Outfits Women Will Actually Wear While on Vacation in Europe (Travel Tips by Laurie)

Hey there. In today’s travel tip video, I’m going to show you vacation outfits that you can pack for Europe. When I think of travel outfits in Europe that I will wear in any season, I need to be prepared for rain. I need to be prepared for casual style. I need to have shoes I can walk in. And I would also want some vacation outfits that are dressier if you need them to be. The number one tip is to have a versatile travel wardrobe so that you can mix and match your outfit pieces. One tip that we figured out during our river cruise is to just invest in the laundry service and add that to our vacation budget. When you’re thinking of traveling to Europe, one outfit is what you will wear inside the airplane. I choose bottom pieces that I can rewear with other outfits in Europe. I have these that are waterresistant and long. They come in three different lengths. I can wear those also with uh compression socks in the airplane, but have a long pair of pants in case it is pouring rain like it was in September for a river cruise. These are both very lightweight, quick drying cropped pants. These tie and these can tie or they can be left loose or straight if you don’t like to cinch the bottom of your legs. Those colors of those pants are versatile because I can wear pink and khaki with any colored top. Travel tip number two is to use a color scheme. I used blue and gray colored outfits for my river cruise in April in Europe. Then for September in Europe, I packed black, gray, and sand colored outfits. In outfit number one, I have gray denim with a an oatmeal colored top. Walmart has some short sleeve shirts that are oatmeal color, but look how well that goes together with gray denim or a gray khaki pant. See how my pink cotton cashmere top is versatile for gray trousers? I can also wear these gray colored bottom pieces with a black and white shirt or a black shirt. I would have at least one pair of water-resistant shoes. I could wear black sneakers for a casual look during the day, but they could go into a restaurant later that night. I can have a black and oatmeal colored striped sweater that drapes over my shoulders and ties around my shoulders for a look that could go into the restaurant. So, the gray has been worn with oatmeal or pink or striped top. That’s three tops for one pair of pants. While you watch this video, I suggest you do these things. Number one, choose the color or the style you like to wear. Number two, if you do not like the color I’m showing or the style that I’m showing, then swap that for a different color or a different style and use the same travel outfit tips I’m going to give you. Outfit number two would be linen pants. Now, in Europe, they don’t wear that many linen type pants, I don’t think, especially if they are striped like these. So, these would be an easy pair of pants to eliminate, but maybe for Greece. Anyway, these are some linen pants that I got and they are very comfortable. Look at how stretchy the waistband is. But here’s why I suggest this tone. I think the stripe is black. So, I could wear it with a black t-shirt. I could wear it with this dark brown cashmere and cotton top from Quint. I could wear them with sandals or I could wear them with sneakers. I’m size 10 and 5’8 and I wear large in mostly all of these things. So outfit three is linen pants with a black shirt, this blue shirt with a high low hem or with the brown cotton cashmere top. Three tops for one pair of pants. Outfit number three would be slick golf type pants or these quick dry pants. And they could both be worn with a t-shirt. They can be worn with a sweater. I could wear them with my waterresistant pair of sneakers or a full-on tenny shoe that has a wide base for solid footing if it is cobbled stone roads or slick pavement. Of the three outfits I showed you, which ones could go into a restaurant? I could wear the linen into a restaurant. I could wear the gray bottom pieces into a restaurant with either tops. Do not forget about a scarf because that can be worn with multiple outfits and change up the look just by tying a scarf. I’ll have my video about 10 ways to tie a scarf, different ways, especially if you need to cover your arms to go into a museum overseas to be appropriately dressed. That video is really good. Do not forget about everybody’s travel hack, and that is to use a vest, especially if you need to fit travel essentials inside your vest because you have a strict airline for weight, for baggage. One travel outfit tip is to use a vest to hide some of your credit cards in the inner hidden pockets. Vests have so many pockets, and a lot of them are hidden, which make it great for travel. This vest is a windbreaker. It’s water resistant. I’m wearing a large and it is plenty of room for many layers. The zippers are very smooth and it does come in several colors. You may want to wear a vest as a travel outfit in a long flight. And that way you could have your wallet inside an an inner pocket