A man in his 40’s was arrested Saturday after he allegedly sprayed an unknown substance in Tokyo’s busy Shibuya district. Eight people were sent to hospitals.

The attack occurred at around 1:30 p.m. near Shibuya station.

Fire engines and ambulances rushed to the scene after receiving a call saying someone had released a tear gas-like substance inside a high-rise facility.

Police later arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of inflicting injury.

People experienced coughing fits after the spray was released on the 7th floor of the facility.

The Tokyo Fire Department says 18 people developed sore throats and other symptoms. Eight of them were rushed to the hospital, but their injuries are said to be minor.

The suspect appears to have gotten into a quarrel with another man after they bumped into each other.

The suspect told police that he sprayed the man because he was angry.
