How To Get Tickets For The GHIBLI MUSEUM

So, you want tickets to the Gigibly Museum, see Kiki, Todoro, and all your favorite Gibli movies, but then you find out that tickets sell out within a couple of seconds. Well, in this video, I’m going to guarantee you a spot within the Gibly Museum when you come to Japan. And this is going to be the only video that you’re going to need to guarantee a ticket. Okay, so we’re back at home now. Getting Gibly Museum tickets is going to start right at your computer or your phone. Now, the first order of business is actually going to the right website, but also going to the right place. This is not Gibli Park. This is not the Gibli Studio. This is Gibli Museum. You’d be surprised at how many people mix that up. Now, the website you got to go to, I’m going to include it on the screen, but also in the description so that you can’t get mad at me for sending you to the wrong spot. Now, when you go to the Gibly Museum website, you’re going to see prices for the tickets. It’s about 1,000 yen for most adults, which is about $6 or $7. But how you actually get the tickets, there’s going to be two options, one of which you only care about. The sales online by Lawson ticket option and the special bus tour by the Sunrise. We’re not going to worry about the special bus tour. You’re going to click the loss in ticket option. Now, here is the most important part that you got to know before you get tickets. The way that the Giblly Museum does tickets is through this thing called a reservation. And reservations to get a ticket go on sale for one day for a whole entire month. And that day is on the 10th of every single month at 10:00 a.m. Tokyo time the prior month. So, to give you an example, if you want to go to the Gibling Museum at any time during December, you have to get your tickets on November 10th at 10:00 a.m. Tokyo time. And I keep saying Tokyo time because that’s going to be a totally different time than if you’re here in the States. And I’ll convert all the times for you, but before I do, here are all the days that the tickets go on sale for the next month. So, here’s all the times that it’s going to be converted to, at least in October. This is not considering daylight savings time. For Pacific Standard Time, it’s going to be 6:00 p.m. on October 9th. This is why you got to know the time conversion. Also, worry about daylight savings time in case you’re doing this at a different time. Now, here’s where you can kind of strategize and plan out what day and time you want to go to the Gibb Museum, even before you go and get tickets because the museum is going to be open every single day except for Tuesday. And on some days during specific months, because maybe they’re renovating or something like in November, they block off a whole entire week. And for each day the museum is open, there’s going to be four different time slots that you can try to get tickets for. There’s going to be 10:00, there’s going to be 12:00, there’s going to be 14:00, and there’s going to be 16:00. Now, the availability for the tickets right next to the time is going to be represented by a shape. If there’s tickets available, it’s going to be represented by an O. If there’s going to be few tickets made available, it’s going to be represented by a triangle. And if there’s no more tickets available, it’s going to be represented by an X. All right, first tip is that if you can help it, try not to get tickets during the weekend. Now, if that’s the only day that you can go is on Saturday and Sunday, then that should be fine. But the next piece of advice that you’re probably going to have to take is that don’t try to bother trying to get a 10:00 or even a noon time slot. Because from my experience, I haven’t even seen a triangle next to those time slots, let alone a circle. You’re always going to have 4:00s available. If 4:00 is the only available time for the day that you want to go, then go for that. But if you can be flexible for the day and also the time, I would highly recommend going for the 2:00 or 1400 time slot for a weekday. You can get through the museum in about 2 hours. However, if you want to stay longer and also you want to go to the cafe at the end of the day, the cafe closes about 45 minutes to half an hour before they close. So, going for that 4:00 time slot is not ideal. Whereas 2:00, that will give you enough time to experience everything that you want to see. But now that you know what website to go to and what time the reservations go on sale and how the reservations work, now you got to know what time to go to the website. There’s a lot of hoops. I’m sorry. So, even though tickets do go on sale at 10:00 a.m. Tokyo time, you do want to go to the website about 20 to 15 minutes beforehand because when you go and scroll down to the lost and ticket English option, you’re going to be put in a waiting room. This is not a queue to get tickets, but rather a waiting room to get in line to get tickets. If it sounds ridiculous, it’s cuz it is. Like, that’s why I’m making this video, so you can be prepared. But now that we have almost 5 minutes until the tickets go on sale, now I want to show you the most crucial part when trying to