and feel more at ease. Be less stressed knowing that your valuables cannot be stolen if you are sleeping during that long flight. Outfit number four would be a dress. This one is no longer available, but it came to my knee length. This newer red dress I wore in New York City because it was actually good temperatures outside. You’ll see that I can wear this during the day with a white sneaker. I do recommend arch inserts for these, but these are fantastic because they are so versatile. with pink, with black, with khaki, with blue, with gray denim. I can wear these tennis shoes and also with a dress. For dresses, a black t-shirt dress is an outfit staple for a trip to Europe. Let these dresses give you ideas of what’s already in your closet. In Europe, I would choose a dress that I could wear sneakers with during the day. You can change the look of an outfit by tying your t-shirt dress at the bottom. You can also drape a scarf over your shoulders or a solid or striped sweater over your shoulders with that dress if it gets cold inside. Here is a travel outfit hack. If you pack a travel set, the striped boxy shape t-shirt goes with the widelegg black pants. I can wear those black pants in the airplane throughout Europe with other t-shirts as well, but I’ve only packed one set. A striped t-shirt is a great piece to add to your travel wardrobe because stripes can go with black. They can go with pink. It can also go with the gray denim that I have as well as shorts if that’s your style during the summer. Here is a travel set that I absolutely love. The skirt is long enough for me. Like I said, I’m 5’8 and it comes to my knees. very comfortable, luxurious fabric, but I love how it doesn’t look fake when it’s on. It looks higher quality as well. And the black one looks like it’s really pretty as well. My travel tips are I can wear this with another t-shirt during the week like this one speaking another language or I can wear this with another skirt or another pair of shorts that I’ve packed or my khaki lightweight pants that I wore in the airplane or with white shorts. Let us know if you wear white jeans or white pants on your vacation. Usually, I know women over 40, they will pack their white pants if they’re going to a beach. But let me know, white is another very versatile color. I just wanted to show you these. I have like 10 of these pairs of shorts. They’re 5 in long. The denim ones seem to be shorter, though. U but they come in and out of stock, so just make sure you keep looking. I forgot to show you this. This is the top that is cotton and cashmere which is very versatile. Light pink, the blush color. It can be worn with blue, with khaki, with white, with black even. I cannot not talk about the best t-shirt for humid weather. I’m in Houston, Texas. If you’re going anywhere with humidity, these are lightweight. You do not even know you’re wearing the shirt. This is the least expensive one I have found and I cannot tell you how completely soft they are. This is size medium. It’s long enough for me. I’m size 10 and 5’8. One way that I saved space in September is I packed my raincoat that went viral on Instagram and I was able to wear lightweight pieces underneath to keep me warm but be totally prepared for rain. And it rained for 5 days straight. The reason I was able to wear that raincoat only was because I packed two different lightweight cashmere sweaters. They retain your body heat, which means you can pack less but be just as warm. And this is another sweater that is so versatile. It’s the navy blue and like a creamy colored. If you tie it around your shoulders, it looks so beautiful and high quality to me over a nice t-shirt. like not a basic slub around the house t-shirt, but a t-shirt like this. I have about six of their shirts. Talbotz makes fantastic ones. These are 3/4length, and I don’t want you to forget about that when you are planning a vacation in Europe. 3/4length sleeves are great for in between seasons. They are great because they are solid and they look dressy enough for a restaurant. You can put a scarf or a big chunky necklace and you will look so pulled together. If you need any outfit recommendations for any kind of trip you’re going on, I suggest the LTK app. It’s totally free and you’ll see little video tips about travel from me and you can look at specific items like the pants that I’m wearing. It only is what you are interested from that one little clip. If you only are interested in the shoes that I’m wearing or that travel gear that I’m showing that’s brand new, this is a way you can look for free and only look at what you need to look at. If you are nervous about flying for a long time over the water, I have a freebie in the first comment in the paragraph below that give you just some quick tips that you can download. If you need organized techniques in packing and only carry-on luggage, I have a fantastic video to help you. I’ll put it here as well as in the paragraph and the first comment. Have a wonderful trip around Europe. Thanks for watching.

