US Open day 7 features several intriguing third-round matches, including a former champion and rising stars. Our panelists offer their predictions for every match.

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Laura Siegemund

Ilemona: Alexandrova has been steady this summer, building on her success in the lead up with some solid wins here, while Siegemund has claimed some big victories to get to this stage. When Alexandrova is in song as she has been this summer, she’s a tough player to stop, which may leave Siegemund with little margin to work with. Prediction: Alexandrova in 2

Ateet: Alexandrova had a tough draw, but she is handling it with aplomb and is looking in great touch. Laura Siegemund is in the US Open third round for only the second time in her career, and she has the chance to make it to the second week for the first time. The German defeated Alexandrova the last time they met, but Alexandrova is in much better form right now and should get this done. Prediction: Alexandrova in 3

Jordan: Siegemund’s variety, especially her slice, is a style that can disrupt Alexandrova. The German veteran’s form at Grand Slams since Wimbledon has also been superb. She could cause another upset here. Prediction: Alexandrova in 2

Amanda Anisimova vs Jaqueline Cristian

Ilemona: Anisimova hasn’t dropped a set so far and looks sharp after a rough stretch of injuries, while Cristian has shown fight but needed to grind through a three-setter to advance. The American’s extra firepower on hard courts could make all the difference here. Prediction: Anisimova in 2

Ateet: #8 seed, Amanda Anisimova had to come back from a break down in the first set to clinch an impressive victory over the talented Maya Joint. She used all her experience and remained calm when she was down. She ended the match playing some great tennis and will need that against an inspired Jaqueline Cristian. Prediction: Anisimova in 3

Jordan: Cristian will try to make it three consecutive wins against Americans after beating Danielle Collins and Ashlyn Krueger. Although the Romanian has proven her ability to win in front of partisan crowds in New York, I expect this to be too significant a test. Anisimova’s powerful hitting will rush Cristian into several forced errors. Prediction: Anisimova in 2

Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Maria Sakkari

Ilemona: Haddad Maia has been a tough matchup for Sakkari, winning all three of their previous meetings. She’s looked steady through the first two rounds, while Sakkari seems to be finding her rhythm again after a patchy year. This one feels like it could be decided by just a few key moments. Prediction: Haddad Maia in 3

Ateet: It’s good to see both these players getting back in form after a lot of struggles on the tour. Maria Sakkari hasn’t reached the fourth round of a Slam since the Australian Open 2022 and will find it hard to do so against an opponent she has never beaten. Haddad Maia has the mental advantage and knows she can grind out Sakkari if needed. Prediction: Haddad Maia in 3

Jordan: This is an important match for both players. Neither has been in great form in 2025, and this is a massive chance for one of them to reach a Grand Slam fourth round. It could go either way, but I feel Sakkari, who entered the US Open with very low expectations, will get back to the fourth round of a major. Prediction: Sakkari in 3

Naomi Osaka vs Daria Kasatkina

Ilemona: Kasatkina’s variety has been working well in New York, but Osaka has been playing with purpose and hasn’t looked out of place against tricky opponents. Their matchups have been one-sided in the past, and unless Kasatkina can disrupt the rhythm early, it might follow the same pattern. Prediction: Osaka in 2

Ateet: Former champion Naomi Osaka lost just four games in the second round and will be looking to reach the second week for the first time since winning the title back in 2020. She has the game which troubles Kasatkina, and their previous two meetings are a testament to that. I can see this going only one way unless Osaka has an off day. Prediction: Osaka in 2

Jordan: I doubt Kasatkina can live with Osaka’s hitting. She always fights and scraps hard, but it will be challenging to handle the Japanese star’s power on the lively US Open courts. This is a tough matchup for Kasatkina. Prediction: Osaka in 2
