The US team has been named for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25, and it features all seven athletes who won individual titles in 2023.
Sprinters Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson, hurdler Grant Holloway, shot putters Ryan Crouser and Chase Jackson, pole vaulter Katie Moon and discus thrower Laulauga Tausaga will all be making use of their wild card entries as defending champions.
Wild cards have also been earned by Diamond League champions Jacory Patterson in the 400m, Cordell Tinch in the 110m hurdles and Brittany Brown in the 200m. The wild card entries mean the USA will be able to send up to four athletes in those disciplines.
Other standout names include Olympic champions Cole Hocker, who is doubling up in the 1500m and 5000m, Rai Benjamin in the 400m hurdles, Masai Russell in the 100m hurdles, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who is opting for the 400m flat in Tokyo, and long jumper Tara Davis-Woodhall.
As is the case with any team announcement, athletes named in individual disciplines are eligible for selection in relay disciplines.
