Vijayawada: A delegation from the University of Tokyo visited Amaravati to explore the possibilities of establishing a campus in the region. The visit sparked new hopes of transforming Amaravati into an international hub for higher education.The team comprised associate professor Yoshiyuki Kazayo, executive vice president and professor Hayashi Kaori, and project specialist James Fegan. Their tour began with an inspection of lands near Shakhamuru village, where officials showcased large stretches earmarked for educational projects. CRDA additional commissioner G Suryasai Praveen Chand presented detailed plans using drones and digital maps, explaining the infrastructure and advantages of setting up a global university in Amaravati. He highlighted that Amaravati is being developed as a greenfield capital city with eco-friendly planning, wide roads, modern housing, and world-class connectivity. He assured the delegation that the city is designed to cater to the needs of international institutions while offering a safe and vibrant environment for students. The CRDA team also shared the success stories of SRM AP and VIT AP universities, which were among the first institutions to begin operations in Amaravati. Both universities started their campuses on greenfield lands and have now emerged as leading educational institutions in India. SRM AP and VIT AP attract thousands of students from across the country and abroad, CRDA explained to the delegation. Later, the Japanese delegation visited the SRM and VIT campuses to gain firsthand insight into their functioning. Faculty members explained that thousands of students are enrolled in cutting-edge programs, benefiting from modern teaching methods, global collaborations, and govt support. The University of Tokyo team expressed satisfaction over the available facilities and the commitment of the state govt to promote higher education. They noted that Amaravati offers a unique environment for establishing international academic partnerships. CRDA IT department project manager M Lakshmi Prasanna and other senior officials also participated in the visit.
