Tokyo Station Anime Magic Through Cameroonian Eyes
Sarah Sensei, Sarah Sensei, what is your
favorite character? What is your favorite anime? Do you like Pokemon? Do you know Don? So
many questions from my kids and I was so curious. I wasn’t born or grew up in an environment where
mangas and you know anime watching is a hobby hobby kind of stuff. But since I landed in Japan,
I haven’t stopped hearing that question. That’s why I decided when I visited Tokyo for the very
first time to go to Tokyo Station. Tokyo station has an underground. You might have heard you
know from a million videos by now, section where there is a whole street full of manga, anime
characters and name the rest. I went there not because I know any and everything about animes.
But how about an adventure? If you don’t try, you never know. Let me take you to my very short
trip. And believe me, you’ll probably get lost. I wasn’t planning to get lost, but I got
lost. Here is the short video of what I did. Tokyo station, Japan’s busiest train hub,
a gateway to cities like Kyoto and Osaka. Opened in 1914 with a stunning red brick design
outside, now it’s a cultural landmark. Inside, it’s a city of its own. shops, restaurants, and
even character themed stalls where I went. From history to high-speed trains, Tokyo station is
more than just a stop. It is a hub, a must visit before you laugh at me. Like, seriously Sarah, you never heard of animes and at least I knew about Naruto. And I know of course
that the manga culture is a Japanese creation and there is just no doubt about
how excellent this industry has been not just in Japan alone. But in so many countries I’m
not sure if it’s very famous in many other countries but in Cameroon I have rarely heard a
lot of people talking about mangas. Maybe in the French part. I’m from the English part. I really
honestly didn’t, you know, hear much. However, it’s a fascinating thing here in Japan. And that’s
why I said I’ll share my little adventure. Okay. So, at least I knew about Naruto. I watched
a couple of of cartoons when I was a child, Japanese made cartoons. And I am just impressed
at how excellent and amazing the industry is. constantly, you know, producing new stuff to
make people happy because I mean I saw the joy on the faces of my kids. I mean my kids
as in my students. I’m a teacher in Japan by the way. So I have just been amazed at how
excited it makes them feel especially the elementary school children. And believe me, even
junior high school also have interesting and characters that they love. I’ll drop a short
story if you stick a little later to tell you how my vice principal, actually my principal
responded when I did something outstanding. So, one day at my junior high school, I decided
I’ll mop the staff room because I had a little more time. Almost every teacher around who
was within that period kept saying thank you, thank you, thank you and I was so grateful.
My principal himself came and said but, you know I just took it like and then after that
was the very first time he came and started having a small talk with me. He gave me some
Japanese snacks and then told me about Doreamon. So anime is not just a child – children
something something. Even adults are into it. I was impressed. He recommended it.
He asked me to watch and I have watched and it’s interesting. It really is. I’m
not sure I’ll become an anime fanatic but I think it’s very, very interesting to
know more about the Japanese culture. Alright. Tokyo station, like I promised, has
two things. The second one is the entire large street for food. Japanese people are reputed
to have one of the best meals on the planet. I cannot argue. I’m not a foodie. So on one
corner, still under the ground, there is a whole section with just a pile of restaurants.
I wasn’t hungry, so I didn’t stop by to eat. I have to like Please drop in the comment section what’s your favorite anime. Thank you for
watching. Please consider liking, subscribing, and why not just click on that
notification bell in my niece’s voice. Bye-bye.
