Kagoshima Wagyu BLEW ME AWAY! πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅

Good afternoon from Kumamoto where I’m about to head via this bullet train to the old Satsuma domain now known as Kagoshima. Loads of people getting off here. So this train just came from Fukuoka Hakata. It’s about halfway down the island. We’re going to the very south of the island, Kagoshima. And I just booked my ticket like 10 minutes ago and it was a seat where nobody’s sitting next to me. So it should be like that. I should have a seat here. 10D. Yep. Right in here. And this seat was unoccupied. So, the train literally just stopped for one minute. I barely had time to put my suitcase overhead before we took off. And the best way to enjoy your train ride is with a window seat so you can have a nice view and an egg sandal from the train station Kini so you can have a nice munch. Yum, yum. Okay, that was fast as you would expect from a bullet train, guys. So, this journey, if I was going to take it by car, it would take 2 and 1 half to 3 hours. And by bullet train, about 45 or 50 minutes. So to get to my hotel from here, I can either take two trams or I can take the free shuttle bus that the hotel provides. But um do I jump in here or what? Yeah, that leaves in like 5 minutes. Yeah, there’s one every half an hour and the next one leaves in 5 minutes. So I will see if I can catch it. If not, I’ll take the tram. Bus station. Is that the actual bus station? I see a sign there for a bus. Oh man, it’s one of these massive stations. I don’t think I’m going to make it cuz I actually have to find the platform and everything at the bus station. And now there’s 4 minutes to go. But I’m going to give it a go. Ah, right outside. This is the bus terminal. It’s actually just uh like a bus car park. I got 2 minutes till the bus leaves and it’s platform three. I see a sign for number three this way. This is it. It should be here. But there’s no bus. They said it was number three. Well, I’ve stuck around. It’s 5 minutes past when the shuttle is due to leave here. and it just hasn’t turned up, guys. So, the hotel’s own website said in the east bus terminal, which this is stop three, is where the shuttle will be, and it’s not here. Apparently, it leaves the hotel every on the hour on every half hour, and it leaves here on the 15 minutes and the 45 minutes, and now it’s 50 minutes. So, um yeah, I don’t know if I have to request it or what. The information that I was given is that it it just runs on a regular schedule. But I don’t know. I’ll find out when I get to the hotel. But for now, I’m either going to take a taxi or Oh, there’s taxis right there. Ah, screw it. I’ll just take a taxi. But up there, don’t know if you guys can see it, is a ferris wheel. It doesn’t seem to be moving right now. I’d like to come back here maybe for the uh sunset or something and get a good view from That ferris wheel, you know. Okay. I’ll get it. I’ll get it. I’ll get it. Okay. One frozen. Okay. Okay. Thank you. Okay, so taxi came to 1,000 exactly. So $7. It’s not bad. It’s a short journey though. It’s just a couple of kilometers. Now I’ve arrived. It’s about check-in time right now. Thank you. So on this day, I didn’t get an upgrade, guys. I booked the hotel last night and yeah, I could see there was no suites available. It was just standard rooms, so I knew that was what I was going to get. But I booked the cheapest standard room and they did upgrade me to the same room but with a Sakurajima view which is the big volcano island which is normally I think if you actually pay for that room it’s an extra like 30 or 40 bucks a night. So, I mean, this is the room that I paid for, guys, right here. But yeah, the view should be something special. Let’s check it out, guys. The room after I turn off the TV. Global destination. Okay, that’s better. Yeah, a lot of these hotels, they’re set up like that so that the TV turns on the first time you enter the room and it gives you like a welcome, guys. But welcome to my new room here in Kagoshima, the very south of Kyushu, guys. This is a nice open plan setup here. I think this is like 35 square m or something. Considering that I’ve been staying in a lot of hotels in Japan that are literally half that size, it feels good. Feels like I’ve got a lot of space and all that. But what do we think of this gaff with the open bathroom and all that? Yeah, there’s I guess that’s a toilet in there. But what do you feel about this guys where the bedroom and the bathroom are all one? I feel like I like it when I’m on my own, but if I’m traveling with a chick, then uh it’s too awkward. Unfortunately, all the hotels in Bali are kind of like this. Like 95% of hotels in Bali are like this. So if you travel to Bali with a girl Yeah. you’re going to Yeah. It’s just awkward. I think you can I think you can actually Yeah. Yeah, the ones in Bali have like curtains and stuff. So, it’s like that where you can still kind of see the person shuffling around and all that, but uh yeah, I like it when I’m on my own because, you know, you have a shower instead of steaming up the whole bathroom and everything, you come out, right? You got the air conditioned room right here. Yeah, it’s all good, guys. So, is there anything else of not? I think the I can see through the blinds the view and it looks amazing. I’m going to that’s what I’m looking forward to opening the blinds. But uh let’s check the rest of the room out first. I guess not too much. It is just the bathroom, the bedroom. It’s all one. And some information. Welcome to Sherton Kagoshima. Philip Dale Sama. What does sama mean? I know they they write s sometimes after your name to mean like Mr. Ah. Please enjoy our complimentary sweets in the refrigerator which I can see through there. Ah, so here is me about to stuff the mini bar with your man’s on goodies. And the hotel I’ve stuffed the mini bar with some goodies for your man. Huh. Okay, let’s see what we’ve got here. Sherin Kagashima. And this is the what my view is. Oh, wow. I got an array. I’ve got an assortment of sweets right here. Isn’t that nice? Looks like there’s some cheesecake and some other stuff. Okay, that’s good. And I guess they’re fresh cuz that’s why they’re kept in the fridge. But I need to take it out of there because you know how it goes, guys. We got to fill it up with your man’s own goodies. Got some like metal or cans of water. That’s kind of fancy, isn’t it? Yeah. I think there’s nothing else to see. I think through here is going to be the Well, it must be like, what else can it be? It has to be the toilet. Yeah. So, there’s a toilet in here. Let’s see. Yeah. Oh, yeah. It’s like fancy Japanese. Every hotel, even the cheapest hotels, you’ll have a toilet to spray your bum. Okay, first things first, guys, before I head out. Oh, in fact, I’ve got to check the view. How We’re about to do the mini bar, guys. I haven’t checked the view. Let’s uh I’m assuming it’s a button in these fancy hotels. I’m assuming uh you press a button. Bracket. Can it be bracket? Is that what it is? A bracket? What the heck? I think I just turned that on. Oh, no. That’s just turning that up and down. So, what’s the uh how do we do this, guys? Oh, here we go. Are you ready guys for the incredible view? Oh no, it’s all blocked. It’s all blocked by one massive cloud. But the incredible view of Sakurajima, this island, this volcanic island. It’s just across the water there in this vlog. I hope to go over there at some point in this vlog. Not today. It’s kind of late. It’s after 400 p.m. already. But uh yeah, we we’re on a corner. So, we got like a I guess I guess that’s part of the upgrade as well that the room’s on a corner cuz uh that’s also good. It means you’ve only got one neighbor, you know, the uh you don’t have people on both sides, but looks like an apartment building there. They’ve also got the good view. These balconies, they’ve also got the good view. The river’s all dried up. There’s been uh hardly any rain for the last couple of weeks, guys. But yeah, nah, I’ll get a better view later on, I guess, or tomorrow. But for now, I need to settle into the hotel. And I can’t sell into hotel until the mini bar has been stuffed with your man’s own goodies, guys. And it is the good stuff right here. Some a little bit different things than I normally stuff the mini bar with from the cominis. And that is because right beside this hotel next door in fact is a supermarket called a co-op and they’ve got a lot of fresh stuff like little packs of blueberries. And since we’re in the satsuma region of Japan, a big bag of satsumas right there. We’ve got the little vegetable chips. They look good, don’t they? Yeah. So some things you don’t normally get with the convenience, guys. That’s what I was getting there. Some sashimi. They got this on some offer. 980. So less than $7 for three packs of sashimi. I’m going to have some of that right now. And oh yeah, the the melon. You get really good melon in Japan. It’s kind of expensive. What’s that? $429. That’s like $3 for two little slices. But oh, it’s really good. The melon’s always really good, guys. So, uh, yeah, just some the usual teas and protein drinks and yakults and teas and all that. I’ll get all the chocolate and stuff from the comini later, but I just did a quick supermarket mini bar hunt right there. I’m going to eat the sashimi and maybe uh maybe one or two of these as well. Ah, yeah. This is a nice way a nice way to settle in, guys, to the hotel. some Japanese sashimi, some Japanese sweets, and a Japanese coke z to refresh yourself up after a long tiring journey, which was 45 minutes on a bullet train from one safety to the next. It’s so good, guys, traveling in Japan. I mean, if that was another country, that distance traveling by train, it would be a whole day adventure. But in Japan, it’s just it is expensive. That bullet train was $8,000, so that’s like $55. Um, I mean it’s a little bit expensive, but I mean you get what you pay for for sure. And this hotel room, I think I got what I paid for. It’s $160 a night. So, um, yeah, including the view. I’m still looking at it. I actually think all that I was hoping it was like a cloud that was going to pass, but I think that’s actually smoke from the volcano. It’s It’s active right now. But yeah, I paid $160 a night for this hotel. For a Sheran hotel in Japan, I think it’s not too bad at all. And this sashimi is not too bad at all either, guys. That’s the thing. I’ll happily buy sushi and sashimi out the supermarkets here and it still tastes good. It’s still all fresh and nice. In another country, I would never eat the sashimi from the supermarket. Like I see it in the supermarkets in Thailand and it’s never good. Like in Thailand, you actually have to go to a Japanese restaurant to get good Japanese food like sashimi and sushi and all that. Um, but here, like anywhere you see it, it’s going to be good. And the supermarkets always have these free little packets of wasabi and show you for you to just grab along with your sushi. And the selection they had was huge as well. They have a like