One of the Best Things We’ve Ever Tasted!
Hello, hello, hello everybody and welcome back to our Kyoto vlog series. Thank you for clicking on today’s video. We’ve got a lot of really cool stuff in store for you guys. We’re eating a bunch of food in this video, going to a bunch of different places, seeing dogs, all the sorts. It’s definitely going to be a fun one today. So, tune in and enjoy. Good morning, everybody. Welcome back to Kyoto. Uh we’re out here at the train station. It’s pretty uh traffic heavy right now, but right now we’re actually going to head down to the Pora dining station, which is right in front of us. You can’t see it, but it’s right in front of the camera. Uh and I guess there’s like noodles and there’s uh there’s plenty of protein options. It is about 12:30 in the morning here, or 12:30 in the afternoon, rather, I should say. But we’re going to head down there right now. Uh unfortunately, we do have some bad news. It is the last day here in Kyoto, Japan. Yeah, that’s that’s such a bummer. I’m so sad that we have to leave. It does make me so sad, man. But this place has been so amazing. So amazing for us so far. And so it’s like losing a loved one. This place, I don’t know if it’s that rich, but No, it’s amazing. It is It is a pretty tough loss whenever you hear instead of uh you know, when your mom says, “Oh, today’s our last day in Japan.” rather than, “Hey, Rowan, we actually just bought you an apartment so you can stay here for the rest of your days.” Uh, that’s what I was hoping to hear, but no, unfortunately, today is not that day. Uh, but again, we’re going to go ahead and go down the escalator just now, uh, so that we can head into the porta dining station like we’ve been talking about. And yeah, we will catch you guys whenever we’re down there. And we’re going to pick out a little restaurant and you guys will see what we get. We’ll start recording in there. So, we’ll see you down there. Yeah. Okay, guys. So, all of our food just got here to the table. We got a ton of food as you guys can see. Oh, watch out. That is super. Yeah, we’re going to be showing videos and pictures on the vlog to you guys right now of what we got individually. I’m excited to try this and dig into it. I haven’t heard anything about this restaurant specifically. None of us have, but we just saw it on the uh the porta what’s it called? The porta dining experience, which is basically like a little lounge. You go downstairs. You guys saw in the last clip, we got on the escalator. Literally, you go down onto the west side of the escalators and then you go straight in past the glass doors and then it’s the second restaurant on the right. You’ll see it. It uh it is in fully Japanese, so the name doesn’t actually say um whatever English name they use. Okay. You’re okay. Don’t worry. Like I said earlier, like Rowan said earlier, actually, we’re very we’re very sad because this is our last day in Japan. Okay. You got to make it last while you’re here, you know. Yeah. But here, let’s go ahead and get a little bit of a closeup on everything that we got. Okay. So, Z, what did you get here? Wait, so this is chicken with some sauce on it. Something with wasabi. Oh, yeah. It’s probably shrimp. This is chicken. My bad. That is chicken. That looks really good actually. On top of rice. This is like a teriyak dish. So yeah, I’m pretty excited about that. Super cool. And then of course I got some kurag. If everybody knows me down in the comments, you guys know I love kurag. And then it actually just came as like a little eight piece. So this is eight pieces of kurag. Um but I ordered actually a little thing of white rice on the side. It’s still steaming. I don’t know if the camera is picking all that up, but very cool. It comes with this almost looks like a little thing of hot sauce. It could be hot sauce. It could not be. Um and then yeah, we got a couple of Coke, a couple of waters here. Stay hydrated, of course. But man, I am so beyond excited, y’all. Go ahead and give them your first impressions. And I’m going to go ahead and So, I just took my first piece of this. It’s the teriyak chicken. Let me tell you that teriyak, you can taste it. It’s so good. Um, that teriyak flavor is so strong, but it’s good. There it is. Camera’s focusing. Oh man, that kaga is so hot. But if you guys can see that cross-section, it’s like pure white meat in there. Look at that. It’s actually Actually, no. I’m sorry. This is dark meat actually. It almost feels like it has a tempora batter on it rather than than like normal kurag. But I do know that obviously it is the kurag batter. It is very crispy. It almost falls right off the protein. But man, it is so fresh. Everything that is on my plate is super fresh. This I’m not sure what this is. It’s