Orix suffered a come-from-behind defeat, marking their seventh straight loss to the league-leading Softbank for the second year in a row. Yamaoka, pitching as the fourth pitcher in the sixth inning with a three-run lead, proved a miscalculation. The right-handed reliever, who had been stable with six consecutive runs games up until this point, was bombarded with five hit and gave up four runs. He was forced to leave the game with only one out.

In the third inning, with neither team scoring, the batting line-up took the lead with three runs thanks to timely hits from Hirooka, Nakagawa, and Nishikawa.