just Yeah. fridge cabinets for miles with all this kind of stuff. Stuff that I don’t even know what it is, guys. So, yeah, you can eat well here. Just out come beanies and supermarkets for sure. Okay, sweets. What do we have? There’s something that’s tiny. just looks like um Oh, it just looks like it’s like a broken off piece of biscuit or something. I don’t know. Oh, wow. It’s like pure sugar. It’s like um It’s like in Scotland we have something called tablet which is made of like condensed milk and sugar or something like that. And this it’s like a little marshmallowy thing. Is it egg? Looks like tomago. Oh, that is a mango flavored marshmallow. That’s what that is. And I guess this will be raspberry flavored marshmallow with some cream inside. Yeah, like strawberry or raspberry or something. And what’s this? Looks like some kind of cheesecake. M. Oh, yeah. And I’ve just done the speed test, guys. So, it’s 21 megabits down, 27 megabits up. About the same as I got at the Marott Nagasaki. I mean, it’s not brilliant, but it’s not bad either. I mean, it’s just kind of like acceptable. But you can see the volcano here. The smoke is coming from the crater and it’s been blown this way towards us like directly towards us. Like, it could have been blown in any other direction and we’d be getting a amazing view while it’s blown directly towards us. But I’m pretty sure I came from down this way. I think that’s where the train station and the ferris wheel was. So maybe if I go back there, I’ll get a different angle view. Maybe it’s like higher at an angle, so it will actually look good, guys. Um, I think that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to head back over there. And I’m going to take the shuttle bus this time, guys. I’ll see where it drops me off and then I’ll know where to pick it up next time. All right. So, that’s where I was waiting before. That bus terminal. And this seems to be going somewhere different. This is like Oh, it’s like a bus building. It’s like a bus terminal building. Okay. So, yeah, I totally got the wrong place. Go. Yeah, it’s here. And yeah, it’s 3A. That’s is that number three in this building. Yeah, literally it was across the street. I typed in Google Maps to see if there was like another bus terminal and it only brought that up on the map. So, yeah, now I know, guys. And now I will go. I think it doesn’t seem to be. Is that moving? Ah, it’s moving very very slowly. Yeah, it’s moving very very slowly. So, it is operating. Okay. Yeah, I will go up there. Sixth floor ferris wheel. They got the cinema, they got the video games, the claw machines. Where are the gachas? Maybe I’ll play on the gachas after the ferris wheel. But yeah, that’s why it moves slowly. So that it doesn’t never have to stop. You just jump on and off. And these are the tickets. 500 it is. So I wonder if I get my own cabin. If I pay for one ticket, do I get my whole the whole cabin to myself or do I have to share? That’ be kind of awkward if so. Okay. My ticket. Ah. So some of them are like clear glass. The whole thing is like glass. And then other ones are like I think that’s a standard one. That must be some kind of special one. Yeah, that’s the only one I see that’s like that. Yeah, that guy got lucky, I guess. And I guess I got it to myself, guys. I guess I got it to myself. Yeah, that’s good. Well, I’m at the top now. And I mean there’s a good view of Kagoshima City and all that, but as for the volcano over the literally the wind is blowing straight this way. Literally the volcano is covered in its own smoke. So yeah, I mean it’s I think it’s an even worse view than uh from my hotel room window. I think I had a better view from my hotel room window. So this was a complete waste of time, guys. But yeah, check it out. This is give you an idea of how big the city is. Kagoshima right here. And I think that’s a hotel there on top of that small mountain large hill right there. I think that’s a whole like hotel resort that has probably the best view of the volcano. But on a day like today in these conditions, nobody gets the good view. I mean, you if you paid big money to stay in that hotel, you’d be kind of disappointed because that would be the only reason to stay there. And then you’ve got the hassle of coming up and down. Every time you want to go to Family Mart or something, you’re going to have to hike up and down a hill or I don’t know, maybe they have a shuttle bus as well, guys. Oh, yeah. Kaioshima. Okay, I do see a bunch of gacha machines right here. So, I will see if I can find any interesting souvenirs to add to my collection. Like maybe a wee woman right there. And I think it is just the three characters there. So, I have a one in three chance I reckon of getting this we guy. What we get? Come on. Ah, come on. The ball’s too big. There we go. I got moving. Yeah, I got him. I got him. First time. Oh, finally. finally have good luck. After the last time you seen me in Kumamoto playing the gachas and I got super unlucky this time. Good luck has come my way, guys. Oh, it’s nice. It’s h squishy. So squishy. So nice. Yeah, it’s like this. It’s like this. And I think it’s like um it’s hollow. So, I think you put it on top of like a pen or a pencil. It’s got a he’s got a wee hole underneath him. So, um yeah, I think that’s what it is. I’ll put that on a pen or a pencil or something. H we ming. Okay, good. Another souvenir. And now I’m going to go eat tonkatsu, the breaded fried pork. But I’m not going to go and eat any old tonkatsu. I’m going to eat tonkatsu made with kuruba. Kuruba is like the wagyu of pork and it’s from this area of Japan. It’s from Kagoshima. It’s a black pig. That’s literally what kuro ba means. It’s like a black hog. And the actual breed is called um like a black birkshire or something like that. But they breed them in this area. And yeah, they call it the wagu of pork. It’s delicious. So yeah, there’s a lot of restaurants specialized in it and you can eat it in like shabu shaboo. You can eat it like kurabota steaks. I want to eat the kurabota ponatsu cuz I love a good tonkatu guys. So, I’ve got one place that saved on Google Maps down this street. And I’m able to use such useful apps as Google Maps thanks to Olafly, the premium eim that I’m using to stay connected wherever I travel. Yes, I’m always using eims these days, guys. Using those physical SIM cards that you buy at the airport to get some data on your phone and go through all that hassle, queuing up, wasting your time, having to hand over your passport and let somebody take a photo copy of it. All that is a thing of the past. All the pro travelers these days are using eims. It’s just like a digital version of a physical SIM card these days. You can just get it. You download an app like Olafly and install on your phone in one minute. That’s the way it’s done these days, guys. And there’s quite a few eim providers on the market. You might see ads for all these different eim providers. And I’ve tried quite a few of them. And let me tell you, they’re not all equal. You need a premium one like Olifi for me is the best for three reasons actually and I’ll tell you why. Number one, it’s reliable. It’s always connected when I need it to be connected. So, if I’m out and about and I need directions on Google Maps, I need them right there and then. I need to be connected right there and then. I can’t be in a foreign country where nobody speaks English and I don’t know where I am, especially my first day in a new city and I don’t even know the way back to my hotel by foot by public transport. I need to be connected. So, it’s reliable, first of all. Second of all, it’s fast. It’s up to five times faster than other eim providers, and that’s important for me. I’m always uploading videos, stories, all of that. And yeah, it’s one of the highest bandwidth things you can do on a phone is anything to do with videos, streaming videos, uploading videos, doing live streams, all of that. And the other thing about that is it takes up a lot of data. So other eim plans that I’ve had before, I’ve bought like 5 GB, 10 gigabytes, 15 gigabytes, and I’ve always blasted right through it and had to buy like another plan, another plan, spending double, triple what I thought I was going to spend. But with Olifly, they have unlimited data plan. So I’ve actually got the global unlimited plan, which means wherever I travel, I can upload as much as I want. I can download as much as I want. I never have to worry. And like I can just fly anywhere and I have unlimited data. So that’s perfect for me. You know, I’m making these reels. I’m uploading a reel that might be like 500 megabytes, but I’m uploading it to Tik Tok, to Instagram reels, to Facebook reels, to YouTube shots. That’s 2 GB for one small video for one one minute video. So you can imagine if that’s 2 GB, you can imagine over a whole month of travel and content creating how much uh data I need. I need the unlimited plan. So that’s what Holofly gives me. Um yeah, it’s the perfect eim for me, guys. If you want to check it out for yourself, go and check it out on their website and uh find out all the info. You’ll get a little discount as well. If you use my link and yeah, thanks to Olafly for sponsoring this video. And thanks to Olafly for making my life as a traveler and a travel content creator that much easier. Yeah, this is the place here. There are the ponatsu specialists. I think I can just cross the street. There’s no uh walkway or anything. Hello. One person. Yes. Okay. Yeah. Okay. This kuruba. No. Kuruba. Kurabha. Kurabha. Kurabha. Okay. Kurabha. Okay. It’s Kurabha. Okay. All is Kurabha. No. No. Yeah. Another here and here. Kuraba. Kuraba. But this this and this is Kurabota. Yeah. And this? No. No. Okay. Only this one. And you can just eat it. This one’s delicious. I wish we You like it. You think? Okay. You think it’s delicious? Okay. Maybe. Uh, small. Small. Uh, yeah. 180. I like big. Big. Okay. Big. Oh, this set miso. Mosi and Gohan. Yeah. Oh, okay. Okay. Okay. Yes. One set big, please. Okay. That’s nice. That looks good. Nice breaded fried kurb. Kurob. Kuroba. Okay. I’ll get it right eventually. Kuroba. Sorry. Okay. Okay. Okay. Thank you. H. Yeah. Okay. A good smell. Oh, it’s for good smell. Yeah. Okay. I never seen before. So, I just put like this for a good smell. Like this. Oh, okay. Good. Yeah. Nice. Okay. Okay. Thank you. I think Okay. Okay. It’s okay. Show you. No. Sauce. Sauce. Sweet. Sweet sauce. Ah. Okay. Okay. Okay. Oh, like goes in here. Yeah. Okay. Dressing. Oh, dressing. Okay. French and Japanese. Okay. Okay. Wow. Okay. Ah. Okay. Uh sauce. Sauce. Okay. So, I was reading this and apparently this is like a broth made from bonito and kelp. And you you dip, right? Okay. And also the sauce with the Yeah. Sweet. One, two, maybe three. Ah, okay. Different ways to eat. Yes. Ah, okay. Like that. Can dip it in the broth. Can dip it in the sauce. Can dip it with the wasabi. Yeah. Another h mustard. Yeah, mustard. Ah, and there is pink salt. Yeah, pink pink salt. Yes. Yes. Okay. Lots of ways to eat. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Look at this. Beautiful. Beautiful. Kuro Buha. Okay. I got it right. Kuro Buha. I’m going to try it first on its own before I start dipping it. I want to get a good flavor of the a good taste of the flavor of this juicy. Oh wow. Juicy juicy pork steak. Look how white the meat is as well. That’s a healthy meat that is. Oh wow. M. It’s so soft. It’s so juicy. It’s so tasty. Wow. I’m going to I’m going to dip it in this bonito and kelp. Oh, it’s like when you get the tempura. It’s like the tempura sauce for that. It’s like you’ve got the crispy cutlet, you got the crispy batter, and then that kind of softens it up and then it soaks into it as well. Just like that. Yum, yum. Try it with this sweet sauce with the crushed roasted sesame seeds. Smells good. Oh yeah. Rey. Going to try it with a bit of wasabi now. Yeah, it’s good. Adds um an extra dimension an extra dimension to the taste. Oh, okay. Thank you so much. Yeah, just Oh, you have a machine. Yeah. Okay. Okay, that’s cool. Kakoi Koi. Yeah, Kako in Japan. Huh? Me. Yeah. Norway. Uh, Europe. Uhhuh. Scotland. Yes. Scotland. Yes. Thank you. Okay. I press this. Okay. Thank you. Okay. That was nice, guys. Looks like a a small little independent restaurant, but they even have like a electronic cash register. It’s pretty cool. And they’re so friendly compared to when you just go out to, you know, like a chain restaurant or whatever here. I think it’s like, you know, family restaurant or something like that. And they really take pride in their food. Oh, wow. That was that pork steak. It was so juicy. And the meat was white. It was like Yeah. the the texture was like I mean you could you could think you were eating chicken but it tastes like the most delicious pork like if you’ve had pork but more delicious than that but the texture kind of like I like white chicken meat or something so you feel like you’re eating like a healthy type of meat obviously it’s deep fried breaded and deep fried or whatever it’s not going to be that healthy but it was certainly delicious guys just some random little shop called Saiku S A I K O U. So if you’re in Kagoshima, yeah, you got to check that one out, don’t you? And it’s quite close to the You can see the ferris wheel there. It’s quite close to the station in the mall. So it’s going to be easy for any of you guys who visit the city to come and try it. Now, what I want to try is another ice cream snack from the Kvenini right now. Uh, but I think I’ll walk back to my hotel and grab one on the way. Just basically the same as I did in the last vlog, guys. I guess this is my local 7-Eleven. This is the closest one to my hotel. That’s my hotel right there. So, what is interesting here? Acai balls. It’s just vanilla ice cream. Another ice cream cones. Oh, this looks good here. Some pinos for the Filipinos. H daddy choco mint. Ah, that looks like the choco manaka. This one. I think this one’s supposed to be famous. It’s like a chocolate bar with ice cream inside. Mori anger. Yeah, I reckon I’ll get this one. And I ended up getting a whole bag of uh drinks and snacks. But the one I’m going to munch when I get back to the hotel is this ice cream bar. I don’t even know the name of it. I’m going to have to Google translate. And apparently it is called a chocolate bar. It is literally called a chocolate bar. Yeah. Not the most exciting name. It’s just snap. Yeah. You just Huh? Wait. What? It said snap. And then uh what? Okay. I think that means snap in the Wait, it said I’m sure it said snap. Now it’s it’s saying something totally different now guys in all sorts of different ways. It’s saying this word. I thought it said snap. I’m sure it said snap. Am I Am I imagine it? What? Do I need to look at it from a different angle or what? No. From every angle it’s that guys. But um yeah, there’s a Belgian flag on the top and it says made with Belgian chocolate. 5% Belgian chocolate is used. I think it’s just chocolate that’s around the ice cream. So yeah, let’s open this and check it out. This 291 calorie bar, it barely weighs anything. I can’t believe this is 291 calories. Must be absolutely rammed with sugar. Okay, so we’ve got the cardboard packaging with the silver sleeve. Oh, it just does look like a big old a big old chocolate bar. You know, if you’re going to buy an actual chocolate bar. And it it’s it’s thicker than I thought it was going to be. It’s thick chocolate and vanilla ice cream. I’m assuming vanilla ice cream stuffed. It’s very crispy. M. Oh, it’s so sweet and so creamy. M. Oh m M m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m. Yeah, the the chocolate is delicious. That is actual Belgian chocolate. That’s Oh man, it’s melting already. And it says on their 30th anniversary. So 30 years Japanese people have been enjoying their chocolate bar and they do this snap. Oh, it’s too it’s already too melted for me to do the snap. It’s uh Yeah, I’m just going to have to stuff it in my gob because I’m getting in some mess, guys. Yeah, if you get this one, guys, um yeah, eat it quickly after you take it out the 7-Eleven. Don’t wait 5 minutes like your man. But that’s me for today. I will see you guys when it is a new day and it’s a new day with the same old cloud of smoke covering Sakurajima there. I still don’t have my beautiful Sakurajima view unfortunately guys. And unfortunately it was raining all morning and early afternoon as you can probably see from the black clouds there. It’s dried up like an hour ago. I’m finally going to There are still people with their umbrellas, but I think I even know it’s not sunny or raining. I don’t know. I think they’re just in the habit of using umbrellas. Uh guys, yeah, there’s like an umbrella person there. Right there. And then there’s like another one there. It’s It’s not as sunny or rain, so I don’t know what the reason is, but yeah, I’m leaving it late again today, guys. It’s now almost 300 p.m. And where I want to head to is pretty far from here. I think it’s like maybe like 8 km up the coast there is Sangan N. It’s the garden and palace of the lords of the Shimazu clan that ruled this Satsuma do the main area that’s now Kagoshima during the Edeto period. So yeah, I want to see what their gaff is like. And apparently they’ve got a matcha cafe there and some other traditional sweets and there’s like some traditional souvenirs and stuff that I can possibly pick up. So I mean that’s the real reason I’m going. There’s tasty treats, guys. But I don’t have much time to get myself there. So yeah, I guess we got to head over there now. I can get there with two trams or a tram and a train which takes 40 minutes. Or I could get there in 18 minutes by a taxi. That’s a taxi there. I wonder if they can stop or if I have to pick them up at set points. I’ll give it a go. Okay, that’s good. Uh, San N. Hi. Okay. And on the left here is Kagashima Castle. Once a fort for the Shimazu clan after the Mei restoration that kind of turned to ruins. So there’s not much behind those gates. But where I’m going singing in, that’s the former home of the lords of the Shimazu clan. It’s still very much intact. Yeah. Okay. Cool. Okay. Keep forgetting those doors are automatic on a taxi. They uh they open and close automatically. So, it says here entrance and tickets. H. Yeah, I think it’s in there. Okay. Yes. And we have a list. Where are you from? Ah, okay. Route. There’s an actual route. So, I guess I’ll follow the route. I guess it’s like a Yeah, there’s a bunch of different things to see. So, this is where we’re starting off from. We’re going all the way up here, which is You can see how big this whole complex is where this Shimazu clan used to live. right next to the sea with a view of the Sakurajuma there which well is still covered in smoke. We can we still haven’t fully seen that volcano but uh yeah there’s a lot of stuff here. There is the grave of the princess. There’s some mountain god. Uh there’s a pottery place, the curical glass works. So a bunch of the stuff that glass works and all that all the manufacturing the Shimazu clan they were one of the first plans in Japan during the feudal times to embrace industrialization even before the Maji restoration when Japan became an industrialized nation and you know had the central government around the emperor and stuff like that. the clan here during the Edeto period they were uh embracing and industrializing like making stuff uh pottery glass works and all this and this is a furnace they’re saying it’s for uh ships and cannons and all that they were building so China being defeated by Britain in the opium wars alarmed that would have been the lord of the shimadu clan at the time so yeah they were building cannons and ships and stuff to defend themselves. And this Yeah, would have been a massive furnace right here. I don’t know how the camera’s holding up with the wind noise, guys, but I I don’t even know if you can tell, but it’s really windy. So, um, yeah, I guess we’ll see when I play the footage back. And this is the mountain deity and water dy. So, it’s two shrines built in the 18th century. One for the mountain, one for the water. And this is the grave of Princess Yamasha. She was the daughter of the Lord, the head of the Shamazu family, Tadayoshi. And they buried some of her hair and teeth under the rock here. Wow. Yeah. And these buildings all look new. In fact, I think this is one of the ones with uh sweets. Yeah, there’s these things right here. Know what they’re called? Like some kind of hot mochi or something like that. Ah, jambo mochi. Ah, okay. It’s called jambo mochi. Ah, it’s like this. Ah, it’s simple. Yes, it’s simple. I can try. No, it’s decoration. Can’t. Can’t. Ah, okay. It’s like Yeah, it’s like Yeah, I understand. Okay. It’s not not simple. Same size. Ah, same size everything. Ah, it’s presentation. Ah, okay. Yes. Uh, okay. One one set of six sticks with uh six sticks with free tea. Bony tea. Free tea with free tea. Six. Oh. Oh. Six is with free tea. Free tea. Okay. Okay. Okay. Good. Go here. Oh, here. Yes. 500. 