got like uh the seaweed layer over it and then it’s something fried in the middle. I think this is chicken. I think this is chicken. I’m really not sure what this is. Someone tell us. Somebody tell us. I’m about to tell you what it is after I eat it. I’m kind of worried to eat it because I don’t know what’s going to be inside, but we’re going to try it. She was like, so I would be glad to say that is fish. It’s really good. This is like I have no idea what kind of fish this is, but you guys can see there. Focus. [Music] Mhm. That’s so good. What is this? I’m going to do it. Something green. A pepper. Um, a tempora pepper. That looks like a tempora pepper. I’m going to try this temporaro pepper. I’m going to eat half of it like Rowan said and then I’m going to show you guys. Yep. That’s almost like vinegar. I like it. That is a pepper. All right. Are you sure? I like you see the cross section there. Good stuff. [Music] Do you want to review yours? So, I got a grilled chicken and rice bowl and the chicken has like um these big green onions. So, it’s like obviously like a what we call a kebab, right? It’s like chicken, green onion, chicken, green onion. And then it comes with rice. And then it comes with miso soup. And it’s also Oh, and these little tiny pickled cucumbers, which are good. They taste like ginger. Here we go. This is one of the stuff. They’re stuffed together. Here’s one of the pieces of meat. Again, I think it’s dark meat. They That’s typically their choice of meat here in Japan. It’s really good. So good. And this miso soup is so good. It’s one of the most intense flavored miso soups I’ve ever had. I’m used to like the miso that they give you at sushi restaurants. And this is way more flavorful, way more intense. It’s also a darker color. You know how like standard miso soup? I don’t think you can see it, but standard miso soup is like clear. This is like brown, but it does taste like miso soup. So, yeah. All in all, really, really good. Of course, it is so good. We also got chicken. [Music] They’re like smaller than what we’re used to in America. Look how cute. So delicious. But they are so good. These are awesome. What kind of sauce is it? I think it’s like soy garlic. Soy garlic sauce. Really good. So good. When you eat it, it’s just one bone. So it’s like it’s half a flat. Like you know how a typical flat has the two bones on each side? This is just one. So I think they just split it down the middle and give you half the flat. Really good though. Welcome back to the other side of the table. Well, yours have bone. Well, not the kurag. I just had one of these over here. I’ll show you guys actually. You guys can see that sauce that mom was talking about. Super good. Super flavorful. I actually just had one off camera. I’m going to have another one. But of course, extremely tasty. It’s actually not too hot. I was actually expecting a little bit of heat, but not too much heat. [Music] Mhm. Yeah. Not anything like super sweet. The flavor is actually right on. There’s actually a little bit of sourness on the back end. Actually, it’s almost like the initial taste is like what? Maybe panoo. Yeah, it could be panoo except that’s darker than ponu. Panu almost looks like soy sauce, but it does have that original taste of like soy garlic. What is that? This, I believe, is a tempor skewer. Like a shrimp tempor skewer. Looks pretty good. It’s got this sauce on it. You try this out. [Music] Um, it’s not shrimp. It’s not shrimp. It’s like chicken or something. Fried chicken. Maybe a fried fish. I think it’s fried chicken. And the sauce is very pungent. Is it like tarter sauce? Is it like a tarter sauce? I think it is like tarter sauce. It’s a lot. You want this girl? Is it good? You can give it a bite if you want. I think one of these bites would bite. Well, if you’re not going to have it, then I’ll just eat it. You want to try it? Sure. You want to try? I’m really not sure what that is. What is it? Zion chugy. You can see the inside of that guy. Actually, it is pink, which is not the color of shrimp. Oh my gosh, it’s just broiled. But this guy is fried, so I don’t actually know what to expect even from the from the sauce on the top. But to the teeth to the gums, you know, that’s banging. That is straight banging. Yogurt. It’s like sweeter tartar sauce. Actually, it’s not that sweet. That’s really good. Actually, it fried crab. No, that’s not even fried. The imitation crab. Uh, sure. Well, okay. I dropped it. It’s okay. Yeah. I don’t know if I’m the biggest fan of it. This one’s pretty good. I like it. It has the same batter as uh tempura. So, it almost falls off, but it’s very flaky. Almost has like a coconut. You know how whenever you go to like Red Lobster back in the States and you get like uh any