COLUMBUS, Ohio (KFOX 14/CBS 4) — El Paso native Alejandro “Alex” Zendejas scored for the United States Men’s National Team in a 2-0 victory against Japan.

Zendejas scored the opening goal of the friendly with a left-footed volley in the 30th minute.

Folarin Balogun added a second goal as the U.S. finished out the 2-0 victory. Zendejas would be named Man of the Match for his performance.

This was Zendejas’s second goal for the U.S. in his 13th appearance for his country. Zendejas plays his club ball with Club America in Liga MX.

Zendejas was born in Ciudad Juárez, before moving to El Paso as a young child.

Former El Paso Locomotive midfielder Diego Luna also featured for the U.S. on Tuesday.

The United States will play its next round of international friendlies in October against Ecuador and Australia.
