What’s Inside a Japanese Subway Station’s Hidden Food Paradise?
I love the energy of the people
here. Listen to this guy. Vanessa’s on the hunt. Want to eat
that. See that salmon? Fresh fish. Look at how awesome that is. Huh?
The people here in Japan are great, man. They are some friendly, super nice,
very helpful people. Imagine the barbecues we’d have if we lived here. Huh? Oh
my gosh. This is a winner. approved. Yeah, the people here are so awesome. Did I
tell you we’re at the subway station? This isn’t Whole Foods. This isn’t some fancy
place. We’re at the Hansen Market at the Subway station. Oh my gosh, Japan’s
so cool. You can’t tell me that Japan doesn’t have the coolest train stations in
the world, guys, cuz this is something else. All right, travelers. We are in Osaka and we are
heading to Dottenberry and we are taking the subway. As you can see here, we’re going to be
taking the Mline. So, let’s get down into the subway. And if you never ridden the subway in
Osaka, let me tell you, it is something to be seen. Not only the train, the train is not the
big deal. The big deal is the station. Wait till you see everything in this place. There’s
a major grocery store. There’s all kinds of restaurants. There’s shops. There’s anything you
could want. There’s even a medical clinic in here. This place is awesome. Turn around and check it
out. Look at all the people. And for reference, guys, this is a Saturday afternoon.
It’s noon right now, but take a look. Check this out, guys. This is the Hansshin
grocery store. And again, we’re in the subway uh subway station, but take a look at this
grocery store and everything it has to offer. You got a bakery right here to the right. And then
full lunch bar. Let’s walk out with the perimeter of this thing so you guys can see everything.
We were here the other day and we were saying we could come here and have a full meal. Look at
there’s the sandwiches. Look at these sandwiches, guys. They’re like cream cheese and
fruit. And then over here they have all kinds of foods. You guys tell me where
in the world you’re watching from. And if you have a Subway system like this. Look
at how delicious all this looks. Yummy. And yeah, look over here. Sushi for days. Look at all these different options here.
This is something my mom would love. It’s like a seafood pancake. Oh, guoza. Yummy,
yum, yum. So that’s about I think things range here between 500 to 800 yen which
is between4 to $6. Yeah. It’s not bad, guys. Yeah. And it all is fresh. Yeah. Look at
the quality. Yeah. Delicious. And another tip is if you’re coming to Japan, make sure that
you have a little side bag for your trash. They don’t have trash bins everywhere. You
have to kind of store it with you and then when you find a trash bin, you throw all your
trash from the day away. But look at this. Oo, look at those. Look at that, you guys. I don’t even eat seafood and this stuff looks
yummy. This is all the salads. Yeah. Look at this. You can come home from work on the subway and
have everything that you need before you get to your house for the next day, for that night, for
the next week. There’s food here for everything. Yeah. Your meats, carved meats, and we’re going
to get you guys to the seafood. You’re going to see some fresh fresh fish and tuna. If you’re
a seafood lover, this is a place for you. They even have their own meat section back here.
You get meats, fish, seafood. Look at here. Check that out, you guys. Want to eat that. See that
salmon? that right there. Right. Look at the freshness and
the quality of the fish here. Octopus. What do you think, love? So good. I kind of want
to eat something now, right? Look at that. Wonder if I could buy something and go somewhere and eat
it. Of course. Get something. You got live cotch right there. Sashimi. Look at those tiger
prawns. Something deliciousness. Yeah. Sunfish. Vanessa is on the hunt. See the octopus, baby.
Yeah, that looks delicious right here. Okay, I’m buying something. I just need to figure out
what I want to buy cuz it all looks really good. We’ve been down here a couple times. We just
haven’t filmed it, but uh we’ve said we’re going to bring you guys back with us so you could check
this out. Again, we’re at the Osaka station and this station again has anything and everything
you could want. Look at the tuna right here. There’s your tuna next, baby. Yeah. Fresh
fish. Look at how awesome that is. Huh? And then when you’re done getting your meats,
you come over here and you get delicious fresh veggies to accompany your meal. And let
me tell you something, the mushrooms here, the way they prepare the mushrooms, they
just put it on a grill, a little bit of oil, some salt and pepper, and it is unbelievable.
And look at the size of these crabs, you guys. Look at that. Wow. More tuna. Big shrimp. Little shrimp, gray shrimp, light
shrimp, chopped up squid, and then here you got honey and lemon. M. This looks good, huh, love? A
lemon honey combo, lemonade. They put juice in a bag. Last night, we bought this orange juice. I’ll
show you guys when we get back to the hotel room. This orange juice came in a little plastic bag
like this and it was absolutely delicious. And then over here you got your refrigerated goods.
