Naomi Osaka made quite the fashion statement at the 2025 US Open during her first-round match against Greet Minnen.

Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, defeated Minnen in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. It wasn’t always easy for her, especially since she struggled with her serve in the second set, but she powered through to secure a spot in the second round. She’ll face Hailey Baptiste on Thursday in what should be a hard-hitting match.

Despite having the fans on her side throughout Tuesday’s match, Osaka wasn’t feeling too confident. She admit to dealing with a few negative thoughts during her post-match interview.

“I don’t really know, I think for me I felt really nervous,” Osaka said, via EssentiallySports. “I think that made me a little negative sometimes, so I just tried to, I guess, be as positive as I could when I realized I was getting down on myself.”

Osaka’s outfit shines bright.

Fans at Louis Armstrong got a close look at Osaka’s spectacular new outfit from Nike. She walked into the arena with a cropped jacket and a red bubble-hem skirt.

Osaka completed her look with a few hair accessories and a Labubu named Billie Jean Bling. Most of her fans loved this look.

“This is definitely my favorite slam kit of hers this year,” one fan said.

“Bold fashion choices before big moments tell you everything about a competitor’s mindset. Osaka’s walking in with confidence, making a statement before she even steps on the court. That red sequined look isn’t just style—it’s mental warfare,” a second fan wrote.

“That’s too cool,” a third fan commented.

Osaka trying to snap Grand Slam drought.

Back in January 2019, Osaka was the No. 1 player in the world. Although she’s still capable of winning big-time matches, she hasn’t won a Grand Slam since the 2021 Australian Open.

If Osaka is going to win the 2025 US Open and capture her fifth career Grand Slam, she’ll need to first take care of what’s a winnable quarter of the draw – especially now that Madison Keys is out.

We don’t expect Osaka to dethrone Aryna Sabalenka or take down Iga Swiatek just yet, but she is slowly but surely returning to form.
