What Is Naomi Osaka’s Relationship Status? Inside Her Dating History

Tennis phenom Naomi Osaka has an interesting story arc. She took the tennis world by storm, left it just as suddenly to focus on her mental health, had a boyfriend and a baby, split with him, and is now back, competing in the semifinals at the U.S. Open.

She battles U.S. player Amanda Anisimova—who has gone through her own issues since the death of her father—on Thursday, September 4.

That storyline, and her new documentary on Tubi, have increased interest in Osaka’s dating history. She did have a prominent boyfriend, who is the father of her child. She has never had a husband, though, and it’s not clear whether she is dating anyone currently, according to USA Today.

Osaka’s high-profile former flame was the musician Cordae.

Why did they break up? That’s not clear. However, she did speak out about the split on her Instagram page earlier this year, roughly two years after they had a baby together.

“Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship,” Osaka wrote in an Instagram story that is no longer visible, according to People.

She said there was “no bad blood at all,” referring to Cordae as a “great person and an awesome dad,” People reported. The pair dated for six years, first being seen together at a 2019 L.A. Clippers game, according to the outlet.

Osaka added, “Honestly, really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.”

According to ATP Tennis, Osaka, who plays for Japan, is currently the 24th-ranked women’s tennis player in the world. She took a break from the sport after becoming pregnant with her daughter, Shai.

Osaka stays very private about her personal life and her baby, posting only one photo of the child that she later deleted, USA Today reported. However, she opened up in the documentary about the child.

“I have multiple identities. My return to the sport is a love letter for moms,” she said in the documentary’s trailer.