get Giblly Museum tickets. And that is not to use just one computer, but multiple computers at your disposal. And the reason for my overkill of amount of computers is because the way that the Gibli Museum handles these reservations is kind of lame. It’s based on a lottery system. So, even though you can show up right away at 10:00 Tokyo time, you’re randomly going to be put in line to actually buy the tickets, and you can be placed anywhere from place 500 all the way to 12,000, depending on how many people are actually there to get tickets. So, the more devices, the marrier, but more than likely, you’re not going to be like me where you have multiple computers and a dog to try to help you out. You’re more than likely watching this on your phone, which you can also get Gibli Museum tickets with. And if you have a partner or a brother, sister, family, they can also use their device to get everyone in your party tickets. You don’t have to get your own ticket. They can book everybody’s ticket to a maximum of six. Now, the next tip that I can give you is also come prepared. There’s going to be two things that you need and that is going to be your passport because you’re going to actually need to fill in some information that requires your passport and also a credit card. This is a Dunkin Donuts gift card, but I didn’t want to leak my information. You get what I’m trying to do. If you have Google autofill with your payment information, this go by a whole lot quicker, too, because again, it’s all going to be about quickness. And we have about a minute until the tickets go on sale. So, we’re going to wait until the reservation queue pops up. 3 2 1 and we are in place. Let me try to refresh one of these computers to see just to show you the difference. So, on my main computer, I got placed 4544. And on my phone, I got placed in the 17,000s. And funny enough, that’s not even my best place. Remember my three computers that my dog helped me with? On my Mac, I got placed in 3,385. On my other computer, 4,457. And on this computer, I got 7,998. Now, just to give you an idea as to how bad of a placement that 1,700 is, really, if you get placed anywhere above 12,000, you’re probably not going to get tickets. If you get placed from zero to like about 4,000, you can probably get the day and the time that you want. From 4,000 to 8,000, you can probably get a day, but maybe not the exact time that you want. 8,000 to 12,000, you’re probably going to be getting that 1,600 slot on the worst day that they offer, which is probably going to be like a Thursday or something. All right, so I’m on my Mac. Uh hopefully the screen recording works so I can show you how we actually enter and try to get tickets. [Music] Nice little jingle. Let you know it’s your turn. And you hit agree. You hit next. And then you scroll down. You select. You select the bottom. And oh my god, there is not a lot of days available. So, we’re just going to go for let’s do Thursday at 1,400 because that has have a circle right next to its name. And well, if it has a circle, there’s going to be a a lot more tickets. We’re going to choose one ticket because I’m one person. Now comes my personal information that I’m going to be blocking off. My phone number. And then we got to drag the guitar over here to prove that I’m not a robot. Okay. What if you didn’t know what a guitar is? Go down. Electronic tickets. Credit card. First and last name. Put that US arriving. Hanita is the one I always go to. And then Hanita. And then it’s our credit card information. And then boom, we have our credit card all entered in. the purchase and the credit card cannot be used. Sick. That is Oh my god. That’s a good example of what might happen if you try to get tickets in Japan. They’ll think it’s fraud. And well, I even got a notification on my phone saying, “Hey, is someone trying to use my card?” No, I’m trying to use my card. But unless I got the ticket to show you how this is going to work. Now, I got the age 4 to6 one because, well, that was only 100 yen. And I’m not actually going to the museum. I just did it for this example. But now, you’re going to go to the email that you actually use to get the tickets for. And it should have something like notification of complete payment. And then it’s going to have a link. You’re going to go to that link, and there you’re going to enter in your email, your phone number, and also the password. There was a section that you just entered in like a four-digit password. And here is your QR code. But you cannot, and I repeat, cannot show up to the Gibler Museum with a QR code on your phone. You have to print it out. And I did say earlier you need your passport. Well, it’s because you’re going to need to also bring your passport with you with your tickets because the passport needs to match up with the name of the group leader with your tickets. That’s all very important. But that’s everything that you need to know about getting tickets to the Gibli Museum. And if you want to see Yeah, I know. I know you’re excited, too. I know. If you want to see more Japan related videos, this channel is dedicated to just Japan. But until next time, actually, you want to say bye pancakes.

