From Olympic bronze to World indoor gold
Despite being just 20 years old, the Italian athlete knows he has been in the international long jump elite for a couple of seasons now. A success dictated by talent, but also by hard work in training.
“In 2024 I worked a lot and improved a lot. Last year I won the silver medal at the World Indoor Championships and maybe I told myself that I could do more, because I believe in my potential. So I did and it was beautiful. 2024 literally changed me because of the under-20 world record and the Olympic bronze medal. Really, it was a fantastic year,” he told Olympics.com.
The memories of that magical Olympic night at the Stade de France are as vivid as ever.
“The Olympic experience was amazing. I remember the Stade de France without people, it’s really strange because that day I didn’t see anything, only the pits. When you work for years for that moment, you’re there and you know you’re good and in a good shape it’s fantastic because it becomes something magical. It was incredible,” he said.
He boasts a personal best of 8.38metres, but it’s certainly not an end point.
“To break the wall of 8.40? Yes, it is a goal. We are working on it, for this year and next year. I think it is possible. The World Championships in Tokyo will be the most important event of the season.”