  2. Very good tips. I am off to Europe in a couple months. I always make a point to dress like the locals so that I do not stand out

  3. I purchased the water resistant/proof shoes you recommended in another video, my mistake was wearing them on the plane. They make your feet sweat. I should have realized waterproof also means they donโ€™t โ€œbreatheโ€. The shoes are great otherwise. The vest you recommended, AWESOME. I also photograph sports and it is perfect for that as well travel with all those wonderful pockets. Thank you Laurie! Safe travels.

  4. LOL no white pants…I am not a tiny girl, and guaranteed I will sit in something, plus they tend to be too see-through and now I have to worry with what color undies I packed, no just no. (JMO)

  5. Thanks for the tips. We are going on a British Isles cruise the first of September. Im expecting cool to cold weather and rain. What do you think for that time of year? Will a rain jacket be enough?

  6. Great video as usual, thank you Laurie! I have spent the past 5 months in Italy (I visit family every year). I canโ€™t speak to other countries, but for better or worse, restaurants are much more casual than they used to be. You wonโ€™t stand out if you dress nicely, but they wonโ€™t throw you out if you donโ€™t (in the average trattoria).
Agree completely about merino wool, so versatile! Quince is great, and I also have a lot of pieces from Uniqlo. Excellent quality, stylish, great prices and from what I can figure, a decent company.
I also have a Davek umbrella. Smallest I have ever seen, very light and its spines have joints so if it turns inside out, it flips back to normal, no problem. Small but great coverage. Lifetime warrantee, they replaced one with a hole at no charge. Expensive but Iโ€™ve had mine for 6 years and used it a lot. So if you donโ€™t lose things, definitely better than those cheap ones I used to have to replace constantly. Cheers!

  7. My husband and I live on a sailboat, currently sailing around the Med so as much as I like to look stylish, most days I look like a bum ๐Ÿ˜‚BUT my 82yo mother is flying over from Australia end of May and her and I are doing a month long trip around Europe, including a river cruise on the Danube so I have been sending your videos to her to get an idea of what to pack and to make sure she doesn't pack too much to not make her suitcase too heavy to drag around. I have also been taking note of the many tips you give……never thought about scarves so I will get a couple……thank you ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Any recommendations for purse and water ? I always like to use my cross body purse but also have water available to drink. Any thoughts? Going to Europe soon. Really enjoyed your video ๐ŸŽ‰

  9. Very helpful tips! My goal is not to overpack this time for Europe. I wanted to ask is it better to buy Luxury items at the duty free airport shops or the actual designer stores in Greece? I am specifically looking to buy a designer purse to bring back

  10. Yes! Laundry service is often available at hotels ! We paid $25 for one load of laundry. Dropped the clothes off in the morning and they were folded and back in our room by end of the day. No washing in sinks or spending time at a laundromat; well worth it IMO!

  11. You are the only American advisor that gets it right about what to wear on holiday in Europe .hello from Ireland.I travel all over Europe so think your advice is great.

  12. You just solved half my packing problems! I'm always the person who packs โ€œjust in caseโ€ clothes that never get worn. Focusing on 3 tops for 1 pair of pants is such a game-changer and way less stressful ๐Ÿ˜†

  13. For the two piece set with the striped top, are the black pants thick or thin material? The description on Amazon mentions cozy and summer at the same time but cozy to me means theyโ€™re going to be warm. lol

  14. hi… im from Europe, Switzerland๐Ÿ˜Š..its kind of funny and special for me… i d never think about trying to dress like an american if i d be travelling to the u.s.

  15. I wear white at home where I can wash when I spill. Because I will spill something! Traveling I want more forgiving colors.

  17. Just want to let you know that this video inspired me to return some of the "vacation" clothes I purchased because they just aren't right for my real-life. I feel much happier with my vacation choices now!

  18. Yikes! I took a 2-week trip to Tx and even though I tried really hard, ended up with some clothes too heavy (denim, polyester) that really don't work in humid climates. Somehow I'm just not getting the hang of this. ๐Ÿ˜ข

  19. Ok, Laurie! Now that I've totally binged watched you, I've bought a new carry on, the black casual pants and capris, the white sneakers, and the compression bags. I've got to step away!! Your videos are great!

  20. Americans and Europeans are to a wide extend dressed in the same way. We often buy the same brands. So my advice would be to be yourself, be comfortable, appropriate (in churches etc.) and nicely / respectfully dressed. Don't bring expensive jewelries – only bring inexpensive items you can "tolerate" to lose (so not sentimental stuff).
