The NSX is the Japanese Ferrari, and then the MR2 is the “poor man’s” Ferrari (or the Japanese Lotus).
The reason for this is their mid-engine, RWD designs.
The S2000 is a gorgeous car that helped revolutionize various designs of cars (namely their suspension systems), but it will ***never*** be a *Japanese Ferrari.* the closest to that will be the NSX and then for front engine Ferrari’s the next closest would be the LFA. I hate being nit-picky about it, but the reason the NSX and the MR2 have those monikers is due to deliberate design choice which the S2000 went totally away from.
I point this out because in all honesty… there is no Ferrari that was in the same realm of the S2000 back in the day. It was an affordable lightweight performance car that could be modified into something truly terrifying, but beyond that was a phenomenal drift car due to these qualities. Something a Ferrari just isn’t going to be doing.

Awesome car, but let’s not kid ourselves here.
