Japan: A US Naval ship named New Orleans caught fire off southern Japan’s Okinawa prefecture on Wednesday, public broadcaster NHK reported.

There have been no reports of injuries, and vessels from Japan’s Self-Defence Forces are fighting the fire, NHK said.

No oil leaks had been observed in the nearby waters, said the Japan Coast Guard, as per Reuters.

The JCG also said one of its ships near the US vessel was also preparing to join the effort to bring the blaze under control.