Milks, cheeses, noodles, butter, yogurt, a whole spice rack. I can’t stress this enough, guys.
We’re at the subway station. I know this isn’t a grocery store that anybody has to drive to. You
take the subway, you get here. What do you think, baby? This is so delicious. See these? Look.
All leaves. You got your octopus. And look at the price, guys. That’s like $10 for this, right?
Uh $7? No. Oh, $1,000. Yeah. $7. How much do you think this would cost you in the United States
for fresh sashimi like this? $30? $40? Well, look at this guy right here. Yeah. This is 4,000
yen. So that’s about 28 USD. I can tell you the Japanese restaurant that we go to in the US,
this will easily cost us over 100 bucks just for a little spread like that. So $28 and it doesn’t
get any fresher than you’re going to find here, unless you took it yourself right out of the
ocean. My mom would love this right here. So good. Ooh, crabs. I love the energy
of the people here. Listen to this guy. The people here in Japan are great, man.
They are some friendly, super nice, very helpful people. What are you thinking, love? You
know, the hardest part is just deciding. I mean, everything looks so good. 6,000 yen. That’s
like $42. But look at how much you get. This whole thing right there. Vanessa’s busting
out the Google Translate. That’s one thing. Even though we don’t speak the language, we
don’t read Japanese, Google Translate. Watch this. I’ll do it on my phone because
Vanessa has a privacy screen on hers, but it makes life so easy. You just
go right here, go down to translate, and then Google Lens. Watch this, you guys.
Click on that. You want to know what it is? It tells you right there. It’s eel filled.
So that’s what that is. That’s filled eel. What do you find over there, love? This
is blue fin fatty tuna. Oo. Four pieces. $16.98. So about $10. That’s
really good actually for blue fin. Oh, I’m so excited for this. Yeah. And we’re
going to watch Vanessa eat this and tell you guys how it is. Look at that. They give
you the chopsticks and some soy sauce. We’re going to show you guys the rest
of the store here just so you can see. They got cheeses right here. Check this out.
They got a full liquor area. And Vanessa, oh, they have her cheese. She has one favorite
cheese that is hard to find at home, but we seem to find it in Asia quite a bit.
The Philippines was the last place we found it, huh, baby? Oh my gosh. You have
no idea how happy I am if this is really it. Let’s see if it’s her
cheese. Doing the Google Translate. Yeah, it is. All right. Get some. This one, man. So 1,836. It’s on sale. Oh, yeah.
on sale. Look at that. $1,836 yen. So, $15 for that big monkey. It looks like there’s like a second floor to this.
So, let’s just Let’s finish the first floor. Yeah. We’ll finish the first floor and then we’re going
to head up show you guys what’s on the second floor. We haven’t even been up there yet either,
so it’s going to be a surprise for us, too. Cheese is one of Vanessa’s favorite things, especially
it’s this cheese right here. Nimlet. Nimlet. Let’s keep exploring, guys.
You got a whole wine section. And that’s one thing that we’ve noticed here. The Japanese at any meal, they
love their beer, sake, wine. Look at bento boxes. Right. Is that a bento box?
I believe so. Yeah. Yeah. Comment below and let us know what your favorite thing would be here that
you’ve seen in this grocery store. These are what I’ve been eating quite a bit here are these little
skewers. Ooh. Yeah. Chicken skewers. Get some. We’ll take them to the room. We could go back to
the room before we go. Yeah. Unfortunately for us, our hotel is right across the street. Okinawa.
Oh, yeah. Okay. Wagu. Yeah. Wagu. Au. Au. Au. Au. Okay. Hagu. Yes. How much? 1,0001. All right.
Finally, we’re getting some good food here. We’ve We’ve been uh just eating where we can because the
restaurants here get really full. Harato. Harato. All right, love. Tell me, what do you think of
this place? Oh my gosh. Like, I could just eat here instead of going to a restaurant, right?
And it’s probably fresher. It’s fresh and the quality is amazing. And the prices. Yeah, the
prices are out of this world. Like everything that you could possibly want, guys. I’m a picky
eater. I mean, I’m not a picky eater. There’s just things I don’t like. Like seafood and fried
things. And look around. It’s all seafood and fried things. But we’re going to find some beef
or chicken. And I will be satisfied. Just got to hunt. Cool. See that? You can even get fresh
coffee beans here and they’ll grind it for you. Teas. Look at all these tees, baby. Oh, that’s
cool. Yeah. And the best part, look at these. All desserts and jellies. I had some of those
jellies the other day and they are delicious. But right now, I need to eat. The other thing about
Japanese food, guys, is the presentation. Yeah, right. Everything presented is artwork like that.
