Japan’s lead tariff negotiator Akazawa Ryosei has canceled his visit to Washington. He was set to leave Thursday for another round of talks with senior officials of the administration of President Donald Trump.

The Japanese government says issues requiring coordination at the working level emerged, and they need to be addressed before the talks can take place.

Akazawa, who is Japan’s Economic Revitalization Minister, was expected to seek an executive order from the president to lower levies on Japanese automobiles.

Earlier, Akazawa said he recognizes that it is important to implement agreements with the US in a sincere and swift manner. He also said the Japanese government wants to produce results leading to the promotion of mutual benefits early, realize growth on both sides and economic security, and further strengthen the Japan-US alliance.

He planned to exchange views on an agreement document on investments worth 550 billion dollars from Japan.

Akazawa wants to confirm whether issuance of the executive order is certain through creating the agreement document.

Sources linked to the negotiations say the signing of the document and the issuance of the executive order will come in tandem.
