A fire broke out on a U.S. Navy vessel off the coast of Okinawa on Wednesday evening, prompting firefighting efforts by Japanese forces, according to local media.
No injuries have been reported, said the report by Japanese broadcaster NHK, which cited officials from the country’s coast guard.
The report said the coast guard received a call around 5 p.m. that there was a blaze aboard the USS New Orleans, an amphibious transport dock, near White Beach Naval Facility.
The ship is homeported at Sasebo Naval Base, Japan.
