Japan’s Defense Minister Nakatani Gen has thanked Jordan for helping to evacuate Japanese nationals at a time of escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Nakatani visited Jordan on Thursday on the final leg of his trip to Africa and the Middle East. He held talks for about 30 minutes with Jordanian Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Jafar Hassan.
Jordan has provided a staging area for Japan’s Self-Defense Force personnel and aircraft when they evacuated Japanese nationals from neighboring Israel and other locations.
Nakatani thanked Jordan for its cooperation and praised its significant role in working to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.
Hassan responded that he appreciates the deepening relations between the two countries and hopes to see the further development of bilateral ties.
The ministers agreed to promote defense cooperation and exchanges, and confirmed that their defense authorities will maintain close communication.
