3 Different Ways to Have Breakfast in Tokyo (You’ve Gotta Try #2!)

Start your morning in Tokyo the tasty way! In this video, Shizuka will take you to three very different breakfast spots – from the sweet, savory, to the global one. While most restaurants in Tokyo open around noon, these spots are the exceptional, perfect answer to start your day.

*Fun fact: Breakfast in Japan is often savory, not sweet.* So that’s what we are starting with here – an onigiri shop right across the Meguro River Park with unique selections of rice ball fillings served with miso soup on the side, just the perfect Japanese way. Followed by various bread selections from a local bakery AND a cafe serving breakfast from around the world! 🌏

So, whether you are an early riser or just arrived in Tokyo and feeling jet-lagged, better to take note of these three ideas for next time you’re visiting Tokyo.

  1. Thanks for tuning in! Now tell us, what is your favorite go-to breakfast when you're in Japan? ☀

  2. Professional wrestler Will Ospreay for AEW who once wrestled for NJPW (New Japan) said he could never find "breakfast" and everything opened at 11 am. 🤷‍♂️

  3. Haha! We had breakfast twice at Little Bakery At 3-chome, at the end of June as it was close to out air B&B 😉 Excellent fresh baked goods and coffee 🙂 -even in the morning was too hot to eat outside that time of year

  4. I'm going to have to find that Taste The World restaurant when I go back to Japan in September. That looks unique.

  5. more episodes dedicated to japan's confectionary and bakery scene, please!! omg the last location's menu seemed super interesting and delicious, love the variety on one plate!

  6. Come to my country, and you definitely get to eat a lot of red bean filling buns. Be it the bake or the steam one.

  7. On a different tangent: Ended up on a last minute, in the morning, Domestic Indian airflight.. The Indian Breakfast served was excellent❣️ Though I do admit more than a little trepidation before being served.

  8. Yoshinoya or Sukiya’s breakfast plate is also our culture for salary-men.
BTW, Shizuka san is adorable 😍

  9. Wow Shizuka, your presentation and personality are outstanding and really cast the cuisine of Japan in an undeniably positive light. Trying various dishes and broadcasting their quality for the world to see is representing the undiscovered potential of our beloved Nihon. Did you dump Frank yet? I particularly enjoyed the episode where you highlight the Okonamiyaki in Osaka, a deceptively charming city of wonder and delight. Keep up the amazing work and warm personality, Arigatoo!

  10. 12:00: as a Belgian, these Mini butter crisps (the left ones) are DELICIOUS! The right ones are yummy too, but the left ones just hit harder 😀

  11. Two places I have enjoyed breakfast (not that exciting) were The Rail Cafe(in Tokyo Station) and Excelsior Cafe (it's a chain).

  12. "Sorry Mr. Turtle, I'm going to eat you now". Somewhat psychopathic laugh… You ok Shizuka?!!!

  13. So I'd heard about the Studio Ghibli films but they came out a bit after I was a child, and I never had any kids of my own to watch such movies with so hadn't seen any. On a whim, after seeing your Totoro cake, I checked out My Neighbour Totoro. It's a lot of fun. I might watch Howl's Moving Castle next.

  14. How is the Japanese bakery scene? I've never been to Japan but my closest would be Korean bakery. Unfortunately while it is novel, I find it too sweet to have long term unlike back in England.

That Georgian breakfast looked amazing by the way. Breakfasts around the world are fascinating, she's onto something.

  15. Hello from Georgia, food looked really good and I think taste would be good as well. 💕

  16. Damn foreigners eating all the rice, yet again. Aaaaarrrgghhhhh! FOREIGNAAAAAAAA! YOU WILL NEVER BE SAMURAI!