500 yen. Okay. Okay. Okay. This is mine here. How many people? Oh, me? One. Yeah, it’s one only. Okay, go. Okay, that’s nice. I’ve barely done any exploring, but already taking a rest. Ah, it’s like it’s like this. You sit. H, how does this work? Yeah, it’s like your table and chair at the same time. Like in that place I was in near Bandung where apparently this is like Sundanese style they have like this when they have a munch. Okay, let’s give these six. There’s six of them but they’re very small so I should manage. But let’s give these six hot mochies jumbo mchis. I think they’re small but they’re called jumbo or was it jambo? I think it’s jambo. Maybe this is the because of the jam that’s over it. Should I taste it? Oh, it’s hot. It’s like a It’s like a toffee. It’s like a sweet toffee. M. That’s nice. Okay. M. It’s super chewy. It’s really chewy. Yeah. It’s more more chewy than a normal mochi. I’m going to Google some information about these things. Jambo, was it jambo mochi? It says that the jambo mochi were a popular snack for the samurai when they were traveling out of the Satsuma demand outside of Kagoshima. It says there um they passed by Sangan in this area to pick up some to take on their journey. And they’d probably eat them cold then, but I got mine fresh, steamed, hot. They’re made of rice flour and they’re dipped in sweet soy miso. So, it’s soy miso and sugar. I guess that’s what I’m tasting. Yeah. Yeah. It’s interesting the the sweet and the miso together kind of like contrasting flavors. Miso is usually like a, you know, a savory type of flavor, guys. Right. Tasty samurai snack full of energy. Let’s see what else there is around here. There’s an ice cream shop there. Okay, maybe that’s what I’ll get on the on the way back. Ice cream. That matcha soft served matcha ice cream cones there. And there’s a bunch of stuff. I want to get the glass as a souvenir. Probably I’ll get in there. Okay. Yeah, I should do the exploring first before the all the snacks and the gift shop and all that. But that’s a huge uh a huge gift shop in there. So, we are here and the next point of interest will be number nine, which was the main gate. I guess the entrance that we came in wasn’t the real entrance. The back in the day entrance will be just up here. And we seem to have missed this number seven. The stone wall and the sight of the Satsumi Satsumi the Satsuma pottery kilm. Well, yeah, that’s a stone wall there. I guess it’s up there where I thought it was just like another gift shop. Yeah, there’s like a pottery kilm there. But yeah, let’s go and check out the main gate, the main uh entrance to this whole area. Ah, main gate. The main gate was constructed in 1895. Oh, that’s well after the well after the Edeto period. So, yeah, the crest of the Shimazu family are engraved. So, this is like a Well, it’s 1895, but this is fairly modern. Main gate right here. It goes right out under the street. H I wonder why they don’t make this the uh the main gate to come in here. This whole area it’s pretty cool. Yeah, I guess there’s not much room. That’s just like a like small road. They probably couldn’t have like a car park and people stopping and getting picked up and dropped off and stuff there. So, it makes sense. the house entrance. So I guess this would have been the lord’s house. The main man discovered the lifestyle of the Shimazu family from late 19th century to early 20th century. So another fairly new fairly new thing. Okay. It’s pretty uh the beams are pretty small. Guess people are like I would literally I would literally hit my head on that. I guess you know this clan back in the day they went that tall. Yeah, they’ve got this central area enclosed right in the middle. Don’t know what they would do there. That’s just like a a little indoor garden basically. This is the way that I came in. I guess this would be the living room. A lot of Japanese homes are stuff like this where just like everything’s on the floor. They have these tatami mats and everything can be moved around. you know, if they have guests around, they can make certain furniture and then if they’re sleeping, they can roll out like a futon or something. So, the rooms become like um like multi- multi-purpose. Oh, wow. These massive vases. These are replicas of two vases that were sent to the last emperor of Russia from the Shimadzu clan. That’s sat satsuma were vases or vases depending on how you pronounce it. Presented to Nicholas II, last emperor of Russia by the 29th head of the Shimadu family. Edward VII visited Kagoshima in 1922. Oh, wow. Beautiful. I guess that’s where they would have sat on the stone or indoors there and just chilled complete peace because it’s all enclosed. You even get like a shelter from the wind. You get shelter under that from the rain and stuff. So, you can always have some fresh air and enjoy watching your we fishes. Oh, wow. This is a dining room. They actually have a proper table. Yeah, they actually have a proper I wasn’t expecting that. They actually have a proper uh proper chairs and table. Maybe that’s for when they had uh western guests coming to visit. Yeah, the reception room. So, yeah, that makes sense. And there’s a chandelier made in London there. Yeah, this was used to receive important guests. visited from royalty from overseas like King Edward and all that, they wouldn’t have made King Edward sit and drink his tea on the ground. They would have probably served it to him at a table, I reckon. Oh, and then coming out of the house, this is the view. So that’s the study. This is the view they would have had. That is the volcano right there. Yashi would change and have his hair arranged in this room. He was a traditional man and he maintained the old ways despite embracing the modernization and industrialization in Japan. And each morning he would change into a kimono, have his hair tied into a top knot. Even as the others around him or begin to wear western clothes, he kept it traditional in his appearance. That’s where he would have sat and poured water over himself. Or maybe he had some women to do that for him. I’m pretty sure he would have had that. He would have his kimono removed and body washed by servants. Yeah. So, it probably would have been female servants for sure. Tadashi’s bathroom. It’s huge. Tadashi’s bathroom is bigger than most hotel rooms that people are staying in in Japan these days. And Tatayoshi’s bog in here. It’s this toilet. I guess just a hole in the ground. You just lift up and probably the servants are scooping it out from underneath here. And that’s Tad Yoshi’s fan right there to keep him nice and to give him nice Hey, he did he did embrace western technology and stuff. Maybe maybe it’s Tad Yoshi’s fan. What um yeah, what what a gaff, eh? to have this as your house. To have that as your view, to have this as your garden, incredible, eh? And this is the welcome room. When the overseas dignitaries came and brought gifts, they would open them here. I guess that’s probably where they would have drank tea and had a quick informal chat. And this is ah this is straight out onto the garden. Wow. So nice. E that’s under the water and all that. This place is huge. Wonder how many people actually lived here other than Tado Yoshi. How many servants and all that. And this, I guess, would be for carrying stuff. Probably a couple of guys on each side. And then you would they’d load that with whatever they were transporting. No, I think I’ve uh I think I’ve seen everything. Go. Oh, well, that was interesting. It was more interesting than I thought it was going to be, actually. Okay, further exploring in these grounds, guys. Wow. And a nice pavilion here to chill out under and again get the amazing view of Sakurajima. And oh wow, that’s incredible. Check that out up there. There’s like chocked or carved writing in the cliff face Jingan in 1814 under the orders of the 27th head of the Shimadzu family. So I think that was two before Tadoshi whose house we were just in. He got a total of 3,900 people to work for 3 months to carve the three characters into the cliff face. 3,900 people. What were they doing? They probably would have had to build like some crazy scaffling or something to get up there. Like, yeah, he’s he’s literally made them do that. Like thousands of people cuz he just cuz he wanted some word like visible from his pavilion or the garden or whatever. That’s crazy. 3,900 people worked for 3 months to carve these three characters. The characters literally mean very large rock. So it literally just means large rock. The very large rock. Very large rock. They got them to write that into the very large rock. And the pigment is made with crushed cells. Crushed shells to paint the characters white. Yeah, that’s how they would have made paint back then. Carving characters into rocks is a Chinese custom and it’s very unusual to see in a Japanese garden. So yeah, these they were always meeting people from other countries and stuff, the dignitaries. So they probably learned that from them that that was like a cool thing to do. And then the the the lord the shimadu lord was probably like, “Yeah, I want that as well. I want that in my garden.” So that’s what he did. Oh, wow. It’s proper windy today, guys. Proper windy. Root. Okay. And we are here at the Chofokco Bridge and interesting sites coming up are Taka Musa. Ah, that’s Taka Musu there. The structure is used to distribute water. Ground water is stored here before being supplied to the pond in front of the residence. So, it’s like a water storage thing. Ah, I see. That’s what it is. Okay. And then it gets sent to the pond. What else are we going to see? We’ve seen the bridge and 20 and 21. I don’t know what that is. Sho. And there’s some electric hydroelectric dam ruins up there. So, that’ll be that’ll be up there. and 1924 a shrine and a bamboo grove. Okay, sounds good. Oh, wow. Wow. Incredible. Incredibler. Nice. This is the site of the Shujo, which was an industrial complex. There was mining equipment, firearms, swords, pottery, all produced here. Not there. That’s a toilet, I guess. In here, this would have been like a we factory that it looks like you can’t get inside. Says staff only. Think the factory has now been turned into like staff quarters. or whatever. Yeah, it’s all it’s all closed off. This whole part. And this is where you get the best view of the volcano right here at this part. Wow. What an incredible beautiful place. And apparently this wall, it came off a power station that they had created. And this isn’t actually where the power station was. It’s just they’ve been able to like preserve this wall and they’ve moved it here. And the circle with the cross through the middle, that’s the family symbol for the clan. Yeah. It’s a circle crest of the Shimadu family. And the monument it’s part it’s part of the wall at a power station. It was con constructed at the gold mines. Yeah. In 1907 and Kushu Electric Power must own that these days. And then in 1983 they’ve presented it back to the family to have it in their garden. That’s like a cool monument. That is really cool. And this is the hydroelectric dam right here. Hydroelectric dam ruins. This is the site of a hydroelectric dam built in 1892 for exclusive use of the Shimanzu family. It was one of the earliest such facilities made in Japan and was used to provide lighting to the house and the workshop. So yeah, this is how they would have got their power, their electricity with this hydroelectric dam. Wow. And now we’re going to the Kio Kusoui Kusoui Garden. As if they didn’t have enough gardens. There’s another garden up the hill as well. It’s all garden, guys. It’s all garden here. Yeah, I think this whole area is just the garden. Like the paths and all that. I wanted to go up and see what that is. That wooden box right there. But the steps going up there. There’s no sign saying I can’t go. But there’s a rope. I’m assuming that’s them telling you not to go up there and explore no matter how tempting it is to do so. The Conan Bamboo Grove Monument. This monument from 1837 bears an inscription of the historical background of the Conan Bamboo Grove. So