Summer in Shikoku | From Marugame, Kochi, Tokushima to Takamatsu
Welcome to our Vlog in Shikoku We are spending a week here After landing at Takamatsu, we rented the car for the road trip We will stop by Marugame tonight Other than udon, Marugame is known for Unagi This is the Traditional Unagu grilled and glazed with a sweet, soy-based sauce (tare) This is the Shirayaki Unagi Shirayaki Unagi is grilled plain, seasoned only with salt (Eating…) There is a self serviced vintage clothes store right next to the restaurant All the clothes are lined up according to the colours just like rainbow Self serviced clothing stores seem to be a trend here Finding Nemo Jellyfish time The most famous spot at Shikoku Aquarium Let’s see what Kir got…. K: Octopus K: Octopus K: and Octopus We are staying at Super Hotel Marugame tonight Super Hotel is a hotel chain and they offer different free items at each hotel Here at Marugame they offer free udon at night! It actually tastes very good Good morning friends, welcome to day 2 Enjoying a bit of Marugame before we head off Marugame Castle is right there We got a lot of outdoor adventures today but the weather is not optimal We came here early and we are the only one here We are really the only one here and we got them to just explore and explore They got Senbon Torii here too hello there! They kept following us and this is the reason It is about to rain and time to go After a one hour drive we arrived at Kotohira An old town and shopping area Getting ready for a long hike up hill Kotohiragu is located at 1,709 ft halfway up Mount Zōzu A total of 1,368 steps to the inner shrine Raining and the heat is making this hike challenging we are only half way there There are two Shinme, the God’s horse, at the enclosure time for more hike and stairs J: How are you doing? K is now speechless after around 1000 steps J: You can’t say a word now K: It is still manageable but my feet is in pain one last mile and we are there one step by one step We made it up top to the Gohon-Gu It is very calm here despite the rain They got a festival for dogs as well J: How are you again K: My sweat is still dripping Time to head down for lunch! Our first official udon meal here in Marugame Tempura and udon are good match Cold Udon with lemon during summer is refreshing J: Wait? What happened how come the whole shrimp is still there K: I left the whole shrimp on the plate As you may aware, the places in Shikoku are spread out It will take us another 2 hour drive to the next spot K’s sleep cam as usual We will take the sight seeing boat here Walking down the dungeon to the pier We can imagine this looks 100 times better with no rain Water is still green-bluish which looks great Here we go! They got different names for the rocks We agree to come again in either spring or autumn season The view here should be stunning K reserved this charcoal grill place in Miyoshi Celebrating the end of Day 2 J can only get Cola as he is the driver The steak here is high quality Charcoal is adding a lot more raw flavour to the meat We are discussing why there is no the sizzling sound While J suspect its the temperature that matter Cooking K time… Japanese grill always top our rank We are heading further south to Kochi today Visiting a botanic garden and their festival K’s sleep cam 2.0 This botanic garden home to more than 3,000 varieties of plants Exhibiting the achievements of world-renowned botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino J: What do we have here K: It got a sharp end at the edge There are a few exhibitions and showrooms in the Garden This library stores botanic related magzines and textbooks quite a few books about Dr Tomitaro Makino This exhibition is dedicated to Dr. Tomitaro Makino the “Father of Japanese Botany” Here is the exhibition of seeds Storing variety of plant seeds inclduing those with weird and funny shapes This seed has a lot of hooks which we can use it as a dart The Greenhouse is at the further end of the Garden The Botanic Garden is located in a forest area We have to pass through these narrow paths to access the whole place Time to go! Everyone at the Koichi City Centre is queuing to view the dance Today is a public holiday and most of the shops are closed We stopped by this place with Katsuo Let’s enjoy some short clips from the Traditional Dance By far we enjoy this group the most They have a few chapters within the dance With different arrangement and they are so energetic There is a flag raiser at the end of each group They are so strong The is the view from our hotel last night Overseeing the sea next to Anan City Odaka is a traditional style restaurant Chef Okada was from Takayama They serve traditional dishes from Tokushima This is Chef Okada serving us the set lunch K: We had a lot of food this morning including one third of yesterday’s dinner Then we had some small talk, listened to some musics took a short nap Now we are eating again I am so full right now After the meal, we are heading up to Bizan by the cable car The cable car runs every 15-20 minutes You have to get tickets at the Awa Odori Museum Bizan Park is famous for its panoramic views of Tokushima City, the Yoshino River and the Seto Inland Sea It is especially vibrant during the spring cherry blossoms season Tsurugiyama Shrine is right next to the Park A long drive under the heavy rain back to Takamatsu After we checked in and parked our car We can get loose and explore Takamatsu City Centre The city centre is linked by the shopping hallway J is ready for some street photography J: What are you doing? (Please interpret by yourself) J: what are we having for dinner tonight? K: I have no idea too. We need to wait for confirmation Grilled bone-in chicken leg is a popular dish in Takamatsu It is called Honetsukidori in Japanese We started with some standard izakaya dishes The main dish for the night They look juicy and well cooked It’s a great meal and here is the end of Part 1 of our Shikoku Trip Give us a like and subscribe if you like our video See you next time!

We spent a week of our summer in Shikoku, exploring 3 perfectures and 4 cities. The weather isn’t great but we enjoyed the amazing views and nature from Marugame, Kochi, Tokushima and Takamatsu.
