Chinagu Eisa Hawaii & Naha Daiko at Okinawan Festival August 31, 2025 6
So right now we are just about ready for our next group. The next group will be Chinagu Asa Hawaii. They are a contemporary Okinawan Asa drumming club established in 2008. So I heard some people cheering. So let’s cheer for Chinagu Asa. They are a multigenerational group with grandparents and grandchildren dancing together. How cute is that? So you’ll see a wide array of performers. The club’s mission is to perpetuate and promote Okinawan culture to younger generations and the local community. Chinagua has had the opportunity to perform on the outer islands as well as Las Vegas the 9inth island, Washington DC, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, and even Okinawa. The group maintains a close relationship with its sister club Naha Daiko from Okinawa. So they will some members will be joining Chinagu Asa on stage today and four members are Sho and Yu Yoshida and Harumi and Hana Redden. They will also have around 50 members on their stage today. So they’ll bring a lot of excitement. Chinangu Asa is grateful for the opportunity to perform for you today. They will be performing four numbers. Booku Hojo Yosi Isa Hugah and Dynamic Yuk. Let’s give them a round of applause. Heat. Heat. [Music] Yeah. Heat. [Music] Yeah. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Yeah. Heat. I know. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. And I know we had a big fan group and we saw um Jacob and you can Yeah. Um we actually volunteered with Jacob earlier this year through the Cherry Blossom Festival at the HOA golf tournament. I had no idea he was so talented. I would have asked for his autograph. We did. We had no idea. And we’d like to introduce a few of the members from Naha Daiko in Okinawa and have them give a short go shai. Hi. Aloha. Okay. My name is Sh Yoshida. Call me Shai. It’s show time. Okay. I’m from Naha. Okinawa. How are you? So they are from uh this is the group from Nahiko. It has been six years since they were able to come to Hawaii and perform with um our sister group Chinagua Asa Hawaii. And so they feel very honored and blessed to be here with all of us and all of you today. and they just have so much appreciation and gratitude for every single one of you here. So, thank you very much. Have you uh what have you done since you came to Hawaii? How are you? [Music] First time many sar very far. So, while they were here, um, they actually were able to do a few number a couple number of things. They were able to perform at Pearl City Highlands Elementary after school. So, they were able to do like a little um performance there. So, that was awesome to, you know, give the local kids uh just a glimpse of how awesome Okinawan performers are. And we also had a cultural exchange, a cultural exchange amongst um Nahado Chinagua Kokumasi Daiko and Shinu Asa. And we all just kind of got together and we shared the spirit of Asa. So that was a really fun night for all of us as well. And so am just performing here on stage with us throughout the week besides getting a little sunburnt. they were very busy and very um productive. So, thank you guys. Thank you to Chinago Asa and Naha members. Thank you. And you know, you saw how lively they were on stage, but even backstage, you might have been able to hear the members who weren’t performing, doing the hi, singing along, playing their drums. It really got um everybody’s heart pumping. We have a few more announcements for you. So, if you haven’t already, be sure to stop by and check out the country store. They have a tasting corner open with free samples and they are also doing some gift with purchases. So, that’s all day today. And they’ll have different products out for you to try throughout the day. Another thing they have for free here is blood pressure screening. So, they will do a blood pressure for you. They’ll do a diabetes screening and they also have health education procedures. So, while you’re here, might as well get checked out. Um, it’s a great way for preventative healthcare. And also, you should make sure to visit the Okinawa Genealogical Society of Hawaii’s booth. Um, and we do have a special So, Ariel’s grandma is in the club. Yeah, my grandma is in uh the genealogical society club. She was here yesterday at their booth. And I know we talked earlier about the Okinawan class. So, even though we had a lot of fun in the class, we also had a history side to the class. And uh while we were in the class, John asked, you know, who here is Oki now? And we all raised our hands and he was like, okay, well, where’s your family from? And I was so embarrassed. I did I couldn’t remember. So it really the class really inspired me to go home, ask my grandma questions about our family, where we come from in Okinawa. So we are from Ginowan and Aas. I have never forgotten it since that class. So thank you, John. And I think we have the next group ready. Okay, so up next we have Shin Dance Company and MCing their performance is Colin Hoo.
