    Excited to see your Tokyo video as we are traveling from the US in mid September and are staying in a hotel in the Shinjuku area.
    Loved how genuinely thrilled and appreciative you both were when watching the trains at Kyoto station or riding in the train and taxi.

    The dolphin nose of Shinkansen is to reduce the tunnel boom as it enters and exits tunnels at high speed (the shock wave can damage the tunnel entrance)

    6:07 Unreserved on the Shinkansen means the seats are not reserved (first come basis), doesn’t necessarily mean standing. The frequency of the Tokaido & Sanyo Lines Shinkansen is high so you will almost never go standing in the unreserved compartment.

    Having long nose also helps in reducing noise once the train enters the tunnel. Earlier trains didn't have those thus making lot of noises when entering/leaving the tunnel which used to hamper nearby residency.
