This may sound crazy spoken by a Japanese, but Okinawa should be their own country. I'm not being separatist, hear me out. Their culture and language are way too different compared to Japan as a whole. Mainland Japan and Okinawa has many things in common, of course, that much is clear. But they feel more like a neighbouring country than a different prefecture.
That said, I will respect them if they want to stay one with Japan, it's 100% our pleasure to have them as our kin. However, I also will support them if they're going for independence.
