riding this right now. Christianity has deep tiesÂ
in Nagasaki. Beginning in 1549, with the arrival of the Jesuit Francis Xavier in the 17th century, there was a nationwideÂ
ban on Christianity that lasted over 250 years. The Tabira Catholic Church was built in 1918Â
under the leadership of Father Toukichi Nakata. The church is fully functioning and mass andÂ
other religious events are held on a daily basis. Well, that was pretty cool. I’m super stoked. ThatÂ
lady was so nice. There’s signs everywhere saying,  you’re not allowed to film. And then she was just like, after we talk for a little bit, she’s like, “Ah, no, you’re right.”Â
Um, couldn’t take any footage inside, though. We’re about to go across aÂ
big red bridge. This is the Hirado Bridge. I saw this really cool photo of Hirado, this road in Hirado. And I absolutely have no idea where that photo was taken. But since I saw that photo,Â
I’ve been wanting to come out and ride out here. It’s been on my radar for at least a year now,Â
and now we’re finally about to do it. So, this is a cool moment. Alright, I’m going to standÂ
up for this. Oh yeah, baby. Heading into Hirado. What a spot! I dig it. I dig it. Yoooo. Yeah, baby! I’m a happy man. Very happy. Woohoo. Oh, man. All right. So, my mission plan today is to check out Hirado. This place I’ve been wanting to see forever. Ride the [ __ ] out of the place. and uhÂ
find some Nagasaki Chanpon to eat for lunch. Oh, look at this road, man. Stays with no trafficÂ
like this. This could be a little piece of heaven. Yeah, baby. Oh, this place is just beautiful. Rider’s Nirvana, buddy. Rider’s Nirvana, baby. Oh, we’re coming up on the oceanÂ
view. Oh my god, look at that. Are you kidding me? What a place! Maybe just here? The Kasaga Tanada rice terraces, have been selected as an important cultural landscape for Japan. It is one representative of agricultural and fishing villages that have been passedÂ
down from generation to generation. The view of the terraced rice fields that extend fromÂ
the sea to the mountains is a masterpiece. The wind was kicking up kind of strong, soÂ
I checked the weather forecast and noticed that there was a fast moving typhoon on its way. Set to clip the bottom of this peninsula. One  of my goals was to get down to the south whereÂ
I could find the most westerly motorable road in Japan. I’d been to the most westerly point ofÂ
mainland Japan yesterday. It just made sense to make it to this point as well. I needed to get moving if I was going to beat that typhoon. Yeah, she’s she’s blowing pretty good up here. I can feel the peak on that helmet.Â
Uh just reminding me that nothing’s perfect. Although that view is kind of perfect. You got rice fields, you got mountains. Perfect road. It’s crazy to think that justÂ
in a couple hours there’s probably going to be a little mini typhoon bustingÂ
through here. Okay, this is the road. Okay, so it’s turning into another littleÂ
adventure. At least it’s dry this time. Yeah. Okay. This is fun when you’re carryingÂ
a shitload of gear. I’ll tell you what. If I took a tumble off one of these cliffs, I could be here for a while. You know,Â
no one knows I’m up exactly. I’m up here. So, I’m riding down a crazy trail that I wasn’t expecting to do. With a small typhoon approaching. By myself… in Nagasaki, Japan. I never would have picked that this was going to be how I would spent part of today. All right. What a place to be. Hey guys. So, I got to get out of here. I can’tÂ
stick around too long. Just out there, that’s the edge of the storm that’s coming in. It’s like aÂ
little typhoon. Feel it. It’s cool air starting to come through real fast now. So, I probablyÂ
only got like an hour or so before this place turns into gale force winds and a hell of a lot of rain. So, time to roll. All right, so I just found a place, a restaurant, a Champon Restaurant. It looks like it’s the only one around. It looks like it’s really good, but… it’s closing at 2:00 p.m. and it takes about an hour to get there. I got to get out of here before that storm comes in. And if I want to eat someÂ
Chanpon, I’ve got one shot. All right. Chanpon hunt is on! I’m kind of hungry. When I say kind of, I mean really, really hungry Apparently, it’s just here somewhere. I have arrived currently. I don’t see it. I’m going to get that Wow, what a cool place! I’m super stoked that they let me come in cuz, I am starving. This is unbelievably good! With that weatherÂ
moving And uh it looks like we might… I might be making a run to get out of this partÂ
of Nagasaki and head over into Saga Prefecture, which is going to be our next video. Hint , hint. So if you’ve enjoyed the series, thanks for watching. I’m going to be releasing a much longer extendedÂ
version of the Nagasaki trip next week on Friday. So you can check that out. Thank you for watchingÂ

I like your helmet. Seems to have a great field of view. What brand and model is it?
Iâd love to hear from you â what was your favorite part of the Nagasaki trip?
Another great video. Love the scenery and the rice terrace are stunning hope you didnât get wet. Looking forward to next Friday
Japanese hospitality is amazing, the restaurant and the food at the end made me seriously hungry! I'm keen for the long version of this trip. Don't be afraid to really crank the length đ
Awesome story as always, pleasure to watch, thank you
Gotta say I do appreciate the shorter intro. Some beautiful views to start off the video too. That church is gorgeous and I love the drone shot with the big bridge in the background. Mountain trail certainly looks like an adventure.
Oh man another epic video Adam, the algorithm really needs to push these out, in time I am sure these videos will be huge.I will watch the full edit again when you release it.
I really liked your Honda more. Made in Japan -ride Japan. A pity its only 20bhp. Triumph India can never be Honda Japan!
Hi Adam , Great video camera work. I love your motorcycle. You know I have the same bike. Take your advice put the 15th to enjoy it out. Youâre right, keep the shiny side up. Rubber side down âď¸
Loved this prefecture! Can't wait till the long version!
Thanks for the great video again. BTW, to those who are interested in Nagasaki, I recommend to see a great film called "Silence" directed by Martin Scorsese, staring Andrew Garfileld, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson, etc. It is based on the 1966 novel of the same name by ShĹŤsaku EndĹ.
That was awesome. The views were epic once again.
Man, that place where you stopped to eat looks just a-ma-zing! Incredible! And those roads! For goodness sake! And did you know (I reckon you probably know that already…) that most of the first jesuits in Japan came from Portugal? Crazy guys!
