S Work P Seat Review: Remote Work on the Shinkansen (Okayama to Tokyo)

[Music] Hello, I’m Noo. I’m at Okama Station on the Sink. I’m going back to Tokyo from now. [Music] Today I will use a seat reserved for business passengers to travel to Shinaga station. Stay tuned till the end. Okay, let’s get started. This time I booked a special seat for business travelers. It’s called the sw seat. Let me show you how it works. [Music] Before boarding the sink, I got some food and drinks at the shop. [Music] The car number seven on some chinkans and trains is called the S work car. It’s designed for people who want to work while traveling. Regular S for work seats are just normal reserved seats. Today I’ll use the S for work P seat. [Music] Only 10 P seats are available per train. They take up the space of 1.5 seat. There are partition between these two seats that gives you more privacy and comfort. The materials are the same as regular seats, but the design is more work friendly. [Music] So, here’s the tray table. And apparently, you can pull it out even further in for more workspace, but I had no idea, so I didn’t do it. Yep, I was too focused on filming and totally miss it. You can take calls or join meetings in S work seat. Just try not to yell like you are in a pub. The table is just the right size for a 13in laptop, perfect for a bit of work or editing. And yes, that is indeed an Omegy on my wallpaper. The onion is on my desktop convinced me I was hungry, so I decided to eat before editing. This wet Ohi caught my eye at Oka station. Ohi is a traditional Japanese sweet sticky rice covered in sweet red bean paste. They say this version uses Hokkaido beans, but yeah, still oh. [Music] Before getting started, I grabbed a juice called shy mascot from Okama to quench my thirst. My husband picked a lemon juice fla lemon. Both are made with fruits locally grown in the region. He also got the bento wagyu beef and egg cutlet bento. The beef cutlet was as expected, but what really caught my eye was the egg cutlet. Yes, a cooklet made from a Japanese style fluffy omelette. It has a crispy coating outside but stays soft and airy seaside. Surprisingly delicious. I chose a bender box called Okama special all in one. Eently, it was developed by local high school students in collaboration with local companies. Since we were only passing through Okama, I figured I’d try as many local flavors as I could in one go. According to JR Central, most trains on this line are the newer M700S models with power outlets in the armrest and faster unlimited Wi-Fi. But the one I got was the older M700. The outlet was under the seat and the Wi-Fi. It was technically there, but I couldn’t connect at all. Maybe I’ll get luckier next time. [Music] So, yeah, if you planning to work on the train, go over the M700s, not the oldest M700. You’ll get better Wi-Fi, easier access to power, and that little privacy wall. Totally worth it. Just heads up, video calls are not really reliable. There are lots of tunnels and the signal drops often. I worked non-stop from Okam to Nagagoya and ended up feeling a bit sick. But that’s just me. I’ve got a sensitive inner ear. You might be totally fine. That’s it all for today. I usually explore places in Japan that tourist of a myth with low stories from local history and culture. If that sounds fun, subscribe and join me next time. M [Music] [Music]

Today, I’m riding in the S Work P Seat—
a special reserved seat designed for business travelers on the Shinkansen.
It comes with power outlets, extra space, a small privacy wall, and free Wi-Fi.

I took this seat from Okayama Station to Shinagawa Station in Tokyo,
and tried to work the whole way.
Spoiler: I got motion-sick 😅
But I’ll walk you through what it’s like, who it’s good for,
and whether it’s worth paying a bit extra.

🧳 Good for:
• Remote workers visiting Japan
• Travellers looking for quiet space
• Shinkansen fans interested in seat options

📍Route: Okayama → Shinagawa Station (Tokyo)
📍Note: This train does not go to Tokyo Station. I got off at Shinagawa, one stop before Tokyo.
📍Seat: S Work P Seat (Reserved / Business-focused)

🚄 According to JR Central, S Work P Seats are only available in certain cars on certain trains.
Check the seat map before you book!

  1. Very funny and interesting video. We're all a bit the same: we sit down with the intention of working and being productive, but we quickly get distracted by food.😄

    What lovely trains!✌
