Taiwanese tourists and scuba diving instructors died diving in the sea of Okinawa, a famous Japanese resort. The beach where the accident occurred is famous as a “scuba diving spot” even among Korean tourists.

According to NHK on the 1st (local time), a 24-year-old Taiwanese instructor A and a 28-year-old tourist B, who were diving in the sea about 800 meters from Manja Beach in Okinawa Prefecture, were reported missing at 3 p.m. on the 31st of last month. About two and a half hours after the report, the missing two were found unconscious in an undersea cave near the depth of 30 meters. They were taken to a hospital, but eventually died.

According to the rescue authorities, A went missing with B while scuba diving on the beach on a boat with four Taiwanese tourists.

“Snake Hall is a place where the view deteriorates rapidly even if you move a little because there is a lot of sand and mud on the floor,” local diving industry officials said. “It is a dangerous place for divers without certain experience.”

Meanwhile, Manja Beach in Okinawa Prefecture surrounds Manjamo (萬座毛), a tourist attraction in Okinawa.

The area is famous for snorkeling that beginners, including children, can enjoy on the beach, as well as scuba diving, where divers take a boat to the nearby sea to explore undersea caves, coral reefs, and undersea animals.
