Getting around rural Japan

Readers may notice that many of these rivers are located in the countryside. While Japan’s public transit network is well developed, even in many rural areas, oftentimes a personal car is the easiest way to get around! Many travelers to Japan can rent a car and drive around with an international driver’s license; however, if you have a license issued by France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Monaco or Taiwan, you will need an official translation.
