世界一酒蔵見学・青森八戸酒造夏祭り・World’s Best Sake Brewery Tour and Aomori Hachinohe Sake Brewery Summer Festival

Two Lovers of JAL+Hachinohe used our miles to fly to Misawa Airport for our beloved Hachinohe (approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes) Luckily, about 30 minutes after takeoff we caught a glimpse of Mount Fuji It didn’t look that big, but it was still impressive. Then, about an hour later, Lake Towada came into view. This expansive panorama can only be appreciated from the air. That’s why we almost always fly to Hachinohe every time we visit Now, it’s time to land. The main event of this trip was the 2021 World’s No. 1 Sake Brewery, Hachinohe Sake Brewery Summer Festival. also in order to meet Patchi, the idol you can meet the earliest in Japan, and, in order to eat the most delicious chicken wings in Japan (Daian Shokudo). (My niece from Taiwan also came here last year and enjoyed it ) we went to the largest morning market, Tatehana Wharf Morning Market Look, it’s incredibly lively! By the way, we also got to meet the 「Ikadon Family」, the market’s “tacitly approved” mascots. I think this lady is the mother? Of course, we also enjoyed some delicious limited-edition sake and seafood at Shichirinmura, our favorite Hasshoku Center. Well, we’ve arrived at Misawa Airport! Let ‘s get going to Hachinohe! First, I’ll share the Hassen Summer Kura Festival 2025, which we attended starting at 11:00 on the second day of our trip. The main venue, the parking lot along the Arida River at Hachinohe Sake Brewery it was already bustling 10 minutes before the event starte. Even though we purchased online tickets (2,000 yen per person), there was a huge line… After waiting in line for about 20 minutes, we finally got in. We exchanged our purchased tickets for the following items: an original glass, two drink tickets, a barrel of sake (sangria) or chilled amazake (sweet sake), and a tuna tasting ticket For two of us heavy drinkers, two drinks per person definitely wasn’t enough. Besides, there were so many different types to choose from. So, we bought 10 more vouchers (for an additional 3,000 yen) and headed straight to grab some drinks! Wow, there are so many people! Which one should we try first? First of all, we have sangria every year, so we won’t be drinking it this year. Here’s a video of what we had at the 2023 Sake Brewery Festival . I was planning to start with a Blue Label, perfect for summer, but ended up choosing a Black Label, which I’d never tried before. Let’s drink! Look! there it is! The summer festival’s signature feature, the Hassen Tower, a tower of sake made from Hachinohe Sake Brewery brand bottles, it is a great spot for taking photos The area next to it is the food corner, with many food stalls from local restaurants The area with the tent in the middle is a standing bar area. full of people We initially occupied a table with seats but it was sooooooo hot today. 🥵 We immediately moved to the standing bar area with the tent. We also bought some snacks to go with the drinks. Pang Pang’s favorite pickled cucumber Yakitori some chicken wings (from Daian Shokudo) that we bought at the Morning Market. Let ‘s enjoy them with the main attraction, the sake.🍶 First, let’s start with the cucumber! Pang Pang took a bite, then a sip of ice-cold sake. 🍶 Ahhhhhhhhh, soooooo delicious! 😋 Let’s drink more! This time, let’s drink lots of Blue Label just can not stop drinking To avoid overindulging, let’s try a low-alcohol version. This is “Juicy Love Apple” , made from 100% apples from Aomori Prefecture with an alcohol content of 3% only Recommended for women. After a while, my face turned bright red, but hey, it’s a once-a-year festival, so, I had to keep drinking I was soooooo happy Oh! The tiger dance has begun! I took a little video, please watch it with me. The tiger dance is found along the Pacific coast and has been passed down as a faith related to fire prevention and safe navigation. Even within Hachinohe City, the tiger dance is practiced in several areas, including Same, Minato, Konakano, and Arai, and is apparently performed during the Hachinohe Sansha Grand Festival procession. This was my first time seeing it. Taiwan has dragon and lion dances, but no tiger dance. If you look closely, you’ll see that the Japanese Tiger Dance isn’t just a dance; it also incorporates elements of masked pantomime. It’s quite entertaining. In particular, the old man who took the one sho bottole there were quite a few foreigners at this year’s festival. Non-Asian foreigners were particularly noticeable oh! They were being carried on someone’s shoulders! That’s impressive strength. A tiger has entered the crowd! For some reason, everyone is holding out their heads, pretending to let the tiger bite them, enjoying the action. According to Pang Pang’s talking, both the Tiger Dance and the Lion Dance are the same They all involve biting someone’s head for the purpose of consuming the evil spirits attached to the person. In other words, it’s considered good luck. The foreigners didn’t understand, so they tried to run away. The tiger was approaching us! This is our chance! Pang Pang held out his head, ready for the tiger to bite. Now that the evil spirits have been removed, Pang Pang is safe for life. It’s almost time to tour the sake brewery. First, at the entrance, we watch a video and listen to the instructions. After changing into slippers, we entered the brewery. First, we were introduced to the rice used in the brewery all of it grown in Aomori Prefecture! 