HEADING BACK TO TOKYO (Godzilla Displays in Shinjuku and Sake Tasting!)

[Music] Hey There we are. Um at the train station in Hiroshima. Um we are taking an A2 train to Koo and then Coo to Tokyo back to just enjoying a little lemon hot lemon drink before we get on our train. So have to go back to Tokyo. Yeah. Got a love hate thing for Tokyo, you know. Got to love them. [Music] Sorry. Never mind. Heat. Heat. [Music] having fun navigating. Yeah, that feels weird. What’s that? That feels weird. Yeah, so many lines. It’s hard to film. But it’s worth it for the little chunks I get. Maybe I don’t know. Here we go. Yeah. See what it’s all about. Lovely. Yukata. Very nice. That’s our disaster evacuation. Okay. Don’t use those unless there’s a fire kind of washing area. I’m guessing this is a bathroom. Ooh, toilet. Yeah. And let’s see the main event here. Yeah, there’s a kettle down there. I can see it. Oh, snap. Use your kettle. This is it. Yeah. Cozy room. But honestly, more space than less. Mhm. Last room. All right. A little bit of a view. Yeah. Oh, excellent. Every time we come back here, it’s uh busier and busier by here in Tokyo as a whole. I recall uh Saka being one of the less busy areas we visited in Tokyo. I came here for the first time by myself in 2011 and uh yeah, it went like this. Yeah. I can’t believe we haven’t had any sake really the whole time. [Music] That’s the one. Thank you. Lucky that way. Oh, yes. Take a picture. Yeah. Hello, kitty cat friend. Forgot about you. funny thing is this is about as crowded as I remember Shibuya Halloween being in uh 2014, but this is just regular everyday business now. I guess I guess that’s why they have police trying to move you around and shut it down. Here he is. Oh, this is where that man got his little folder of pictures when we were here. I remember that. One of those times. Was that the original time we came with you? Yeah. 2014. Bad anxiety. Oh my god. Yeah. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Are you having a fun time? I am. Shinjuku Demon City. Yeah. There’s a man dressed up just garbage. Oh, yeah. That’s a One Piece character. Um, we’re we’re going to try to go get some sushi, I think, cuz we haven’t had any yet on this trip somehow, except for like the one plate we had. [Music] No, it doesn’t feel like you have sushi until you go to a sushi restaurant. That’s really cute. Oh, yucky. [Music] Happy Halloween. Happy Halloween. There’s a lot of cool art under that underpass there. Yeah. Yeah. Me, too. We found the secret entrance to the sneaker deni sushi which seems to be in Korea town which is maybe on the skirts of Shinjjuku or at least there’s a lot of Korean stuff going on. But we ordered some beers. We ordered some seared tuna which is the best thing in the whole world. We’re going to order some salmon here it seems. Right. Oh Yeah. We done almost well worth the walk. I always maintain that onion is my friend here. Let’s see how I feel about it. They certainly shape it expertly thin or shove it in my mouth. Before holds up fell off this one. Little update. You got a little smile of happiness over there. And we got some um I think it’s salmon with onion and chili sauce. Chili. Same idea. Yeah. Those are piles. Pretty big piles. Just saying how this is nice how it’s not as crazy here as it is in the one in Shibuya. So if you want to come to Yankee Sushi, maybe think about coming to this one. I holding up. No. All right. I think these might be our last two little guys and then we’ll head back. You look so happy. and blood. We just went into the store behind you and if you can tell by the smile on this guy’s face, we found some vinyl. Pretty good stuff. Um, we’ll have to actually go through when we get back and show you. Look at this thing right here. Yeah. Yes, sir. You said you’d ordered her from them online before. Yeah. So, that’s pretty cool. Yeah. And I got a good assortment, too. Dread H. way over here. Donkey. This is a small one though. Check it or the big one. Beautiful. stands out, eh? We were going through like back alleys and Shinjuku, and you never know what you’re going to bump into. There’s not much to film right here. And at the same time, there’s been so many crowds that have been reluctant to pull the GoPro cuz I always feel like I’m, you know, potentially pointing at people who don’t want a camera pointed at them. It’s a tricky thing, the vlogging game. Navigational strife. Yeah, on the no tail light. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] I think we found it. The building looks very Gojira. Heck yeah. [Music] Let’s [Applause] go. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. this is just [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat [Music] up here. One last little mission to try to find hens before it closes. Yeah, streets are hectic. I don’t know what sort of footage I’m getting, so hopefully this is watchable. Maybe this is just how like band gets down after they vote. Today’s election day, right? Oh, yeah. I forgot. We went on a little bit of a shopping thing in Shinjuku this evening and uh went to a couple of places and I’m just going to show you some stuff we got. What a haul. Show you the stuff I got. I don’t know if you want to share your stuff or not. We can share stuff. So, um, he went to Toyu Hands and I got two of my absolute favorite little white notebook things for drawing on. I use them for when we travel. Um, they’re really good for keeping notes in about the trip and taping in little trinkets and stuff. Glad to get some more of those. Got some washi tape. This one’s got little doggos. I think that’s pretty cute. And this one’s got um like rice bowls. And there’s a little takoyaki. They’re really cute. Mhm. Right at the beginning of this or before I started filming, I said I wouldn’t move around cuz the chair I’m sitting in is super loud. And then the first thing I did was lean forward and stop doing that. I got these two stickers. Oo, one piece or not one piece. Random