But in the end, it’s really just a burrito bowl with more Japanese seasonings in the meat. I didn’t have instant hondashi on hand, but I substituted with fish sauce. Used McCormick Taco seasoning packet for posterity though.

    That’s fancier than traditional taco rice. I never tasted dashi the hundreds of times I’ve had it. It was mostly just rice, ground beef, lettuce and the most watered down tomato sauce you could still legally call sauce. Cheap as hell though.
