Rabat – Morocco will compete in the 20th World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, from September 13 to 21, sending a delegation of 20 athletes, including 14 men and 6 women.
The men’s team features Olympic and world champion Soufiane El Bakkali, along with Mohamed Tindouft (3000m steeplechase and 1500m), Salaheddine Ben Yazide (3000m steeplechase and 1500m), Faid El Mostafa (1500m, 3000m steeplechase, and 5000m), Anass Essayi (1500m), Fouad Messaoudi (1500m), and Hafid Rizqy (800m and 1500m).
The delegation also includes Saad Hinti (400m and 400m hurdles), Abdel Rahman El Assal, Abdelati El Guesse (800m and 1500m), Moad Zahafi (800m), Othmane El Goumri (marathon and 5000m), Mohamed Reda El Aaraby (5000m and marathon), and Soufiyan Bouqantar (5000m).
The women’s team includes Assia Raziki (100m, 200m, and 800m), Fatima Ezzahra Gardadi (marathon), Rahma Tahiri (5000m and marathon), Kaoutar Farkoussi (1500m and 5000m), Soukaina Hajji (800m and 1500m), and Bahiya El Arfaoui (800m and 1500m).
Two of Morocco’s medalists from the Budapest World Championships, Soufiane El Bakkali and Fatima Ezzahra Gardadi, will return to the global stage in Tokyo.
Throughout 19 appearances at the World Athletics Championships, Morocco has secured 33 medals, including 12 gold, 12 silver, and 9 bronze, confirming its place among the continent’s most successful nations in track and field.
