Japan Without Japanese… or IS IT??
Nihongo o hanasemasu ka? Honto desu ka? WATASHI MO!!
Karen had her first full on Japanese conversation this evening. It was nerve wracking, but now that it’s out of the way, maybe she’ll get to practice more often.
By the way, you definitely CAN reserve your Shinkansen tickets without any Japanese speaking ability. Had Karen not been able to do that, the attendant still would have understood what we wanted. (He answered and confirmed everything in English as well.)
Our advice is to be well prepared. Write out or show on your phone which trains you want tickets for – departure and arrival points, dates and times.