It is like look look at this. Just beautiful. Like look at here. Look at these jellies, you
guys. How they just look like like a piece of art. Did I tell you we’re at the subway
station? We’re at the subway station. This isn’t Whole Foods. This isn’t some fancy place.
We’re at the Hansenshin Market at the subway station. There’s a lot of very good sweets
here. And the people line up. Look at here. Watch this, guys. Oh, that’s the red
bean pastry. Yeah. Check this out. So, what they do is they start out like this
and then they end up like that and then they go over there and you get to eat it. Check
out the fresh fruits. That’s my favorite section. Look at these cherries. How red
they look. We still need to get Japanese strawberries. And these mangoes, guys. How
good do these mangoes look? Look at that. I’ve been told that the Japanese strawberries
are some of the best in the world and we’re going to try. Thank you. Okay, let’s go around
that way. I’m not sure what these are. Let us know. Or actually here, let’s do a little
Google Translate in real time for you guys. What do we got? What do we got? Greenhouse Mogi
Loquat. Hm. So, I wonder if that’s some kind of kumquat. All right, finally, guys. I’ve been
on the hunt for fresh juice. Bonichiwa, can I please have a fruits mix? Yeah. So, 450, guys.
We’re going to get a fruit mix and they just make it all right there fresh for you. Ariato, thank
you. Okay, let’s give this a try. See how it is. This is really good, baby. Try it. Fruit mix.
Yeah. You taste the banana, the pineapple, orange, right? Wow. Wagu beef is huge here. All right,
you guys. So, we’re going to try this lowquat. pack of six over there was like 42 bucks, but
we found them individually for just under $7. If you’ve had a lowquat, tell us what you think.
We’ve never had one. We’re going to try it. Is this yummy? Good. Good. Yummy. Yummy. Yeah. Okay.
This is the recommended fruit. Recommended fruit. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Do you uh peel it?
Yes. Yes. Okay. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. How do you have Everybody’s so friendly here, you guys.
So, we got our fruit and we got instructions on how to eat it and we were told it’s yummy and
it’s a recommended fruit of the season. So, let’s make our way upstairs. Right there’s
the escalator and we will check this out. Oh, but real quick, guys, let’s show you this meat
counter so you can see what this is all about. Look at this. They got the sections of the
cow here. And then look at all of this, man. Imagine the barbecues we’d have if we lived here,
huh? Oh my gosh. Like, I would love to just next time get an Airbnb. Yeah. And just cook, right?
seeing the quality of we buy all Japanese stuff, seasonings and everything and then just make
it ourselves. All right, let’s make our way upstairs. We are exploring parts unknown. Let’s
go see you guys. And notice on the escalator here, everybody on the right, so the people that want
to walk up quickly have a clear passageway here on the left. Pretty awesome. Is that bub? Oh, you
know what? This is where we were this morning. Oh, yeah. Okay. So, this is like a little baker
area. We’ve been We have been up here. It’s not much different than downstairs.
Well, we haven’t been upstairs. So, let’s see what is up here on the second floor.
So, theoretically, we were down. It’s like BF, which is a basement floor. Just came from 1F
and now we’re making our way up to 2F. Oh, let me get out of the way and let’s see what we find
up here. This is like a shopping area now, you guys. It’s like a mall. Check this out. We went
from delicious food to high-end jewelry. Check. Wow. You want to keep going up just to see what’s
there? Yeah. Let’s just walk here. Show everybody what they got. Oh, there’s umbrellas. It’s raining
today in Osaka. It’s going to be raining probably for the rest of our time in Tokyo. Yeah. So,
we need to get ourselves an umbrella and get a a compact one. Yeah. Look at this guy’s
making hats by hand. Wow. How cool is that? Wow. It’s beautiful, right? What a beautiful
view. Yeah. Look at this. Yeah. Again, check out the view. So, we’re at Osaka Station. And across the street is a continuation of Osaka
Station right there. This place is huge. And there you see the trains running in the background.
Beautiful city, right? Very beautiful city. Oh my goodness. This thing goes all the way to nine
floors. Look, check this out, guys. Right now, we’re on two. You still have four, five, 6, 7,
8, nine. You want to take the elevator to the ninth one cuz there’s restaurants and a food hall
there. All right, you guys. So, the elevator was way too crowded for the ninth floor. But here we
come on the escalator making our way up to the ninth floor. And wait till you see when they
say like food court or food areas. This is a bunch of little restaurants that are going to be
full of people. Check this out, man. Can you get a babe? I’m going to try to find us a table.
