TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi met with his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi in Kuwait on Monday and expressed his respect for Oman’s role in easing regional tensions, including its mediation efforts between the United States and Iran over Iran’s nuclear issue. 

Iwaya said he hopes to cooperate in resolving these issues through dialogue, and Minister Badr explained Oman’s diplomatic efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution of the issue.

Iwaya was visiting Kuwait to attend the Japan-GCC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and other events. The two Foreign Ministers held a candid exchange of views on regional and international affairs that included the situations in Iran and Gaza.

Iwaya said he planned to work with Oman to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza and to realize a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue.

According to the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo, Badr welcomed Japan’s efforts in helping to achieve regional stabilization and stated that the various challenges facing the Middle East are all linked to the Palestinian issue, and that without a just resolution to this issue, stability in the region cannot be achieved.

The two ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Indo-Pacific Region and agreed to communicate more closely to peacefully resolve regional and global challenges.
