Chey Tae-won, chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), visited the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo to strengthen solidarity with Japan’s business community and reaffirm cooperation.
The KCCI said Monday it dispatched a delegation led by Chey to the expo in Osaka. The visit came in response to a request made by Japanese business leaders during the 13th Korea-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Leadership meeting held in Osaka in November 2024.
The cooperative atmosphere between the two countries’ business circles is expected to continue through the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in Gyeongju in October and the 14th Korea-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Leadership meeting in Jeju in December.
The KCCI plans to build on common issues discussed at APEC to further improve exchanges and cooperation between Korean and Japanese companies in Jeju.
Trade between South Korea and Japan has grown from $200 million in 1965 to $77.2 billion last year.
However, their share of mutual trade has steadily declined, prompting calls for new momentum in bilateral cooperation.