nearly 200y old monument here. I don’t know if any of you guys can read that. Probably not many of my viewers can read that because less than 1% are Japanese, but yeah, I think this is a dead end. Yeah, I can’t go any further there. Ah, that’s all bamboo there. So that’s the bamboo grove right there. And that’s the bamboo grove monument. Yep, the bamboo grove. But it looks like you can’t walk through it like you can in Kyoto and all that. Get those cool selfies and that kind of thing. This is one of their shrines. They call this the Ana shrine. So they’ve got the part for washing yourself. They got the Tory gate there and all that. Yeah. So if you’re Shinto, you can come and do a prayer. This ancient ancient shrine right here and another shrine here, the cat shrine. It looks like there’s a bunch of cat statues. It’s one of these where you can write your wishes. Oh, yeah. Does it is actually called the cat shrine. Yeah, it’s the cat shrine. And what is this? The filtration bed. Now it filters the water before it goes into the house. That’s They were so advanced, guys. Oh, what is this? Oh, it’s a well. Yeah. Sakon Taro is a water producing rice husking machine. Oh, it’s a water powered rice husking machine. Okay, so it’s for husking the rice. Ah, there we go. So, you put all the raw rice in there. This fills up and then automatically automatically when it’s heavy enough, it’ll lift the water will fall into there and then it will slam back down. So, let’s check this out, guys. Nearly there. Nearly there. There we go. Here we go. Bam. And it slams back down. and crushes the rice, huskys the rice. It removes the husk from the rice. That strikes about once a minute or 1440 times a day or a total of half a million times a year. Automation, guys, before AI and all of this. That was automation. The rice husking machine. There’s apparently up here a pagoda. Well, it says no entry collapse hazard. Huh. Yeah, it says hiking trail to the sights of the cano sea and shenani pavilions. Yeah. Roco diesel pagod. Yeah, it’s closed off. Guess it’s dangerous now. Okay, it gives me an excuse not to hike all the way to the top of that. I don’t know if I would get up and down in time for this place closing. This place is closing in like half an hour. Anyway, yeah, every way up is closed off. Got ropes on this one, a wooden fence on that one. They really don’t want you to go up there, guys, which makes it very tempting to go up there. You know, it’s tempting, but you know, I’m trying to follow the rules while I’m in Japan, guys. I’m trying my best at least. So, yeah, I will ignore the temptation for now. Look, another route. So many roots. How much exploring could you do here, guys? Up and down all these different areas. Exploring, hiking. How much fun would it be? But no, I’ll have to get my fun from the soft serve matcha ice cream shop that I passed near the entrance. That’s where I will get my fun and refreshment. Ah, another another closed off place. Ah. Ah, this looks good. The steam. Ah, there’s You can dress up like samurai and all that. I’ve left it too late. Ah, my god. I could have explored the whole area dressed like a samurai and I could have cut my own glass and everything. I think I’ve left it way too late for all this. Yeah, it’s uh the whole the whole complex is closing in 24 minutes, but you can do archery and all that. Yeah, there’s a bunch of cool stuff that you can do in there. Uh I don’t know if they would let you explore around or I think you can just take photos wearing the samurai outfit. But yeah, I would have liked to explore the whole area. I guess it would be heavy. It’s like armor, isn’t it? So, I guess that would be like it wouldn’t be that practical to roam around in it. But that’s some of the glass. I want to get myself some kind of souvenir like that. The This is the style of glass that’s invented by the tribe here, the clan. So, I didn’t see the glass works like we should wipe the lens after the steam. I didn’t see the like the factory or whatever, but I believe they would have had a factory here like making these things. Yeah, it’s Shimatsu Satsuma Kiriko. Satsuma Kirao. It’s a kind of cut crystal glass. It’s their style. First created in Kagoshima in 1851 by the 28th head of the Shimadzu family, Narakira. That’s why it’s called Kiko because Narakira invented it. And ah they’re using Chinese techniques and layering colored glass, European cut glass patterns. So all the knowledge they got from these other civilizations, they created their own kind of style of kico cut crystal glass. And that’s proper expensive just that. That’s $17,000 yen. That is like $750 or something like that for one for one cup. Guys, I’m I think I’m changing my mind about getting one of these as a souvenir. I thought it’d be like 10 20 bucks. But they’re proper uh proper expensive. Yeah, they’re like $33,000. So that’s like $230 for one. That’s proper That’s proper expensive. But they are very fancy. Yeah, I’ve definitely changed my mind about getting one of these, but I mean they are nice. And this one is a million yen. A million yet. That’s $7,000, guys. That is $7,000 for that. What would you even do with it? I mean, if you want to be really baller, you could, I don’t know, drink rum and coke. Drink rum and coke out of it. Some gin and juice if you if you want to act totally baller. Uh yeah. quarter a million for that. I wonder I wonder how much of these these sell on a daily basis. I left the shop without a souvenir. I I was I was going in there intending to buy something thinking I’m going to get just a we glass or something small that can fit in my suitcase. I can wrap it around a sock or something to keep it safe till I take my flights and stuff out of the country. But yeah, the prices I’m not I I don’t want it that I don’t want it that much that I’m going to pay. Maybe they have like a I don’t know, like a mass produced version or something like that. Like a replica version in this shop. Uh I’m guessing these souvenirs are going are going to be a lot cheaper than the bloody $1,000 vases. And what was it? Like a $7,000 bloody ball or something. These look good. Kukan. It’s just a It’s just like a mochi by the looks of it. Bean paste inside. You had a zuki inside. A record from the time of Naria Kira indicates that he enjoyed it. So yeah, the 28th Lord. That’s what he liked to snack on right there. Looks like a fluffy version of a mochi. Yeah, they have a box with three there. Koken. I don’t know. I don’t see like a single one here. Koken. Yeah. None of these. None of these single ones. Oh, that’s Oh, yeah. That’s a whole pack there. Oh, that’s a single one there. Sorry, skipping the queue. Yeah, I’m going to get a single one. Okay. Okay. Ah, the matcha cafe is through here. Maybe I should uh Yeah, that’s something that when I heard about this place that convinced me to go here. I heard where you get matcha desserts and All that kind of thing. You can drink some proper proper matcha. Closed. Oh, okay. Can I go this way? Okay. Oh, wow. Left it too late. Guys, there’s still people enjoying their matcha. Ah, that was my main reason for coming here was there’s a matcha cafe. And it’s not like I can just come back uh tomorrow and just for the matcha cafe that I missed because I’d have to It’s literally inside the complex. I literally have to pay 1,600 yen again just to come back in here to go to the matcha cafe. But I seen had so many nice like matcha desserts and you could get proper matcha tea and all that. Ah, guys, I don’t know. Nah, I was probably I think even if I didn’t stop for this, I was still too late because I think this whole complex is closing in, let me check, 11 minutes. It’s 4:49 and it closes at 5:00 p.m. So yeah, very cute. I left it way too late. Oh well, I’ve got my karoken to try. In fact, there’s a bench right here. I can just chill. I could just chill here and try it so I’m not doing the unthinkable, guys. Oh, walking and eating at the same time. Oh, that is horrendous. Okay, Karukin, how is it looking? It’s looking like this. It’s very spongy. Feels like a Oh, it’s very windy. Uh, yeah, it feels like sticky rice and more than a mochi. It tastes the texture. This is going to blow away. The texture is um the texture is more like it’s more like rice rather than like rice flour. It feels very I don’t know like grainy. Feels more grainy than like the smooth mochi. Where’s the ah there’s nothing inside it. There’s nothing. Where’s the red bean paste? I’ve been I’ve been ripped off. It’s literally just the plain rice. Just a little bit sweet. Just got like a a milky a milky sweet taste to it. But that would have been tremendous with the the red beans inside. Oh man. See, I got a different one to the one that was on display. That’s how they get you guys. That’s how they get you. They all bait and switch. right here. And even the soft serve the soft serve ice cream shop is closed. Thankfully, I stopped on the way in very early on the route to get that jambo mochi or would have missed out on that experience as well. But that is unfortunate. Anyway, guys, I’m going to make my way back downtown. I’ll take the tram, I guess, since I’m in no hurry this time. I don’t need to pay like what was it? 2,200 for a taxi. Like uh I know like $16. I’ll just take the tram. I’ll go downtown and um there’s an area I haven’t checked out yet, like the main shopping arcade kind of area. I think I’ll go down that way. Check that out. This is where we are at Singan. And this is the main like Kagoshima area there. So yeah, there’s a train line that can take me to kind of shopping arcade. It’s either this building or this building will be the train station. Ah, that’s just a museum. Ah, it’s the machinery factory. That’s the old factory there. And I think I can get in with my ticket, but I probably left it too late. Yeah, like it closes in 5 minutes, but I think last entry is like half past 4, even though it closes at 5:00, so I can’t just nip in and have a quick look, I guess. But yeah, I’m pretty sure this is included in the ticket. Yeah, and there’s the glass works. That’s the glass works where they make all that glass. Ah, so yeah, it’s closed. Former Shikin machinery factory. Yeah, I’ve missed all this. Yeah. Ah, that would have been there’s probably a lot to see in there. They would have had all the old machinery. Ah, I see. I didn’t know. Yeah, it’s like a museum as well. I see entrance with the shenan ticket, but I’m too late. And the glass works where they made the kico glass. Ah, whatever. whatever. And that’s the station there. That little stand is the train station, which I don’t know what time the trains are at or anything, but as long as I take it in the right direction, it should drop me off where I want to go. That’s a good selfie, guys. Oh, that’s a pretty good selfie, I reckon. Oh, that’s good. It’s like the It’s like a very old train. Reminds me of the trains in India and Sri Lanka where you can lift this up. It’s nice. And after just one stop, I need to change to the tram. I think this one according to Google Maps. Oh, wrong doesn’t work. H know what’s