of their fried shrimp or jumbo fried shrimp or even their coconut fried shrimp? Think of that tame like texture and quality in your mouth. That’s the same thing as this guy. But again, it’s not shrimp. It’s I I almost think it’s pork. But pork isn’t supposed to be pink. That’s raw. Yeah, it’s not what it is. Tastes like chicken to me. It doesn’t even taste like chicken. I really like it though, guys. I really enjoy them. Bam. Gone. I need some I need some rice to cleanse my palette. I need this. After this, we are heading on over to Mr. Donut, which if you watched our Taipei videos, if you’ve seen some of our Taipei vlogs, you would know that we’ve already been to one so far and filmed it for you guys. They finally would be there. Um, and it was amazing. So, we’ve gotten the opportunity to go to another Mr. Donut, this time in the amazing Kyoto, Japan, and we’re going to go there and try some of their donuts for you guys. So yeah, I think we’re going to take the luxury of eating the rest of this and uh yeah, the name of this restaurant, if you guys are trying to find this in the Kyoto uh dining, um it’s called Masakia. So yeah, come here and try yourselves. It’s really good. All right, guys. So right now we are in line for Mr. Donuts. So, if you’ve never had Mr. Donut, you’re missing out. Mhm. Look at this. The sign is right up there. As you can see, it’s mochi donuts. Mochi donuts. It’s not like your typical yeast donut that you would eat um in the US. It’s better. There’s And you can fight me in the comments. It is the best doughut ever. We’ve uh tried some of these on the Taiwan vlog before, but we’re about to try some in Kyoto. So, a completely different experience. Not really different. I mean, still Mr. Donut, but we’re going to try these for you. And uh we’re going to have to order here in a second. Dan’s trying to find a seat. It’s very crowded because Mr. Donut is so good. So, there’s a billion people here getting donuts, including me and Z. Okay, how much? Okay, so we just got our donuts. Uh we’ve got a ton of flavors here. We got lots of flavors. Um, really just a few flavors, but we got lots of donuts. I have a napkin if you need it. I got my favorite strawberry. This is just regular glaze. It’s pretty good. It’s so good. I got It’s so good. Yum. And if you’re wondering where Rowan is, he’s over yonder. It’s tough to find seating. It um it does not taste like a regular doughnut. I don’t know. It’s just spongier. No. Chewy. Yep. And it’s not fluffy. Not like huge fluffy. You know how like in um the states whenever you get a doughnut with like crispy cream Duncan or whatever, right? The glaze is like really intensely sweet. Here it’s not like that. It’s like a subtle, especially on the strawberry. It’s very mild. I don’t know. It’s just so good. If you’ve never been to a Mr. Donut, run to a Mr. Donut. Let’s see. Is this one mine? Yes. I wonder what’s got a matcha donut. Ew. He wants some grass with his donuts. Grass-fed donuts. Grass-fed donut. Yum. Delicious. Let me tell you, it’s a good thing we don’t live close to a Mr. Donut. Pushing 4 400. my 500 lb life. And I’m just looking around just now and I realized we’re the only people under 50 years old sitting at the store. There are no other Westerners in here. Not that I can tell. Okay. Which I don’t know why. They’re probably too busy eating at McDonald’s. We’ve eaten at McDonald’s on this trip. We just didn’t record it. Only for sustenance. Dan, I got you a glaze one. Would you hold it with your napkin? Yeah. Sure. You just hold it with your d with your thing like this. I just have to put my napkin aside. Man, that glaze is so good. Mr. Donut, what a gift you are. Was that matcha one good? He said yes. She lied. Knowing Mr. Donut probably is right. No, not if it tastes like real matcha. I mean, we’re definitely the exception to the rule because so many people love matcha. I don’t know why. I don’t know why so many people like matcha. It tastes like grass. Maybe we just had bad matcha or something every time. Some cultures that may be part of the the food intake that they’ve had since they were a child. It’s matcha and that’s just a flavor that’s that they like. That’s how it is. I got to say it’s cool to sit here at this cafe cuz you can see like outside the Kyoto train station is like an open air train station and so the little archways that form the the structure, you can see right out into the city. Like there’s no windows or anything. So it feels like you’re sitting inside but you’re indoors protected from the rain. This is so cool. Such a cool thing. It is so cool. Yeah. Wow. Well, that was like excellent. An excellent trip to Mr. Donut. Well, that was good. That felt just like old times in uh happiness. That that reminds me a lot of