Naomi Osaka v Amanda Anisimova in US Open semi-final

Naomi Osaka bids to reach her first grand slam final in almost five years against home US Open favourite Amanda Anisimova.

Osaka, the 2019 and 2020 champion in New York, won the last of her four grand slam titles at the 2021 Australian Open before taking a break from the sport for her mental health and giving birth to her daughter Shai in 2023.

The former World No 1 defeated Coco Gauff in the last-16 and then Karolina Muchova in the quarter-finals and is enjoying her best run of form since returning to the sport 18 months ago.

She will face Anisimova, who claimed redemption for her 6-0 6-0 Wimbledon final defeat by beating Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals 6-4 6-3. The 24-year-old American is through to her first US Open semi-final.

Lorenzo Musetti on facing Jannik Sinner: ‘He pushed me to my limit’

Lorenzo Musetti said he has never played an opponent who has made him rush as much as Jannik Sinner did today in their US Open quarter-final. Musetti had not played his fellow Italian in two years and said Sinner pushed him to his limit.

“A lot of things changed from our last meeting. We grew up, but of course him, he became probably the… I never played, honestly, someone who put me on this kind of rush in the rally, and I didn’t have many chances on the rally, and he was always leading the rally. So that was kind of a bad feeling, of course, when I was playing against him.

“Of course, pretty impressed by Jannik’s performance today. I think he served really well, and he was pushing me to my limit. Of course, he’s better than me, and he showed. But I’m happy that I played against him to understand even the things that I have to improve. So hopefully soon I can have a test again.”

BREAK! *Jannik Sinner 6-1 6-4 5-2 Lorenzo Musetti

Jannik Sinner, wow! Musetti stretches his arms out wide as Sinner thunders a forehand winner down the line, surely his fastest winner of the match.

It brings up break point, and Sinner moves one game away as Musetti hacks long. He’s just been too good tonight and will have the chance to wrap this up inside the two-hour mark.

Jannik Sinner 6-1 6-4 4-2 Lorenzo Musetti*

Musetti brings up his latest break point with a wonderful backhand pass as Sinner came into the net.

But Sinner saves both: first as Musetti can’t get the serve back in play, then as Sinner goes at the backhand with his forehand.

Musetti then nets on the run and another chance slides by.