Okay, cuz they’re filling up fast. All right, let’s let this adventure begin. We’re looking
for food. Let’s see what we find. Here’s French food. I’m not a big French food kind of
guy, but here’s steak. Check this out. Skewers on the menu from 5:00 p.m.
That’s option one. But let’s keep looking. I have a feeling we’re going to
go back to that steak place to be honest. And if you notice, guys, when places get
full, they put out seats for people to sit and go in. So, watch here as we walk by and
look at all these people. They’re waiting to get into this restaurant or to that restaurant
right there. All these people. I just sit and wait patiently. It’s pretty cool. Yeah, I think
we are going to go back to that steak place, but I got to use my phone and translate just to
make sure it’s something I’ll like. And if not, I had my juice. It’ll hold me over till we get
somewhere else and we’ll just watch Vanessa eat. I don’t know, guys. We’re going to take a chance
here and just hope for the best. Wish me luck. All right, so I think I got something that I could
eat. We’re going to go with a skirt steak rice box right here. Hopefully it’s good, guys. Wish me
luck. Yeah. So, one big skirt steak rice box and uh ginger ale, please. So there you
guys see it came out to 3,530 yenichi. Okay. I was saying like I kept saying hello.
Hello. I meant to say thank you. Learning, guys. I’m learning. All right. Let’s get back to
Vanessa. All right. Love. What are you getting into? I am getting into Oh, look, guys. How cute
this is. It’s a little soy sauce thing. Wow. Uh, I’m getting the stuff or getting into the
stuff that I ate from downstairs or bought from downstairs. This is supposedly from Okinawa. It’s
Uruma Abu pork guoza. And then I have also my blue fin which is very very hard to find. I don’t even
think you can find it or very limited in the US. Oo, ice pack. Usually the blue fin tuna from what
I’ve heard, uh, oftent times the Japanese purchase it. And so this is definitely a treat. But if
you want to take a quick peek at what I have, my little spread here. All right, first
blue fin tuna in Japan. and crazy to see that this is from a market again as Tony had said
previously from a train station. Who knew? I mean, it’s great quality. Uh, highly recommend stopping
by Henshin Henshin Market and give it a shot. Oh, best you’ve had here in Japan. Mhm. too from
a market. Wow. It’s like butter. So delicious. I should have bought two of these things. Yeah.
The good thing about the market is they make the stuff fresh daily. You saw how many people were
down there. So, this stuff is getting bought and remade. Bought and remade. So, you’re going to get
freshness like you’re not going to find a lot of places. Mhm. So, when in Japan, definitely eat the
food, but don’t shy away from the restaurants and the markets that you find as you’re exploring
the train stations because let me tell you, I have to say, one of my favorite things so
far about Japan are the secrets within the train station. So, check it out. I’m going to
keep eating. All right, now we’re just waiting for my food. As soon as we get it, it’ll be my
turn to give a review. I’ll see you guys soon. All right, got my food, you guys. And check this
out. Got a fork for kids, but I grabbed it anyway. So, let’s eat. What do we got here? Something
for Vanessa. Got my ginger ale. They give So, they don’t use napkins here in Japan. They
use wet rags or wet naps everywhere you go. And look at this. Skirt steak with rice. Looks
very good. Let’s see how it tastes. All right, let’s give this a shot. M. That is really
good. Really good. The meat is tender. The rice is just good rice with the sauce from
this meat on top. Guys, this is a winner. approved. All right, guys. We are done with
our meal. We’ve been in Japan now for 5 days, and that was the best meal that both
of us have had. Vanessa’s came from the handshin market. Mine came from the
food court. Baby, what’s your review? Oh, man. Blue fin tuna. Delicious, right? What a
great dining experience. And the cool thing is most of these places stay open till about
11:00 at night. I’m not sure about here, but these food places we found, they tend to stay
open till 11:00. What is this? Wa! Look at this, you guys. Wow. Let’s check this out. Oh, cranberry
juice. Yeah. Get some. Right. Look at Yeah. Or no, it’s acola. That’s a um They have this in Puerto
Rico. It’s like a little plum. It’s really good. Hello. Uh, let’s get a juice one. You uh sell it
to go in a cup. Oh, right there. Is this acidola? One. Yeah, please. All right, guys. We’re going
to try acidola juice. I used to love this stuff as a kid in Puerto Rico. And let me show you
what it is. It’s just this little plum. And we used to pick these off the trees and then man,
you just eat them. My mouth is watering thinking about those days. But check out all around here.