🌾 Next, we learned about the brewery’s history and the master brewer We also learned about the story behind the company’s founding brand, “Mutsu Otokoyama,” and why “Otokoyama” is found in so many breweries. Time to entered the brewery’s production area. For the next 20 minutes, we were given a tour of the brewery’s commitment and brewing characteristics. The most surprising thing was this, this! Amazing! This tank! Brewing takes place during the cold winter months, so now is the only time you can see all the way to the bottom. Even though no sake has been brewed, you can smell the aroma of sake. Finally, the climax! Yes, it’s time for a tasting! I am so thirsty. Let’s have a drink! What kind of sake is it? with8000 Junmai Ginjo 2025, made by members of the Hachinohe Sake Brewery Membership Association, “with8000.” It was quite delicious. Shall we join the group? After the tour, the tuna cutting show had just finished and they were handing out the tuna, so we quickly took out our vouchers, picked up a plate, and added a little soy sauce and wasabi. Perfect 👍 Let’s eat 😋 How does it taste? Apparently Pang Pang does not like tuna here very much, but I enjoyed it very much Next, what shall we drink? Let’s go to Renga(Brick) Bar We’ve been here before when I toured the sake brewery in 2023. It’s so lively. They only have premium brands and limited editions, with detailed information in both Japanese and English. Which one should we try? Let’s try the 250th anniversary bottle ♪ A fresh aroma like white grapes wafts through the air. A juicy, refreshing taste reminiscent of muscat and summer mandarin oranges. It was delicious! Aren’t these the labels on the sake? And you can have as much as you want! This is the last one, so I have to get it! I’ll hang it on my wall. Finally, a commemorative photo with Toji, Mr. Shinsuke Komai, and one with Managing Director, Mr. Shusuke Komai . There’s also a gift shop, but it was so crowded I didn’t go in this time I once stopped by the gift shop after a tour of the brewery in March 2023. I was impressed by the lineup in this refrigerator. I bought the “Brewery Limited Junmai Daiginjo” and Hachisen’s “Sake Kasu Donuts,” which are only available here They were all delicious. They also sell Hachisen character and related merchandise. the sake cups and cold sake glasses with the Hachisen logo . I especially love this Tsugaru glass. Brewery tours are available all the time, even not in the summer festival. The reception is located just in other side of gift shop in the area used as the “Brick Bar” during the summer festival. You can get a closer look at the history of Hachinohe Sake Brewery and the culture of sake. After the tour, a tasting session is also held here. Incidentally, five tastings are included for just 500 yen, sometimes you can even drink more than five. For example, when we visited in March 2023, there were only four visitors, so I was able to sample six different types of sake! Of course, I also drank the Junmai Daiginjo sake, a brewery-exclusive offering. It’s a rare treat that can only be enjoyed by visiting the brewery. But the most precious thing is the Hachinohe Sake Brewery’s buildings. They’re designated as “Registered Tangible Cultural Properties” by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and “Important Landscape Buildings of Hachinohe City.” For example, the “North Storehouse,” a roofed building completed in 1916, is an attic space where tools and documents from the past are usually stored. It’s now sometimes rented out to local residents, where it displays artwork and serves as a living space. They also explained the ingenious design details of every corner of the building. For example, this door is made with bamboo and straw, which apparently provides a dehumidifying effect. The wisdom of our ancestors is truly amazing. Apparently, this gate was constructed using heavy stone to prevent flooding . Try moving the door you’ll feel its weight for yourself. Hachinohe Sake Brewery is a must-visit for anyone who loves sake and architecture. It’s a long story, so why not come and visit the brewery? Please subscribe to our channel. See you in the next video!
