A 102-year-old Japanese man recently became the oldest person to summit Mount Fuji. He beat his own record by doing so!

How cool is that? I don’t think I’d be able to summit Mount Fuji if I had years to train and get in shape but here this 102-year-old guy is making it happen. Nothing short of impressive. We talk about old people still doing wonderful things all the time on Dave & Chuck The Freak, like the senior stripper, the old lifeguards, and more. However, climbing Mount Fuji sounds like it takes something more. Kokichi Akuzawa recently made it to the summit at age 102, per CBS News! He previously set the record at 96. There’s really no stopping him!

CBS News reports that Akuzawa used the Yoshida route which usually takes experienced mountaineers around 6 hours to complete. However, he opted to slow things down and broke it down into 3 days and 2 nights. You can’t blame him for this strategy as earlier in the year he had a case of shingles and was hospitalized with heart failure. Again, there’s no stopping him!

He endured high winds, low temperatures, and a drop in oxygen during the climb. All of that would be challenging for a young experienced climber! Despite it being difficult, he was inspired by his 70-year-old daughter to not give up. After getting his official Guinness World Records certificate, he told the organization, “It was tough, and it felt a lot different to the last time I climbed it. I’m amazed that I made it to the top. I couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help. I’m feeling pleased now,” via CBS News. When asked if he’d do it again it sounds like that’s not a part of his plan. Sounds like he’s had enough and seen all there is to see up there.

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
