Otaru Japan, canal cruise, German brewery & bar, music box museum, world-famous Le Tao cakeshop

Otaru, Hokkaido, Japan, July 22, 2025 – From Sapporo, we took a 1-hour train ride to Otaru, one of Japan’s first international ports. Its European vibe mixed with Japanese charm makes it a unique place to visit. We took a boat cruise along the canals, which reminded us of Amsterdam. We had refreshments at the Otaru Beer Museum, which brews its own German beer. Then, we visited the music box museum, which was filled with cute, well-crafted music boxes (there were so many of them that it was overwhelming). We then had snacks at the world-famous Le Tao cakeshop with its delicious pastries and coffee. We ended the day with a steak dinner back at the JR station in Sapporo. Another memorable day in Japan.
