Alone in Hokkaido | Day 2 | Biei & Furano

Hello everyone Today we will be leaving Asahikawa And going to Biei, then Furano It takes around 1 hour using the train I prebooked all my train tickets On the JR east website And I got them all at the start of this trip So I don’t have to deal with train tickets again And I’m guaranteed a window seat everytime hehe We made it to Biei! But first, toilet I purchased a bus tour called Biei View Bus Since the attractions in Biei are quite far apart And I can’t rent a car, i figured this is the best option Got my ticket That’s our bus! And this is our route Shirogane Blue Pond – Shirahige Waterfall – Shikisai-no-Oka – Shinei-no-Oka The bus is about half full Setting off! The entire bus tour will only take 3 hours And stops at the attractions are quite short So we have no time to waste! The guide is explaining that Biei is a predominantly agricultural town with about 15% of its total area devoted to farming Can you see it? Wow it’s so blue The guide said we’re lucky that it’s still so blue Despite the rain earlier this morning This is a man-made pond created to protect Biei from volcanic mudflows The water of Shirogane Blue Pond isn’t truly blue in itself It looks blue because of a light-scattering effect, similar to why the sky appears blue Doesn’t it look super pretty? As always, the snack stall is on theme Everything is blue! Getting blue tea This is not just pond water, is it? Let’s go to our next destination Which is the Shirahige Waterfall Shirahige means white beard It is called this because the white streams are supposed to resemble wispy beard Um… … Apparently rain earlier made the water muddy and brown It’s usually blue πŸ˜… At least the sky is pretty Unfortunate that we don’t get to see it’s full beauty I think it will look the best in winter though I hope it doesn’t rain again until the end of our trip I’m starting to get hungry… On the road again~ We are going to Shikisai-no-Oka One of the many flower gardens we’ll visit today hehe The whole garden is 140,000-square-meter So the guide recommended to take the tractor bus ride For those who want to see all of the scenic spots Since we only stop here for 35 mins I’m going to skip that though because I’m starving πŸ˜… I’m eyeing the sausage… Time to eat~ Saw a better place to sit I got venison sausage and sweet potato croquette Should’ve eaten breakfast πŸ˜… but oh well Trying to figure out how to open the sauce Don’t worry I’ll get there… Oops These are pretty good, especially the croquette Okay, time to see the flowersπŸ˜… There are about 30 varieties in full bloom from early May to early October There is also an alpaca farm, but not enough time to see that We have arrived at Shinei-no-Oka Observatory Park It’s a small park, but you get 360Β° view The hay bale figures here are so cute There are shops selling coffee and ice cream Going to take picture with the figure πŸ˜„ It’s annoyed with me already… The sky is so beautiful Inside the shop I think they have a farm? If you come here, you should try the milkshake We’re back at the Tourist Info Center And I got tomato juice that I’ve been eyeing from before the trip Still some time before my next train, so let’s wait here I got melon sour beer Very yummy Bicycle parking space Something that I never see back home πŸ˜… We are going to Furano after this There are two more flower parks that we are going to visit there I’m actually going to Nakafurano instead of Furano station Because it’s closer to the flower parks My hotel is also near this station I’m going to the hotel first to drop my bag As usual, let’s get the guide Furano city has a population of about 20,000 people And it is sparsely populated Which will be obvious in this video πŸ˜„ But it is said that tourism has blossomed recently Oh, look! Butterfly! Japanese people have the most intricate gardens Kinda jealous of this garden πŸ˜… Walking uphill to the hotel Don’t know why but this feels kind of nostalgic Lots of cool looking houses(?) around Made it to the hotel This hotel has great reviews and is close to the flower parks No one is here… I’ll just drop my bag and go Currently around 27c Our first destination is Nakafurano Flower Park 800m from the hotel Don’t have to worry about hitting my steps goal here Another cool looking house There is the reason I’m going to this park Not that many cars Let’s get a ticket first I came here to ride the chairlift πŸ˜† The weather is perfect for this Ready for the view? This is kind of hurting my butt Don’t know why this park is not crowded I think it has the best view And the chairlift is definitely a plus point I’m looking for something Have you seen it? Furano melon! Buy one get one! πŸ˜‚ Add soft serve ice cream on top I already know this is going to be good And I’m right The water here is also blue I’m walking to Farm Tomita now Hope you are not bored of the flowers yet πŸ˜… I don’t see anybody else walking haha I’m glad I am though, because look at the view! We’ve made it To vending machine factory! Just kidding, this is the melon farm A paradise for melon lovers I’m just passing by though Since I’m already full from the buy one get one melon πŸ˜‚ Everything has melon in it This is very tempting Farm Tomita is just beside the melon farm It has souvenir shops too, i got some lavender bath stuff Let’s see it from above Place is a lot more crowded than the previous flower park Hello, Mr. Bee Glad for the beautiful views I got to see today Let’s head back to the hotel This house is selling vegetables Would buy some if I had a kitchen in the room Heading out to get dinner Still almost nobody in sight Only the occasional cars Remember this? This place was recommended in the city guide From the previous vlog Was greeted by nice older lady Seems like she is the only one working here My food is here~ I got beef stew omurice Yummy! Walking back from dinner Luckily I’m not afraid of ghosts Time to turn in for the night Breakfast at the hotel Also with Furano melon! Rushing to the station after breakfast to catch my train In the next vlog, we’ll be going to Noboribetsu

  1. What was the date range for this Hokkaido trip you took? It looks less crowded so was it after summer break for Japanese students?

I prefer traveling when it’s not crowded if possible but sometimes it can’t be avoided due to over tourism. I remember leaving just as Golden Week was starting and omg the trains were packed beyond the usual pack lol.
