Shibuya Scramble is a top tourist attraction for most visitors to Japan. Visitors flock to the five-way crossing to take pictures of either themselves or the massive flow of people. The problem, of course, is that stopping to take a selfie while hundreds of others are trying to cross the street can be something of a nightmare.
This fall, you can get some iconic shots without being a nuisance. In Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, a full-scale replica of the Shibuya Scramble Crossing has attracted filmmakers, TV crews, and musicians since 2019. In November, the city will open the set to the public. Visitors can walk through the iconic location that has starred in movies, dramas, and music videos.

Geek Pictures, a Tokyo-based video production company, announced it will open the Ashikaga Scramble City Studio to the public on Sunday, November 9, 2025. The set, located in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, recreates the famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing in front of Shibuya Station.
The city built the studio in July 2019 on the site of a former racetrack that it leased to the company. Covering 6,585 square meters, the open set reproduces the Shibuya Scramble Crossing at full scale. The studio team carefully recreated details such as chewing gum stains and graffiti to match the real intersection. (Sadly, there doesn’t appear to be any Hachiko.)

This Nissan ad used Ashikaga Scramble City Studio instead of attempting the more Herculean task of shutting down the actual Scramble for an hour of shooting.
Since its opening, filmmakers have used the Shibuya Crossing set for movies, TV dramas, and music videos.
One of the movies shot at the studio was Silent Tokyo, released in December 2020. The production used the full-scale Shibuya Scramble Crossing set to film a scene where a terrorist threat shut the intersection down.
During shooting, as many as 1,200 extras joined in a single day. In total, 10,000 extras helped recreate the atmosphere of Shibuya.
The Shibuya Scramble Crossing set also appeared in the music video Make It Out Alive, released in August 2023. In the music video, internationally known rock band ONE OK ROCK collaborated with Monster Hunter Now, a smartphone app by Niantic, Inc. and Capcom. The app lets players experience monster hunting in the real world.
The special collaboration music video blends the game’s world with the band’s performance. It features scenes of hunters racing through city streets at night, wielding weapons, and confronting a monster at the studio’s full-scale Shibuya Scramble Crossing.

The public opening of the Shibuya Scramble Crossing set at Ashikaga Scramble City Studio aims to create a space where fans of artists and films can gather.
The studio has held three openings so far. At the most recent one, in March 2025, visitors lined up as early as 6 a.m. before the gates opened. The event drew a record 4,700 people, making it the largest turnout to date.
The fourth public opening will take place on Sunday, November 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, no reservation is required, and anyone can join.