going on. Poly moco. That’s closed. Oh, okay. It’s uh Google map says city tram number two and on the front of this it said oh it just changed it was red and it said number two. Now it’s blue and it says number one. So yeah I think I missed I think I missed one. Yeah but I’m sure that said two and it was red. Now it’s Now it’s blue and it’s one. Guess it’s probably going to be this one. Yeah, track two and Mon country. Okay, I got to go to [Music] Yeah. Off. Uh, okay. Thank you. I don’t know what happened. Maybe it doesn’t take these You can you cannot use I use this one. Okay. I 178. Okay. I have cash. 78. Just exchange machine. Exchange machines. Oh, okay. and 170. And 1 2 3 4. [Applause] Okay. It’s okay. Okay. Okay. So, apparently it takes and something else, but it doesn’t take the the one I got in Foa. I think I’m going the wrong way. I don’t know. The one I got in Foca, the Hayaken card, it doesn’t take it. Okay, green man is flashing. But this is the big shopping arcade in this area. There’s some kind of party going on there. And this area is more chilled. So, I’ll check out this area first. Yeah, I had the 170 in coins ready just in case it would take my card so that I could quickly just put them in the the coin slot and I put it in the change machine instead and I ended up holding people up and I tried not to hold people up. I tried to anticipate the issue and be prepared but I still messed it up guys. No worries though, cuz your man’s going to enjoy some Wagyu steak. I think I don’t have a restaurant in this area mapped any recommended place or whatever, but apparently loads of the restaurants around here, you can get Wagyu beef. And the Wagyu from this region of Kyushu is supposed to be especially good. This whole covered shopping arcade is huge. It goes in all these directions and it even across the road there. So, let’s have a look for somewhere to munch some Wagu. This looks like a place. Uh, they got like sashimi and they got like beef and all that. I don’t know. It doesn’t look too appealing. Guess it’s just some random upstairs place. Kind of want to see inside before I sit inside to see how awkward it’s going to be to sit there with a camera. Most of the interesting places I’ve been eating at I’ve been eating at when I’m not vlogging like there. Like if I have to sit at the counter there, it’s just too awkward, you know? It’s just too awkward to sit and film. Maybe if I sit in the corner or something, then uh I can do it, you know. So, this is the kind of thing I need to check out. And the problem is when you’re on your own, they do try and just set you at the bar, like sitting shoulderto-shoulder. They’re not going to give you your own table when they only have like who even knows what is behind there. They’re not going to give you your own table when they only have like four tables. So, it’s like a kind of casual place. Oh, it’s Hamburg. We are Hamburg, not Hamburger. Hamburger is different from Hamburg. We are a meat patty with no buns. Ah, yeah. So, it’s it’s like that’s popular in Japan. It’s like a hamburg. I wonder if I could get a Wagu hamburg. That might be interesting. But again, it’s like it’s one of these where they’d set you up next to the bar. Yeah, it’s too uh these places are too cozy. Like they’re all like that. Look, they’re all kind of, you know, they’re I don’t mind eating in them when I’m on my own, when I’m not vlogging, but it’s just to sit there in a quiet little place where you’re right next to some strangers and start chatting about what you’re eating to your camera is too awkward, guys. But never mind. I’m going to find a place. This is uh not my first time in this situation. So yeah, I’ll get what I want. Maybe over here in the party area of the arcade. Don’t even know what this is all about. I think it’s like uh the guy’s having a great old time, but uh I thought it was live music, but it’s recorded. So, I’m going to keep talking to avoid the copyright strike, guys. Ah, Japanese barbecue yakaniku. So, it’s like you get that on your table and you cook your own. I think it’s like one of those. You get like a grill in the center and you cook your own. Yeah, maybe I’m up for that. I would definitely get my own table at one of those places. Yeah, I think it’s up here. Which one is it? This looks like sushi. This looks like Indian. Oh, wow. An Indian restaurant. Vishnu. I can smell it. It smells like an Indian restaurant. That’s surprising. I haven’t seen too many of them when I’ve been in Japan. So, where’s the Wagu at? Definitely not going to get beef. Definitely not going to get beef at the Indian restaurant, am I? Unless they’re from Kerala. The car likes to likes their beef. Oh, there is a gacha. Okay, I’ll save that till after after I got munch. I’ll come and play the uh I’ll come and play the gachas. I’m sure I’ll find something interesting. And amongst all that, what’s this saying? Go through the automatic door on the right and turn left. the automatic door on the right and turn left. Ah, so it’s outside. Really? No wonder I couldn’t find it. It’s actually a sign inside for a place outside. Turn left. This or this? I guess it’s this. Yak. I don’t even know if they’ve got Wagyu. I was just assuming some of that would be Wagyu. I’m going to have to translate the menu. Oh, this is a proper tiny little uh Oh, it’s absolutely tiny. If I can uh if I can do this. Yeah, I translated it. This is A5 black Wagu beef right here. So, you can tell it’s Wagyu from the marbling. It’s like a really fatty beef, but it looks very cozy inside. I think that table is just for smoking. And yeah, they literally have three tables in like a bar area. Should we go for it or not? You can sit here. Uh, one person. It’s okay. Can I sit here? It’s okay. No. Okay. Here. Okay. Ah, I’m sitting here on this. Okay. Okay. Thank you. It’s okay. Camera. Okay. It’s okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Thank you. Okay. They said the camera is okay. Order. Yes. QR order. Okay. Okay. All right. So, the menu is in Japanese, but I’m using the translation on the browser, and there’s all sorts of Wagyu. There’s like Wagyu beef, just the right amount or just the right amount of lean Wagyu beef. That’s how it’s translating it to. So, I don’t know if I order that. That’s just that’s just the right amount for like one portion or or like a full meal or what? Well, there’s no pictures, so I can’t get an idea of the portions or whatever. um like this. There’s no there’s no picture or anything. Okay. So, that’s what I’ve ordered. It’s like Wagyu beef, Wagyu beef ribs, and thinly thinly sliced Wagyu beef. So, like different varieties of Wagyu beef coming to 2,600, which is like I don’t know like 17 $18 or something like that. Yeah. So, I don’t know how much you get for it. Can’t be that much wagu you get for like 17 or 18 bucks. But I’ll place the order and we’ll see what turns up and I guess it won’t take long because I think they’re just bringing the the raw meat and I’m I’m doing the cooking. So, I expect it’ll be coming. They just be taking out the fridge and slapping it on my table. Okay. So that’s my veggies that I decided to order. And these are my three portions. So one of them was ribs. One of them was just wagu and one of them was thinly sliced wagyu with two different kinds. That one looks like bacon. Wow. So yeah, these are all totally raw, guys. And I’m going to have to slap them on here with these tongs right here. So start with this. Absolutely. Glorious. Wow. And it cooks really quickly. It’s already Yeah, it’s all stuck. I think I’ve uh I think I’ve done this wrong. I think that’s what the lemon’s for. I think you’re supposed to put the lemon cuz it’s all stuck to the thing. I think you’re supposed to put the lemon on Oh my god, I’m making a mess. I think I think you’re supposed to rub Actually, I think you’re supposed to rub the lemon on it so that it doesn’t stick. I’m pretty sure that’s what it’s for. But it’s all um I’ve wrecked it. Yeah, I’ve made I’ve made an absolute dog’s dinner of this, guys. I’ve uh cuz it’s all sticking to the grill. Look, an absolute dog’s dinner. But grade A5 Wagu, the best beef you can get. And I’m uh I’m making it fit for a Doug. I see. Now that I put the lemon on, it’s much better. It’s uh it’s not sticking so much. Okay. Yeah, like that. I think it’s better to just do one piece at a time and then you can kind of like tend for it. You can look after it. Make sure it’s not getting burnt. Oh, wow. [Music] That is that is properly properly charred. Yes. And it was already marinated, so no need to. They gave me some kind of dipping sauce there. Maybe try that out later, but for now. Oh. Oh. Well, [Music] it tastes like pure like beef fat. It’s uh Yeah. It’s all fatty and tender and then crispy char grilled. Oh, wow. Oh wow. Wow. That is that is glorious. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. So I did the lemon trick first. Ah, see this time it just Wow, that’s much better. Yeah. So you guys can learn from my mistake yet again. Another mistake I make for you guys. So you come to a restaurant like this, you’ll know what you’ll know what to do with a lemon. Oh, there’s another lemon there as well. Okay, I should get a bit of veg going as well. Oh, yes. That’s perfect. The good thing about this kind of place is you’re always going to get it cured to your liking. You know, it’s never going to be over or undercooked. It’s always going to be the way you want it. And the ribs. Wagu. Wagu ri. They’ve gave me scissors for this. Yeah. I don’t really I don’t really know what I’m doing here. What the correct There’s probably a correct method and that’s not going to be the way I’m doing it. Whatever the correct method is, but yeah, it’s uh I don’t think there’s any bone in there. I guess it’s like boneless rib and I cut it into cubes. Oh yeah, this is fun actually. And this this the veggies take ages compared to the meat. Okay, let’s try it. The wagu ri that’s so ready. Oh ready already. Oh. Oh no. It’s like uh it tastes like bacon. It’s like it’s like beef bacon. So, oh, I can’t explain how tasty this is. Oh, it’s so soft. It’s It’s like just the whole thing is like you’re eating the fatty part of like a beef steak that’s tasty marinated and then char grilled. And this one is it looks like actual bacon. This is a thinly sliced one. Wow. This is going to cook so fast. I’m only going to do one piece at a time. Wow. Okay. Oh, it’s tremendous. 10 out of 10. Tremendous. It’s like, you know, if you get the sliced beef at Yoshinoya, it’s like that but a million times tastier. Oh man. Oh man. Ah, the most premium beef and your man’s dropping all over the table. Yeah, a different type. It’s still very fatty, but looks more lean. Uh, I don’t think I should have done that. I think that’s the wrong way to That’s the wrong way to do it. I’ve turned it into a ball. I should be layering out each slice. Oh man. Thank God for this extractor fan. I I’d be covered in smoke if it wasn’t for this. Okay. Well, that didn’t turn out bad at all. Yeah. That’s well cooked. M. Oh, good. So, out of all this, I would have said the first one was my favorite. The actual just It’s basically steak. Basically, the wagger steak, but the ribs and the thinly sliced ones. Also amazing. 