Naomi Osaka will have to wait for a fifth Grand Slam title after losing to Amanda Anisimova at the US Open.
The Japanese player failed to set up a final with Aryna Sabalenka, losing in three sets to the resurgent American player.
Osaka is in good spirits after the defeat, and this is the tournament that should give her the confidence to once again be a Grand Slam champion.
Anisimova had some encouragement for Osaka at the end of their semifinal clash, and now she will hope to become a Grand Slam champion for the first time.
Osaka predicted a tough match against Anisimova, but despite defeat, there is still a lot that the 27-year-old can take from this tournament, including a big win over Coco Gauff.

After every major tournament, the attention for the players turns towards the WTA rankings and where they rank following the conclusion of the event.
Osaka went into this tournament as the world number 24, and everybody is aware that for a player of her quality, that is too low.
The four-time Grand Slam winner hadn’t reached the second week at the other three majors this year, and the US Open provided a big return to form.
Now, Osaka has broken back into the top 15 of the world rankings for the first time since January 2022 with her run to the semifinal at Flushing Meadows.
Amanda Anisimova will make her top 5 debut on Monday. She will be world number #4.

Naomi Osaka rankings history since 2022
It’s great to see a four-time Grand Slam winner start to make strides towards the latter stages of major events once again.
Osaka has won two US Open titles and a couple at the Australian Open, but since taking some time out to become a mother, her ranking has naturally dropped.

After missing 2022, Osaka slipped to number 43 in the world rankings, and at the end of last year, she was even further down the list as the world number 59.
This year, however, Osaka has now made great strides and it’s a truly positive step that she can consider herself back inside the top 15 of the world after a solid run at a big tournament.