Taiwan. And we love Taiwan. We love Taiwan. Yep. Wow. Now I’m full. Oh, me too. Okay, now we can walk back over to Nishki or Kab or whatever. All right, so that’s what we’re going to do, guys. We’re going to go ahead and walk on over to Nishki Market and explore the rest of it. So, yeah, cuz we only did one half. It’s massive. So, see you guys in a second. All right, guys. Just made it to Nishki Market. There’s a lot of people behind me, as you can kind of see back there. Um, I’m wanting to go to a couple different shops. Maybe I I kind of want a t-shirt, maybe some souvenirs. I haven’t really gotten any uh specifically good souvenirs yet for I want to have something to remember uh for Kyoto because this place is absolutely amazing. So, uh yeah, we’ve been having so much fun. Nishki, I would say it’s just as packed as it was the last time we were here. Even though the weather, as you guys can see, it’s like a little bit more cloudy, a little bit more rainy. Um, it’s just as packed as it was the last time that we were here. Um, but yeah, we’re going to walk around, have a good time, and explore some more, see what’s going on. So, are you excited? You excited for Nishki, huh? You excited for Nishki? Mhm. Welcome back. Day three of being in Nishki. It’s not uh it’s not three days in a row, but it is three days in and out of Nishki. Today’s the final day. We’re going to we’re going to explore the rest of it, man. We also got the whole right or right side of the branch. We explored 100% of the left side of the branch, but here goes the right side, you know. Yeah, exactly. So, uh, yeah, we’re kind of waiting for mom. I think mom is in this in this one store over here buying hair pins. Hair pins, a hat for somebody. Yeah. So, yeah, we’re going to kind of wait for that. And then whenever she’s out, go exploring some more, check everything out, and uh, yeah, we’ll catch you in a minute. All right. So, we’re walking around right now. We just made it past the big part of the crowd. When I say the big part of the crowd, it was like gigantic. Like shoulderto-shoulder. You’re like this close to everybody. You guys have seen for the last like three vlogs, man. Nishki is so tough to get through at the beginning, man. It really is. It’s like so packed. People will just like shove you out of the way. You’ll just get strong armed a lot if you’re if you’re not careful. And especially if you just stop in the middle of the road or stop in the middle of the walkway, bro, you’ll get strong armed, you’ll get shoulder checked, you’ll all the above, bro. So, when you come to Nishki and you’re getting through that initial walkway, dude, please keep walking until the the road either splits off or until you can find an actual vacant like little pocket in the sidewall or something, man. Cuz you will get shoulder checked and it’s going to suck and you’re going to get frustrated if you don’t. So yeah, there’s uh there’s always like a lot of people here. Even this place is packed even when I think it wouldn’t be that packed. It’s like so packed out. People love shopping here. People love eating all the food here and trying everything here as do we. So it would be kind of hypocritical for me to say otherwise. But um yeah, we’re going to keep walking around and trying things. We’re in like the I guess this is the souvenirs and the clothing part of the district, which um if you guys listened earlier in the video, I was saying I kind of want to go see if they have any souvenir stores or Oh, that’s a jewelry shop right there. That’s kind of cool. Jewelry shop. Um Yeah, there’s some cool stuff in here. That’s an anime store, which anytime Rowan hears anime, he’s like, “Okay, I need to go.” Sure is, man. That is my playground. Cheesecake. Ooh, look at this. That’s that jiggly cheesecake. It’s the fluffy cheesecake. Yeah, it jiggles. Maybe we’ll try some of these. You want to try some of these? 800 yen strawberry. stress. Uh, no. Thank you. I bet these are ini pie. Dogi pie. So, we just got food from Enchi Pie. It’s this uh little tiny cake shop and they make like those jiggly cheesecakes. Yeah, they are so so famous, man. So So you going to try it? What do you think? I’ll give it a I’ll give it a go, man. They didn’t have any of the matcha or the strawberry, which is crazy because considering that it’s only Oh, I thought it was a lot earlier than it is. It’s 2:53 p.m., guys. Okay. Oh, look. They opened at 11. They stamped it. Wow. That’s like a little heat stamp. Mhm. Wow. Super cool. Give it a try. So, I don’t know how you I think just break a piece off. See? Okay. It is. She’s a thick one. She’s a thick one. Here we go. [Applause] Oh man, look at that. Good. Tastes like angel food cake. Like a really a more dense version of angel food cake. Really very light. Not sweet. Not sweet. You think it will? I won’t be. To the teeth to the gums. It be good if you slam some whipped cream in this baby. There is a slight sweetness. I mean, it is on the back end of sweet. Like, whenever you think of something sweet, especially if it’s like an American sweet, there’s nothing like it. This is almost like pound cake. M. Poundake. This is like if you took pound cake and you stripped all the sugar out of it. Half of the sugar out. It’s still really good. 3/4 of the sugar. Yum. Good. It’s really good. Good rating. And this brick could feed like a whole nation of people. And it was like 700 yen. 700 yen. You guys rating it? I would say 7 out of 10. 