GUSHIKAWA, Okinawa – One of Emma Conroy’s stated goals entering her senior season of high school golf is to “definitely start shooting in the 70s.”

The Kadena senior and three-time defending DODEA-Okinawa champion got a head start over the Labor Day weekend by carding a 79 at the PGM Golf Resort near Nago on Okinawa’s northwest coast.

It was her first time finishing 18 holes in under 80. And to hear her tell it, the result was like the best birthday and Christmas present she’s ever had.

“I was so happy,” said Conroy on Wednesday before the start of DODEA-Okinawa’s regular season.