This is the eighth floor. And just look for days it goes on. Just food and food and food. Come
to the Osaka station, baby. Give it a shot. Ooh, that’s different. Yummy. All right, let’s try
this. M. M. That’s refreshing. Yeah. The taste, you guys, it’s hard to describe because it’s
something like you’ve never had before unless you’ve had it. To me, that little burnt brown
on the bottom just says this is going to be good. Signifies goodness, right? It’s like an
indoor night market. It is, huh? Yep. Yeah, we were saying we love the night markets in
Taipei and it looks like we’ve stumbled upon an indoor night market, which is super convenient
because today it’s pouring rain outside. Blue Seal ice cream. Isn’t that a big brand? Like an
international brand. I don’t know, but they got ube ice cream. Yeah, look at the flavors. Okanella
salt cookies. I may have to get one. Yeah, Vanessa’s contemplating. Oh, wow. Is this like
a lemon honey drink? M. Is that lemon honey? No. Herbal teas to improve sleep quality. Oh,
okay. A sample. Yeah. Yeah, please. All right, let’s sample this. Here you go. Oh, okay.
From the root of that plant. Okay. Ooh. Okay. Now, we’re going to try the other flavor.
All right. From the top of the plant. Okay. Wow. It’s like a nutty. Yeah. I like
it. Yeah. Yeah. Very, very good. Yeah. This one. Oh. All right. The people here are so awesome.
This tastes good. Hot as well. Yeah. Okay. Okay. All right. That looks like clothing
over there. Some gifts. Handmade goods. Oh, I know. I saw a sign and it said like this is
a lot of the stuff is from Okinawa which Yeah. So it’s kind of like a little they brought them
in. Yeah. So check that out guys. This is like all stuff from Okinawa that they brought in to
here to Osaka. And look at those guitars. Huh. I know it’s not called a guitar, but it has strings
and we’ll just say musical instruments. Yeah. So, we found an indoor Okinawa market. Whoa,
look at this. What is it? This is for ramen, you guys. This is a line here to get ramen at
this place. Pineapple. Oo. I wonder if it’s like a pineapple. You want to try a sample?
Yeah. Vanessa’s going to get herself a sample here. Go ahead, my love. Give it a shot.
Thank you. Ooh. Okay. So this is this thing. Oh. Wow. All right. So we’re getting this right here.
Pineapple chocolate chinsuku from Okinawa. All right. So that’s the uh eighth floor. And
if you look over there, there’s more shopping. Just regular shopping, but the market
side is right here. What a treat. Yeah, we were literally just coming to the train station
to give you guys a quick tour of the grocery store and jump on a train to go to Dottenberry, but it
turned in to this magical food fiesta. All right, you guys. So, we have made our way out of the
Hansshin Market, and it’s probably about an hour and a half later. No joke. That’s how big
the place is and how much stuff there is to do there. Now we are back in the subway station.
Look, there’s the store we were in. And now we’re in the subway station and we’re making
our way to the hotel cuz we got so much stuff that we’re just going to walk back to the hotel,
drop it off, and then carry on to doberry. And you guys are coming with us for that, too. But
check out just all the human traffic here in uh the subway station at Osaka station. One
really cool thing you guys about the stations here and just the streets in general is look at
the floor and you see the yellow. That yellow stripe goes all the way around the whole city
sidewalks through the train station and it’s for the blind. And so if you’re a blind person, you
just use your walking stick, tap it along that, and it’ll get you safely to where you’re
going. And look at this. Now we’re like in a would be the equivalent to a Walgreens
again in the subway station. Look at this. You can’t tell me that Japan doesn’t have
the coolest train stations in the world, guys, cuz this is something else. Mhm. I’m just
trying to find an umbrella. Yeah, it is raining outside. So, we’re on the hunt for an umbrella.
Let’s see if we could find one in here. So, there you guys saw the little market here at the
train station. And another thing you see there, how it says tax-free shop. So, if
you carry your passport with you, they won’t charge you tax. Uh they just write down
your your passport information and it’s taxree, literally. And they’re all over. There’s a whole
bunch of stores here in Osaka that are all taxree. that. So, we’re coming out of the train station
and the surprises just keep on coming. We hear this music. We don’t know what it is, but
let’s go find out. Wow, look at that, guys. All right, let’s keep going
back to the hotel. What a treat, huh? Anywhere you go here, there’s
always something special happening. All right, guys. We are walking now. This is the
basement floor. Basement floor of the Tracy. So, we were on the ninth floor. That’s where we ate. But look at if you come down to the
basement floor, this is what you find is more restaurants.

Yeah, this is what Japan was missing … and old white guy with an asian woman from a poor colonized country, recording people without consent and throwing basic Japanese etiquette in the garbage. Why are you recording people without consent?
