President Lee Jae-myung, who is about to visit Japan for the first time since taking office, said in an interview with Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun reported on the 21st that he was “bright, calm, and industrious” about the Japanese impression.

“There were times when I had a bad impression of Japan,” President Lee said. “When I visited Japan as a lawyer, I saw people’s bright expressions, humble attitudes, simple and industrious attitudes, and beautiful nature, and my existing image changed the opposite way.”

President Lee said he has visited Japan several times on a trip, but this is his first visit to downtown Tokyo. The Korea-Japan summit will be held in Tokyo on Sunday.

In an interview, President Lee also introduced reading “Great Manga,” a historical novel about Tokugawa Ieyasu, who opened “Edo (now Tokyo) Bakuhu (military government)” after reunifying the Japanese Warring States era. He said, “After the chaos of the Warring States era, the understanding of Japan has increased by reading the contents of long peace.”

“I respect Tokugawa Ieyasu’s patience,” he said. “There are many things that can be used as lessons in the world of politics.”

Tokugawa Ieyasu was a person who effectively unified Japan’s entire country in 1603 and opened the military government in Edo, Bakuhu (Shogunate). Compared to Nobunaga Oda and Hideyoshi Toyotomi, who are considered one of the three major figures of the Warring States era along with themselves, they are considered to be patient.

There is also a Senryu (Jeongjeongsi) from the Edo period, which shows the personalities of the three people. It is about killing Oda, who has a short temper and a short temper when the two dogs are not crying, Toyotomi, who is witty, “making them cry,” and Ieyasu, who is relaxed and cautious, “wait until they cry.”