one half. And uh and a copy bar. Grandma one piece. Yeah. And uh of course I got some pens cuz they’re important to have for writing and drawing. And then we went to a record store and I got this guy right here. I got a couple of his records. Yeah, this is really cheap. It was like 500 yen. Yeah, this is kind of a guess, but this is um apparently Japanese um jazz. Yeah, I’ve watched a bunch of videos of that, too. Yeah, he’s of a similar ilk. This other smooth jazz Bob Jamesy sort of uh Yeah. Yeah. Not sure what year this is. It said it on the sticker that he took out, but it’s okay. And this just looked really cool. So, I got this This is a Japanese rock, but it’s from Ed. And the back of it is like extra excellent. Yeah, that looks like a winner. I can’t wait to get that. If not, it’d be excellent to put on the wall. Yeah. And then all Japanese lady faces in the jazz section from the ‘ 70s. We’ve got to be golden. So, it says weather report in the corner. I’m assuming unrelated to the North American band. Hopefully. So yeah. Um, those are the records I got. I don’t know if you want me to show your records. Sure. Mine are a little less Japanese. I got I got I think two Japanese records and uh three not so Japanese. King Crimson. You’re holding two Crimsons. I know I am. Yeah. Earthbound and in the wake of Poseidon. I’ve almost got all the crimson though. This one is Japanese girl. Yeah, Kikoano. That looks awesome. I’m a fan of hers. I have a bunch of her records already. Yo, a hot dog. Bob James. Somebody’s got to own all Bob James. Yeah. Yeah. And you got some other stuff, too. But yeah. Uh, a bunch of markers and some stickers. Maybe it’s worth pulling the stickers out. You tell me. random shampoo, Fuji Sun, and then Eva. Cool. And then a ton of pens and stuff because he, you know, done drawing stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Whole bunch in there. Look at all them pens. Tons of them. So, we also got this fellow to uh hold my pens high above his bed. His legs are over here close to the north star. Yeah, a little sloppy, but interesting technique. So, I think we’re going to chill out here, have a beverage, and go to sleep. I’m exhausted. Longer stay. They’ve gone a lot of miles. Yeah. Yeah. Nighty night. Take left camera. listening to some of our new record purchases to make sure that we bought dope So far, it’s okay. Flagged for content. Flagged for content. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Sh.

We headed to the train station for 8am (after having an early morning bath in the onsen of course, that should be expected by now). We took the train to Kobe then from Kobe to Tokyo. On the first train we were all seated separately, but as I went to sit, a lady and her son were in my spot.. My anxiety had been pushed a lot that morning, so I didn’t even try to fix the situation, I went off in search of the non reserve car. Eventually Jives came and found me. The lady had switched seats with Jives to be with her family, and now Jives and I could sit together. Finally some good news.
At Kobe we had a brief stop and switched trains. We all sat together in a row for the final train back to Tokyo. Jives was having a lot of difficulty managing pain from his wisdom teeth (which he then had removed two months later).
We arrived in Tokyo at 1:42pm and took the Yamanote line from Tokyo station to Akihabara, from there we took the Tsuba line to Asakusa station and walked to our accommodation. The streets around our hotel were so busy. They seemed to have closed them off to traffic for Sunday and there were booths everywhere. Foodstalls, drinks, clothing, everything. We arrived at our hotel at 2:35pm which was a bit early for check in at 3pm, but they eventually let us check in a bit early. We had a room separate from Harith. We sat in our room briefly before heading out to Shinjuku. The room was lovely, bigger than most of the rooms we had stayed in on this trip, with tatami floors and two little seats.
We headed out towards Shinjuku. On the way to the metro we stopped at a sake brewery booth on the pedestrian street and tried a dry sake after which we tried a small flight with three sakes; dry, sweet and a plum one. The guys at the booth were super nice. The one guy had stayed in Toronto for a year on a working visa to learn English. The other guy had a Canadian girlfriend. We said our goodbyes after savouring or sake samples and took the yellow JR line to Shinjuku.
In Shinjuku we walked to the godzilla head to film a rap take for Jives and then we walked to a Genki sushi in Korea town. We had been in Japan for two weeks and hadn’t had any sushi yet! We were seated at a table together and ordered beer as well as our favourite sushi; the seared salmon, seared tuna and some new favorites. The total came to just over 5500Yen ($55). We paid at the self-serve machine and then walked to the godzilla light display at the Tokyo Metropolitan building.
The show was excellent! It was a huge projection on the side of the building, totally worth the walk!
We then went to a record shop in Shinjuku where Jives found quite a few records and I took a chance on four Japanese albums. The guy at the cash was super sweet and asked if I liked Japanese music.
We then went to Tokyu Hands where we found my favourite notebooks for travel as well as some washi tape, pens for drawing and stickers. We then took the train back to Asakusa and went to the 711 for some drinks on the way to the room.
I had a quick onsen soak before bed. The onsen was one of my favourites! The wash area was against one wall and behind a stained glass wall with images of kimonoed women. The water was super dark with minerals. It was difficult seeing into the bath, but I liked the fact that the water was dark as it hid my tiny tattoo. I sat in the main bath for a long while and then went outside to try the barrel baths. The barrel bath was super hot!!
Back in the room, poor Jives as in so much tooth pain. It was a rough sleepless night…