  1. Thank you for this video. It's really helpful. Because of this video, I can kinda prepare myself for what is going to happen and what to do step by step. Luckily with 3 devices, I get queued of 20,000, 4,000 and 800! and was able to get the Sunday 2pm slot ticket!

  2. I had 8 separate browsers on 3 computers, plus 10 more devices (tablets, smartphones) for 34 distinct browsers. My range was 1500-25,000, but I did have an 8! During my test run the prior month, I had a 700 and could get to the credit card stage, but many dates early in the month and mornings were already booked. You need to have as many devices and distinct browsers as possible open. Also, the site will fail quite a bit, but hit the back option, reload, and push through. Fortunately, it keeps your place in line. His example did not fail because he only got one ticket at a less desirable time. I hope some child did not lose out on a visit because he bought the ticket!

  3. I followed your instructions and logged in 17 minutes early. Ticket sales began at 10 a.m., and I was assigned queue number 2942. After waiting for about 25 minutes, I was able to access the website and successfully purchase a Sunday ticket for 4 p.m. in the first week of July. Thank you so much!

  4. Super helpful! I had 2 laptops each with 4 tabs that had different emails signed in. Two of the tabs were under 2k! The rest were 11-16k. My friend who was trying joined late with 24k so I bought them tickets with a second tab I had open after my first tab went through.

  5. thanks a lot man. Really saved my ass. I can additionally recommend to use Chrome, Edge and Firefox on each laptop. that increases your chances as well. did not have any malfunctions because of it.

  6. Best video I saw about getting Ghibli Museum tickets! Got them with no problem! Thanks for the excellent tutorial

  7. Thanks to you I managed to have my tickets!! 🙏🏽your explanations was really useful, help me to stay focused and not panicking

  8. Sooooo glad I watched your video. THANK YOU!! Got my tickets and can't wait!!!!! It definitely paid to have multiple devices. I started with only 2, and then decided to add in 2 more at the last minute and one of the last minute devices was about 6700th in the queue. The rest were all way too high to get tickets.

  9. Thanks a lot. You can queue the pre queue even earlier tho.
Had to wait 40 mins and got some 16:00 o'clock tickets. That's better than nothing so I'm very happy

  10. Getting my tickets tonight and this was helpful! Hoping i can get tickets since i missed out in the ghibli park! so strange you have to print your ticket lol

  11. Here's hoping we all get our tickets in 2 hours

EDIT: GOT IT! ENDED AT 3.5K HERE'S SOME REALLY GOOD HELP FOR FUTURE PEOPLE!!:

Use as many browsers as you like, I used EDGE, CHROME & FIREFOX. Open one tab in normal mode & one tab in incognito, You can end up with 6 chances per device via this method, More browsers = more chances, I also think new incognito tabs maybe an option too.

I ended up with 16 queues, MOST were 30K+ so honestly, you need as many as possibe… I got lucky & ONE out of 16 was sub 5k (3.5K), I waited 30 min & managed to get the 3 tickets I wanted.

  12. Had 2 computers and 3 phones the 3 phones were higher than 17000 while one computer was in 23000. And the last was in 66! Got the specific time and day that I wanted thank you so much!

  13. You deserve my super-mega-hyper-ultra like, because thanks to you I've got tickets for October!!!! 🎉🎉🎉

  14. Thanks to your video, I was able to get tickets for October!!! I logged in 30 minutes early and was placed at 3700. I’m still in disbelieve!! Thanks again!

  15. I had only 4 devices/tabs but managed to get two under 4000. Unfortunately, my under 2500 crashed out (I think because it was my phone). But with my other one I was able to get my tickets within 45 minutes. So a success – thank you for the video!

  16. Thank you for the video! Was able to be prepared for today's round and managed to grab a ticket! Had 7 devices running with the queue window open but I joined with a phone 2 minutes before the timer ran out and got in place 90(!). The other were anything between 15000-37000. Errors messages does appear when trying to move forward with the steps but don't panic. You still have your place in the system and just have to be patient. Eventually you'll get through and reach the end.

  17. I put it in my diary but forgot to get online at 10am. Now when my parents visit, they can't come to the museum. I'm a failure.

  18. I was online last night 30 minutes beforehand, was in the online queue for over 2 hours, and there were 3 of us using multiple devices. We did not get T____T