10 out of 10 for all of it. M yum yum. And they’ve just changed my grill to a nice clean one, but I’m done. I’m not going to order anymore. I was thinking about ordering that. It looked good. I thought it was like some red pork or something. And then it comes, the translation says something lever. I think it’s I think it’s liver. I think it’s some kind of liver. So yeah, I’m I’m not going to I’m not going to bother. I’m done for now. And all that comes to $3,45 including the tax. So that is like $24. Yeah. $24 for that wagu and the vegetables and all that. The drink is free. The drink is like they don’t charge you for water. I think it’s really good value. Nice. Okay, that’s good. I would definitely come back here again, guys, for sure. I think I’ll come back one day when I’m not vlogging. I’m going to be here for a while in Kagoshima. I’m going to stick around here, but I’ll come back here and then if you guys want to visit here. I can’t tell you the name of the place. I’ll put on the screen. I’ll translate it and then put it on you on the screen. But uh another place I recommend along with that tonkatu place that I had yesterday. But now I’m going to go play the gata machines. There was a gacha area up here. And here it is. So this one usually it’s Yeah. Bandai. Yeah. Usually it’s Bandai Namco. They’re the ones that make all of these. So, the thing with these gatchers is most of it is uninteresting to me. It’s just r most random stuff. But then sometimes I see something that I like, like a product that I I buy. Not this one, but you know, if this was I don’t know, like a Mars bar or something, then I would go for it. Yeah. And I don’t like the I don’t like the ones that are just keychains. I like the ones that are like figures. And these ones are fridge fridge magnets. There’s an actual ramen one there. You can get different bowls of ramen. That is mad. Yeah. Most random the most random stuff. Like I said, a salad bowl. Literally, you can get five You can collect five different bowls of salad for for why. I don’t know. Yeah, I guess they must be keychains. Most of them are most of them are keychains. Okay. I want like some uh some characters that I know like from some video games. I seen one for Mega Man. I think they call him Rockman here. I’ve seen that in another that was in Komaamoto in some arcade, but I didn’t end up getting it. So, if I can find that one again, it’ll be good. There’s a little mythy one there. That’s like a little Dutch. It’s called something else in Dutch, but the Japanese call him my but he comes from the Netherlands or she if it’s a boy or a girl, but that’s something popular here. Ultra Man, Harry Potter. H Oh, like this little uh little costumes. Yeah, I’m not really into Harry Potter. Is that Zelda Breath of the Wild? Oh, that is so cool. Look at that. You got little uh Oh, that’ll be Yeah, those look good. They’re only 300. There’s six different ones. H, but some of them are kind of lab, but just like the like these key chains. You really You want the figures. So, there’s three figures and three like stupid things. So, it depends how good your luck is if you want the figures only. And there only seems to be a couple left in the machine. Okay. Yeah, I’m going to I’m going to go for that one. There’s Tekken eight. I think the last Tekken I played was three or something. Tekken 3. So I way I’m way behind on my Street Fighters. Ah, this is the one Street Fighter 6. I was collecting these in Fukuoka. I got Luke. Oh, the but these are different characters. The one I had had Luke and I got some Chick. Yeah. Oh, and there’s like some old comic books. Old DC comic books. Superman. Oh, that’ll be so cool. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. Now there’s nine different ones. Unless that 15 means there’s 15 different ones. Ah, there’s loads of stuff. Okay, I guess I better uh change some coins. Okay, let’s go for Zelda first. Only 300. $210. Oh, they’re tiny. They’re so small. I did get H. What did I get? Let me see. Oh, yeah. I got a Wii. I got a Wii one. I got a wee one, guys. That’s cute. They’re tiny, though. They’re absolutely tiny. Yeah, that’s what it looks like there. Tiny wee thing. Oh, what happened? It was here. It just disappeared. I think I got the last one. What? Did somebody come and do that or does it do that automatically when uh when it finishes? I don’t know if somebody came and did that quickly. Yeah, sold out. That’s all that says sold out. Wow. Okay. Well, I got the last one. Now on to not Tekken, not Street Fire, the DC Comics after doing this. See, I learned the system. I messed it up the first time I ever tried that. And now going to get myself a Superman book or a Batman. I want Superman or Batman or Green Lantern. And these are these are 400. These are a bit more expensive. They got to pay the licensing fee to DC. What happened? Something just pulled. What is this? Oh my god. It’s an actual I thought it was going to be a small Oh, it’s telling the size there. 297 mm by Oh my god, it actually came out of here. I was I was expecting a ball. That’s the first time I’ve ever seen that in a gacha machine. I got Oh, what did I get? So, something. Yeah, I got Superman. I think it’s the cover. I got the cover. Let me see. Yeah. Oh, that’s pretty cool, actually. Yeah, it’s like a It’s a poster and you can throw on your wall or frame it or whatever. Okay. It wasn’t what I was expecting, but I mean, it’s pretty cool nonetheless. Okay, fortunately, I’m rolling with a bag. Let’s see what else I might be interested in then. All the ones I was interested in were together. Like all four of them, the video, they’re all video games ones. They put them all together. And this is just random junk. Absolute random junk like pizzas and stuff, little doggos. You can even build your own Cisco routters and switches and stuff rack an actual just like Cisco. I guess this must be for absolute like networking computer networking nerds. Like who would like even if you do that for your job like why would you want that as like a toy? I guess some people are so nerdy that like setting up Cisco routters would be their hobby as well. That is insane. Absolutely insane. Oh, this one looks cute. It’s Fabashi Suttomo Matchbox Cats. So, it’s little cats inside matchboxes, and they’re all cute. So, no matter which one I get, I’m not going to feel unlucky, guys. Well, they’re five 500 for them. Let’s see which one I get. I don’t know which one I’ve got yet cuz he’s hiding in the matchbox. Okay, you ready? You ready to see this cute little Hey! Oh my god, it’s just his It’s just his feet. I don’t actually get to see the cat. Oh, he’s hiding. Does his head come up or No. Yeah, it’s just his uh his paws. He’s like a shy one. I got the shy one. Oh, he was just stuck. It was just stuck. I had to like pry it open cuz I looked at it and I’m like, it’s that one there and his head is up. So, it’s like that, guys. There we go. Cute little Matchbox cat to add to my collection of junk. I’m right next to the this thing so I can dispose of everything correctly. What else is of interest? A Winnie the Pooh chef. Is it Winnie the Pooh chef or some kind of cute costumes? And then we’ve got Disney characters doing yoga. We’ve got Winnie the Pooh on his back doing some stretches. We’ve got Is that supposed to be Donald Duck? Yeah, got Donald Duck just I don’t know saying namaste or something. Got Mickey and Stitch doing some stretches as well. Lucky I got one of these. Okay. Only 400 for them. Yeah. Okay. So, they all seem to be three, four, or 500. Oh, this one’s sold out as well. I was going to get a few of them. I got the last one. That’s the Zelda one and the Disney one. I can’t I can’t get myself a collection. I got the Mickey, though. I did get the Mickey. He comes with a He comes with a yoga mat as well. So, it’s the figure and a mat. There’s the Mickey right here. And there is his mat. Yeah, it doesn’t it doesn’t clip in or anything. I think you just they’re just separate. He’s just separate from his mat so he can move around and all that, guys. But yeah, good old Mickey. One of the OG Disney characters before before Disney went walk. one of the OG characters from good old based Walt. And that’s me done. I think I’ve spent enough on this junk, guys. Yeah, I got everything that I thought was cool out of there. There’s about I don’t know 500 machines and about five that I thought was good. So you’re talking 99% of it is absolute garbage and 1% of it is pretty cool like yoga Disney characters. And now I’m going to have a look in here. The Suru Gaia specialty store. Somebody told me when I got the Famitsu magazine in a previous vlog. It’s a souvenir. Oh, it’s about to close. That I might be able to get like classic issues here. I don’t know what these guys are on the photos. Usually in most countries, those would be shoplifterss, but a lot of them seem to be smiling, guys. So, yeah, these types of shops, it’s like Book Off and there’s a bunch of shops like that. that they sell like secondhand um like collectibles and books, manga books and trading cards and stuff. And this is on this one is huge. This one’s on multiple floors. So these are all like Yeah, some of them are cheap like trading cards and stuff and some of them are like special ones and are more expensive. Ah, this area does have books, photo books, hobby books, comics, doin. What about magazines? What about video game magazines, guys? Ah, here I see video game. It’s not a very not a very big section. There’s Nintendo DS, the perfect catalog. So, I guess like a encyclopedia of Nintendo DS games. Probably every DS game that was released, but there’s not much. There’s more video games here. Uh, let me see. Some Pokemon thing. Oh, there’s some classic. There’s some old some old old I don’t even know how old that would be. That, but that’s 7,000 yen. It’s some ancient some ancient magazine. Are these together or what? Mega Drive. A Mega Drive magazine. 480. Well, that was the original price. It was originally 480. Now it’s it’s it’s 10xed in price because it’s an antique. A Mega Drive. In the US, they call that the Genesis, but it was called the Mega Drive. In the UK, I had one. Amazing. the golden era of video games. The 8 bit 16 bit era. That was the golden era, guys. So, yeah, maybe I’ll get something like this. Classic episode CD ROM volume 2. What even is that? What is that video game NEC? I think that’s the PC Engine. It was called the Turbo Graphics in America and they did they didn’t bring it out in the UK but it was really popular in Japan and was really unpopular in America. The PC Engine by NEC. More video games here. Got Call of Duty there. And we’ve got Don’t know what that is. We’ve got GameS ancient game issue number 76 from September 1992. I was selling that for 1,700. It’s a bit more reasonable. And this one’s only 880. That’s really cheap. It’s a It’s a thin one. And this is Well, it’s cheaper. So, it must be older. 