7 out of 10. It’s good. It’s just I wish it was just a hint sweeter. I like the fact that it’s it’s moist. It has some some good noise to it. Yeah. So, I would give it like I give it an eight honestly just because of how moist it is. And then there’s a little bit of sweetness. Not any like vanilla or anything to it. Uh but purely just it almost tastes like raw sugar. But it’s good. It’s good. Yeah. No, definitely for for 700 yen, which at the time of the recording, which will last us forever. Yes. 700 yen. 700 yen to USD is $4.93. So this whole brick for $4. Yo, that’s crazy. And again, I’m sure they would uh have a couple more flavors and things for us to actually try here at this place, but it’s it is like 4 hours since they opened. So I’m I’m not surprised that they have run out of stuff to sell except for the normal plain stuff. So So yeah, the sign right behind us in Daji Pie. Come try this out yourselves. Pretty good stuff. Uh it was relatively cheap, too. Look at this. Look how soft that is. Just pulls away. Bro, if it if you were a coffee drinker, it would be good. Like something to go with your coffee, especially if you’re like a sweet coffee drinker, then it would be great. That’s Yeah, I would definitely put this with Yeah. Yeah. No, if you had this with your coffee, which I’m a coffee guy, it’d be really good, actually. Holy cow. Yeah. Great. Great deal for the amount of money and good taste for the amount of money. So, give it a try and let them know that we sent you. Yeah, let them know we sent you. But yeah, guys, also we’re going to keep going around and trying some of these other food stalls and trying stuff that they have to offer. But yeah, that was just like one of the first things we decided to try so far cuz we were like, “Wo, that looks pretty good.” The fluffy bread, we were like, “Okay, we got to try that.” So, I give it an eight. He gave it an 8 out of 10. So, yeah, we’re going to keep walking around trying things and Yeah. So, we ended up heading into this cool anime/figurine store. Uh, there was a lot of cool stuff in here like Nintendo products. Uh, there was Pokemon products, a whole bunch of stuff that we got to see as you can see here. And it was a great experience. What’s back here? What’s I don’t know. I think these are like plushies and stuff. I don’t know if it’s anything that you’d necessarily want. Yeah. But those are like anime figures and stuff. Yeah, if you want to keep looking at the anime figures, you have to look over here. Those are all Jojo’s. Yeah, it’s not really my speed. So, yeah, guys, some stores will be like hit or miss. You just walk out and go to the next store, find what you want from the next store. They might have three times as much of that same item. So, you never know until you try it. Yeah. We’re going to keep walking around exploring the amazing Nishki and Kyoto. Oh, those are kind of cool shirts. You might want to come back and see those shirts. Yeah, if you want to see those in just a minute. Oh, puppy. Hello. So mad here. He’s a majestic. You see, I’m trying. Oh. Oh. Are Where are we? We’re in the dog cafe. The middle of the dog cafe. Where’s the French one? Oh, look at the little She wants a chicken. It’s okay. [Music] Rowan is covered in dogs. Oh, she’s sorry. Give it to the little Give it to the white one in front of you. Look at the sheibu. She’s waiting. Or he’s waiting. Look at this. Why are you crying? It wants a bite. Why do you keep the whole cafe on me? It’s that chicken. Oh, she’s sorry. How do you keep biting? Oh, look at this. Shibu, Zion, look. Zion, look. There you go. I mean, so soft. Like a little fox. Here. You look at this one. Look at this one. Oh, he’s going the diapers. The diaper baby. Here you go. Okay. Here. Here. Okay. Oh, this little one. Hi. Hi, mister. Hi, mister. Go ahead and check my application right now. Okay. And yeah, that’s a wrap for today’s video. Thank you all so much for tuning in. We’ve been really appreciating all the support lately for these videos and we’ve got some more content coming out for you guys pretty soon.
