7 Incredible Foods You Must Eat in Sapporo, Japan! 🇯🇵
good morning from Aomori today we are heading to Sapporo all aboard the Hayabusa the journey will be split into two parts we will be making a transfer at Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto the first leg will take about an hour by shinkansen i bought a very famous ekiben at Aomori Station 24 different dishes in one box, amazing descriptions included too inarizushi with umeboshi rice the ume adds a savoury salty/sour element to the sweet inari an upgrade to the standard recipe braised scallop sweet soy dashi flavour grilled miso eggplant wrapped with shiso koji marinated salmon the koji adds additional umami, very delicious so intricate… squid menchikatsu the ekiben helped me forget we are currently travelling below the ocean yakisoba barayaki, a soul food of Aomori tender sweet and salty beef incredibly fun and delicious the most enjoyable bento i’ve ever had the next portion of the trip will take 3.5 hours by local train there were no available seats on any trains for the next 7 hours it could be worse… welcome to Sapporo! let’s get some food the famous ramen alley spicy miso char siu ramen itadakimasu i ordered some additional bamboo shoots (menma) why are there so many crisp, sweet and savoury with the distinct bamboo flavour Sapporo is famous for miso broth deep savouryness, medium richness the broth has an added smoky fragrance from the wok medium thick wavy noodles medium firmness ground meat and spice paste additional spice and flavour incredibly delicious miso ramen chili powder sichuan pepper even better extremely tender and rich sliced pork belly crunchy and fresh bean sprouts vinegar garlic x2 x3 no matter what kind of ramen i order, i always seem to end up with garlic-y
hot and sour noodles outstanding a perfect first meal in Sapporo highly recommend bowl of spicy miso ramen my char siu wasn’t grilled… alright, let’s check into our hotel pretty nice see you for dinner i see hot pot, i eat hot pot… lots of salmon, mushrooms and cabbage itadakimasu very tender and flavourful the broth is a light miso flavour crunchy enoki mushrooms wild salmon has such delicious flavour large chunks of belly as well maximum richness and tenderness konjac noodles were hiding this was an insanely delicious hot pot very light yet very satisfying i ate this several more times while in Sapporo a highly recommended and extremely healthy meal for 1200 JPY see you tomorrow we’re heading to Nijo Market for breakfast a kaisendon is a must-try in Hokkaido there are many shops selling them all over the market i chose this stall because they have mini kaisendons wow. 10/10 presentation served with some hot broth i also ordered a couple oysters itadakimasu mild fish broth a very comforting flavour premium size ikura sweet, salty and rich with a pleasant fish flavour akami i have recently learned wasabi and soy sauce are not supposed to touch very tender and lean with medium flavour about 10x more delicious than the pink blocks we get in Canada hirame (flounder) medium firmness, mild flavour the most perfect cut of salmon… …i still prefer mixing the soy and wasabi seared bonito similar to tuna but less rich and slightly more “fishy” bonito is in the same family as mackerel/tuna very fresh and very cucumber-y taste oysters in Hokkaido seem to be either extremely rich or extremely cucumber-y these were delicious but the rich ones are extra delicious hotate (scallop) buri (yellowtail) very rich with a unique tender firmness plain white rice decent with ikura minced fatty tuna maximum rich and soft amaebi (sweet shrimp) sweet, sticky and rich enormous slice of premium o-toro as rich and tender as it gets, truly melt in your mouth minced fatty tuna shiso roll rich and fragrant, very delicious an incredibly delicious breakfast i thought the oysters were 2 for 660 JPY they were kinda expensive at 660 each alright, see you for lunch our lunch budget has been reduced so we head to the basement a popular standing noodle bar tempura soba soft buckwheat noodles onion tempura the broth is dashi flavoured with dark soy sauce it looks salty but the taste is quite mild with lots of umami everyone is picking up their bowls to eat so i will do the same the shop is operated by small elderly women working at incredible speeds… my noodles arrived about 15 seconds after ordering them these are roughly the same price as instant noodles but are infinitely more delicious and nutritious can have 3 bowls of this for the same price as 2 oysters… a perfect light and cheap soba meal and a very interesting location as well time for a rare dessert magisand premium fruit and whipped cream sandwiches melon is famous in Hokkaido the fluffiest bread and lightest whipped cream extremely sweet, juicy and flavourful melon there is a tiny bit of salt added somewhere that optimizes the fruit flavour and sweetness this is unbelievably delicious and easy to eat i am glad they did not list the calories on the name tag …free coffe?? amazing by far the best fruit sandwich i’ve ever eaten (i’ve eaten 1) see you for dinner soup curry, another Sapporo must-try dish describing their dashi at least i think so, she was holding dashi ingredients triple otoshi ume lotus root sweet, salty and sour with a fruity flavour and extremely crisp texture boiled mustard greens with bonito fresh, green and bonito-y the dashi had a very complex flavour, tons of umami the lotus root was my favourite, even drank the sauce lol this restaurant was playing a lot of copyrighted music so the audio cuts in and out, sorry about that this was the grilled chicken set meal a surprisingly light looking broth but incredibly rich in flavour although dashi has a gentle flavour, it is very concentrated it even stands up to the powerful flavour of curry in a perfect balance this is like no other curry i’ve had before, extremely delicious and unique fried flatfish it was fried crispy and rehydrated in the curry another outstanding complex flavour charcoal grilled chicken thigh so tender and moist each of the individual elements are done so well… pumpkin the flavourful curry is complimented by the mild starchy squash look at how tender this chicken is… outstanding chicken custom condiments chili paste chili + pepper mackerel + pepper garlic + pepper each added another dimension of umami and spice very interestingly, these were all peppers with no salt garlic pepper was my favourite tororo kombu i actually didn’t enjoy the slimy texture this gave the curry mizuna (Japanese mustard greens) this fish was unbelievably delicious best part of the curry by far an outstanding very creative curry meal set i hope you enjoyed this video please like and subscribe if you did my food adventure from Sapporo will continue soon