480 yen. Yeah. This is like from the 80s or something. Must be from the 80s. Yeah. Issue 15. So, it’s like Yeah. It’s uh 61 episodes before that. So, that’ll be like 1987. Wow. Yeah, I guess I’ll get these two. That’s pretty cheap. Two between the two of them. That’s like 25,580. So that’s just like, you know, like 17 18 bucks for That’s a pretty good souvenir from Japan. I would say some 80s and 90s golden era of video games magazines, guys. And yeah, I want those other ones as well, the ones that were way more expensive, but uh yeah, I’m trying to think about yeah, the space in my suitcase or whatever. Um I’m probably going to like like I said before, probably going to end up buying a second small suitcase to buy all the excess. I I’ll just get this for now. That’s pretty cool. I I’ll I’ll be pretty happy flicking through these guys, 80s and 90s gaming magazines. Okay, guys. Let’s grab another ice cream from another comini and do another taste test and have a flick through these old gaming magazines back in your man’s hotel room, shall we? Yes. Yes, we shall. In fact, if we’ll jump into here, the AC coup right next to my hotel. That’s my hotel right there. And this is the fairly decent size supermarket with all sorts of good stuff that’s right next to my hotel. So, I remember they have an ice cream cabinet in there and they’re open for another half an hour. So, we’ll grab something out of there rather than the comini this time. And they start reducing everything at this time. So like the sashimi I can get at half price. It was originally 700 and now 325. This is the ice cream section here. Yeah. Bunch of good stuff. But what do we go for? I think the melon. Palm Palm melon bar. That looks good, doesn’t it? Looks like ice cream on the outside and like melon sorby on the inside. Okay. Sashimi and melon ice cream. Good little evening snack. Let’s try the parm. There is no harm in the palm, guys. And according to Google Translate, this 6% is red melon and the 8% is green melon. So you get a total of 14% is real melon in the parm. And I don’t know the the title at the top is just some gibberish. Some things just don’t translate translate well from Japanese to English and vice versa, guys. But let’s give the palm no harm ice cream a try. Oh wow. Oh. Oh. So the outside is like a chocolate. It’s like a melon chocolate. M. And the inside is like a a creamy ice cream. A creamy like cantaloupe flavored ice cream. It tastes very cantaloupy. M. Oh. So m it’s got the the the melan chocolate is like a it’s got like a white chocolatey kind of a creaminess to it as well. And uh I think it’s two different ice creams that are inside. You got the the red one and the green one. And they’re kind of the red one’s kind of mixed in there with it. Oh wow. That is uh that is proper. Oh yeah. Now let’s have a flick through these gaming magazines. And they look in good condition. All the books and magazines in that shop seem to be in good condition. Do Japanese people just keep their stuff in good condition or what? Or does that shop only accept the good condition ones? I’m trying to get it out without getting the cellar tape on the magazine. Oh, yes. Oh, yeah. It looks like it’s brand new. It literally it’s got the card and it looks like it’s brand new, guys. It’s flawless. Wow. So check it out. And Japanese magazines, they open right to left like that. So it’s like the back is the front basically. But yeah, look at it. Like all the pages are in pristine condition. The cards and stuff are all Yeah. Looks like it’s, you know, straight out the printing press. It’s brand new, but it’s old. This is from 1992. So absolutely ancient 33 years. There’s a section on arcade games there. Bubble trouble. Final lap 3. Yeah. Telling you about what new games are coming from the likes of Capcom. Yeah. The Neo Geo. Yeah. I didn’t know anybody who owned a Neo Geo. That was like way too expensive. But it was like arcade quality. Yeah. And the cartridges were like this size. Uh, basically a Neo Geo home console was basically the same technology from the arcade. Each cartridge was like an arcade board. Yeah, I think this magazine. It’s all arcade games. Everything’s an arcade game. VR racing. Oh, you remember that? I think they ended up bringing it out in the 32X on the Mega Drive with the add-on. The 32X add-on. Uh, Golden Axe. Oh, Golden Axe. An absolute classic. Yeah, that started off as a Sega arcade game before they brought it to the Mega Drive. That was a good game. Yeah, Street Fighter 2. Whole section on Street Fighter 2, Undercover Cops. Yeah, guess they’re telling you all the different combos and stuff like that. So kids back then would read the magazine and go to the arcade and flex our new skills battling and Street Fighter 2. And this one even older from 1987. Wow. Yeah. The 15th ever issue of this magazine. So it would have probably started in 1986 cuz this is 1987. And you know, let’s see what video games or what arcade machine games were popular back then. What one is that? I don’t even know what Oh, what is that? Oh, I can’t remember the name of that, but I think I know what it is. Yeah. And yeah, most of it’s in black and white or monochrome, green, white, like an old Game Boy. But uh yeah, the whole thing. Oh, wait. There’s some color here. Yeah, Gemini wing. I don’t know that one. Don’t know this one. Oh, I know this one. Rainbow Islands. Oh my god, that is a classic. I’ve still got the theme tune for that stuck in my head, guys. Yeah, you jump and a rainbow would come out and you could jump on the rainbow and the rainbow would fall down and everything underneath it you would grab and you could kill enemies that way as well. You’d like jump a rainbow would come over him and you jump on the rainbow and flatten the enemy. What an absolute classic. Rainbow Island. So, it would have just came out. People would have heard about it through this magazine and rushed to the arcade center to go and play it. Rainbow Islands. What else? Heavyweight champ right there. Yeah, that was that was what it looked like. The machine some baseball game. I don’t know. Don’t know what that one is. What else? Yeah, that’s good. Yeah, I’m going to get more of these magazines. I’m going to get more of these magazines before I leave. It’s uh that’s a nice thing to flick through. Even I can’t read the words. I can see the pictures and then I can just use my phone. I can scan my phone over it to read what I need to read. Guys, while I’m chilling in my hotel room, I’m going to be chilling here a while longer. And I know I did say that that volcano I would go and visit it during this vlog, but I feel like this is the end of the vlog, guys. So, what I’m going to do is I’m going to end the vlog and then I will start a new vlog. I want to go there and cycle around it. I don’t even know if I’m allowed to do that. Apparently, there’s a level three warning right now, which means it’s spitting out rocks and stuff and you can only get so close when there’s a level two or a level three. I think there’s five levels of warnings. whether it’s level two or level three, they start restricting how close you can get to. I know level two, you can’t go within one kilometer and level three is more restrictive than that. So, the whole island doesn’t even look that big. So, I don’t know if they’re actually still letting people go to the island and, you know, tour around it and all that. But, if I can, I’m going to go there and yeah, I’ll do the loop. It’s a bit bigger than that last island that I did the loop off on the bicycle, which was like a 12 km loop. But this one apparently is 36 km and takes by bicycle like 4 hours. So for your man vlogging stopping at every vending machine to try whatever Choco ice cream bar looks tasty, maybe it will be like 5 hours or 6 hours. So it’s a whole day adventure, guys. So I feel like I’m going to leave that for another vlog. So if I do it, that’ll be the next video. And if I don’t do it, that means I was just chilling and eating Wagyu Yakaniku and ice cream bars and buying gaming magazines and wasn’t vlogging it. And I went somewhere else and did somewhere else and did something else and that’s the next vlog. But it’s all good guys.

I travelled from Kumamoto to Kagoshima by Shinkanzen bullet train in just 45 minutes. The same journey by car would have taken 2.5 – 3 hours, so rail travel is definitely the way to get from city to city in Japan.

I checked into the Sheraton hotel in Kahoshima and got a slight upgrade. I saw when I was booking the rooms that there were no suites available, so the Marriott Titanium status wasn’t going to bag me such a nice upgrade like the one I had in Nagasaki.

I did book the cheapest room which has no view, and was upgraded to the same room layouot but on a high floor with a stunning view of Sakurajima, the volcanic island next to Kagoshima. That room is in a higher category and usually costs an extra $40 a night.

After getting settled in and stocking up the mini-bar for later, I headed out for a bit of an explore. I went up a big Ferris wheel but the view of Sakurajima was obscured by its own smoke. It’s very active and last erupted a few months ago. Still, I plan to go over and visit it at some point.

My first dinner in Kagoshima was a local speciality, the famous black pig Kurobuta that is known as ‘the wagyu of pork’. I had it as Tonkatsu, which is a deep-fried breaded pork cutlet, at a very friendly local restaurant, and it didn’t disappoint. The Kurobuta tonkatsu was soft, juicy and packed with flavour. Yum yum.

The next day I explored some of the history of Kagoshima, or what used to be the Satsuma Domain, by visiting Sengan-en, the home of the old Samurai lord of the Shimazu clan who once ruled here.

It was a beautiful and scenic estate and there weren’t many tourists there so I enjoyed exploring it in peace.

I tried a famous local sweet there called Jambo Mochi, which is a very chewy rice flour snack covered in a sweet miso syrup. It’s kinda sweet and savoury at the same time. The samurais used to stop by at Sengan-en to pick up Jambo Mochi before heading off on their travels, so it’s a very traditional snack around here.

Back in Kagoshima city centre, I visited a yakiniku restaurant. Yakiniku means ‘grilled meat’ in Japanese and is a style of dining where bite-sized pieces of meat, seafood, and vegetables are grilled right at the table that has a charcoal or gas grill built into it.

Having tried ‘the wagyu of pork’ the day before, this time I tried some actual wagyu beef. And of course it was 10/10 delicious. Yum yum yum yum.

I finished off the day by buying a bunch more souvenirs from the gacha machines, and getting some nice unique souvenirs from one of those big nerdy collectables shops, in the way of some video game magazines from the 1980’s and 90’s which were in perfect condition.

By the time I leave Japan I’m gonna need an extra suitcase just for all the souvenirs.

My plan for the next vlog is to visit Sakurajima, the beautiful volcanic island that I’ve been looking out onto from my hotel room every day.
