The Perfect Day Trip from Tokyo in the Summer
noshima is the perfect day trip from Tokyo in the summer. The island is located about 1h from Shinjuku. It can easily be combined with a visit to Kamakura. Both are conveniently connected by Enoden Line. But you can also spend a whole day on Enoshima.
Here’s are list of 8 things to do:
1. Explore Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamise Dori (Shopping Street)
2. Get lunch at one of the restaurants (or kakigori) & do some shopping
3. Visit Enoshima Shrine (with it’s different shrines, view points etc)
4. Walk through Samuel Cocking Garden
5. Climb up the Sea Candle (view point)
6. Take a break at one of the cafes (or try the street food)
7. Take a walk along the shore / beach and watch the sunset
8. Check out one of Enoshimas Caves (Iwaya Cave)
Apart from the main shopping streets, Enoshima has lots of small alleyways, many view points, hidden shrines and temples and more.
Because it is a small island, it has a very unique feel to it, compared to most areas in Tokyo.
📌 Best time to visit: It is recommended to go either in spring (March–May) or autumn (October–November) to enjoy clearer skies, and fewer crowds. We went in July, but it didn’t feel that crowded to me. The wind on the island, as well as the shadowy streets, helped a lot with the heat.
