Since the dawn of civilizations that flourished on the land of Bahrain, the sea has been the Kingdom’s lifeline and gateway to the world. It served as a vital link shaping Bahrain’s economic and cultural ties while leaving a lasting imprint on its local identity. Among the most profound cultural expressions born of this relationship with the sea is music, which became an integral part of the national heritage and collective memory of the Bahraini people.

Today, Bahrain carries this rich musical legacy to a global stage through its participation in Expo 2025 Osaka. The Kingdom’s pavilion, titled “Confluence of Seas”, offers a unique space where authentic cultural elements merge with modern innovation and creative design.

Music plays a central role in the pavilion’s experience, led by Bahraini artist and researcher Hassan Hujairi, who presents sound installations inspired by traditional Bahraini folk arts, particularly Fidjeri—a genre deeply tied to the lives of pearl divers. His work reimagines this heritage in a contemporary form that resonates with international audiences, offering new perspectives on Bahrain’s culture.

The pavilion’s immersive journey is not limited to music alone. It integrates sound with architecture, visual arts, and culinary experiences, presenting visitors with a holistic portrait of Bahrain’s cultural identity and highlighting the power of the arts as a bridge for global understanding.

As part of its participation, preparations are underway for Bahrain’s National Day celebration at Expo 2025, which will take place on Thursday, September 18, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

From September 17 to 20, the pavilion will host an extensive cultural program headlined by live Bahraini musical performances. The program will showcase the richness of the Kingdom’s musical scene, blending traditional folk arts with contemporary sounds, performed by leading Bahraini musicians and ensembles. This diversity aims to connect with Expo visitors from all walks of life, reaffirming Bahraini music as a universal language of dialogue and cultural openness.
