Bringing Art to the Streets

Roppongi Art Night is returning for its 14th edition for three days — from September 26 to September 28 — with the theme of “A Festival of City, Art, and Future.”

Approximately 30 artists will be exhibiting their works across the Roppongi area through over 50 programs including installations, performances, music, videos, talk programs and digital works to create intersections between diversity and creativity.

This year’s event will focus on showcasing artists and works from Korea, in commemoration of 60 years of diplomatic relations with Japan. A diverse program featuring six cutting-edge Korean artists will brighten up the streets of Roppongi, including Ayoung Kim, a filmmaker who garnered attention for her work in the “Machine Love: Video Games, AI and Contemporary Art” exhibition held at the Mori Art Museum this year, and Jibin Im, an artist who creates approachable works set in the city using huge bear-shaped balloons.

Other featured artists include contemporary circus performer Namjae Seo, performing arts group Tago, multimedia jugglers Yusaku Mochizuki and Rika Megumi, ink painter Takakuni Kawahara, sculptor Kai Ono and more.

Roppongi Art Night also highlights many other workshops and exhibits such as Tokyo Illustrators Society’s Illustration Works and the Roppongi Photo Contest Exhibition.
