TOKYO: British Defense Secretary John Healy announced in a joint statement with Japanese Defense Minister NAKATANI Gen that Japanese F-15 fighter jets will soon be deployed to Europe for the first time, TBS TV reported.

Healy, whose visit to Japan coincided with the arrival of Royal Navy aircraft carrier the Prince of Wales, met with Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru and Defense Minister Nakatani on Thursday.

“Japanese F-15 fighter jets will soon be deployed to Europe and the UK for the first time,” Healy said in a joint statement following his meeting with Nakatani. He emphasized that “Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic security are inseparable.” This will be the first time that Japan Self-Defense Force fighter jets will be deployed to Europe.

In a press conference immediately following the joint announcement, Chief of Staff of the Air Self-Defense Force MORITA Takehiro stated only that the deployment of fighter jets and other aircraft is planned. He added, “I believe it is extremely meaningful to strengthen our relationships with like-minded countries.”
