Tucked into the beauty of Motobu’s landscape, down a narrow road, many flock for a taste of delicious pizza with a view at Pizza Café Kajinhou.
The café is housed inside a traditional Okinawan house and offers terrace seating for a meal with a view. Many reviews recommend Pizza Café Kajinhou as a must-try for anyone visiting northern Okinawa.
We arrived near opening time on a weekday, but five other groups were already waiting, indicating to us its popularity. Fortunately, we only waited 10 minutes to be seated on the terrace.
Pizza Café Kajinhou’s pizza menu is simple: only one type of pizza in small or medium, a salad and a variety of drinks. According to the restaurant site, their pizza dough is made using Okuni-rindo spring water from Northern Okinawa and the pie is topped with cheese, salami, onions, corn and sliced peppers.
While we waited for our special pizza, we stepped into the garden to enjoy a wide view of surrounding Motobu’s land, sea and the sky above. It was a cloudy day, but I’m sure if you visit on a sunny day, the landscape will be even better than it was during my visit.
We cooled off with some iced sanpin tea and our pizza finally arrived. It was a simple, homestyle pizza with a fluffy dough and cheese melted to perfection. I picked up a piping hot slice and dug in, it was absolutely delicious. Each topping added a wonderful accent.
As we savored in the deliciousness, a chilled mango dessert arrived. The bite-sized pieces of mango slightly melted, having just been taken out of the freezer. I couldn’t help but exclaim, “It’s cold!” at first bite. It was a fantastic moment to enjoy freshly baked pizza and the sweet, cold mango at the same time.
We ordered a small size, so two adults finished it in no time. It’s perfect as a snack, but a little less than lunch, so I recommend ordering a medium size. If you can’t finish it, you can take the rest home. The mango portion, however, seemed quite large. Be careful not to get upset stomach from eating too much.
This café is located on a small hill in Motobu Town. There is parking for about 10 cars and most people arrive by car. The road is a little complicated and narrow in some points. Please check the website for detailed directions.
After experiencing the simple-yet-delicious pizza at Kajinhou paired with the stunning surroundings of Motobu, it is easy to see why this place is popular.
